The Beef Burger with the Lot is a uniquely Australian take on the classic burger. Beetroot, which became popular in Australian burgers in the mid-20th century, is a distinctive element that sets it apart from burgers in other parts of the world.
The term "with the lot" indicates that the burger includes various toppings. While variations exist, traditional toppings often include lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon, pineapple, beetroot, and a fried egg.
This burger is a beloved staple in Australian cuisine, found in many cafes, pubs, and takeaway shops nationwide. It is celebrated for its hearty and flavourful combination of ingredients.

The basic Oz burger is rissole, lettuce, tomato, onion (raw or fried), beetroot and tomato sauce. Grilled cheese, pineapple, egg etc are all extras (aka 'the Lot'). McDonalds imperialism, and its spongy rolls, American processed cheese and pickles, threatened to plunge the Oz burger into oblivion, but it's held firm at millions of backyard BBQs.

Thankyou Rick. Our local country store does the best burgers with the lot. Yes...the lot!...... so delicious, filling and nutritious. Macdonalds can't compete!! The buns are bigger and though not as high as yours, impossible to eat without making a mess🤣 We live in Victoria. In Regional NSW they are also filled with bean sprouts and there are vegetarian options with tofu and tempe burgers....all sooo good.

Hi rick, that budget is a total NO aussie burgers are not that time consuming the burger bacon and onion and egg cook on a grill not a ridge pan the buns are toasted lettuce finely sliced on bottom with tomato beetroot then cheese on burger in the pan the onion and bacon pineapple is browned while putting your burger on salad add pineapple tomato sauce then the lid and yes squish . The reason for salad on the bottom is some blokes don't eat salad, always interesting when they tern upside remove the bun flick salad off bun back on then eat. I enjoy your food and some english recipes are awesome for family friendly meals without the fuss . All the best from Australia

Not bad, Rick, though a couple of things to keep in mind are thinner sliced tomato and bacon. And fry the onion. It’s not usually as tall as your beauty! Thanks for giving our Aussie burger a go! 🍔

An Australian here. Well done Chef. We tend to use rolls that have about 2+ times the realestate. I prefer my eggs over hard (not runny), I will. Have to try some mayo on some. Beetroot definitely makes the burger better. We also caramelise our onions as well. I guess there is no right or wrong way of doing them, just different ways.

I will tell you a little story about my first encounter with the great Aussie burger, I arrived in Aus in 1972 in June, and walking along Hunter St in Newcastle we went into a burger bar and asked for a burger. The assistant asked if we wanted plain or withtheworks, and we said we wanted the plain one. As we stood there watching her assembling our burgers we noticed she was putting lettuce, tomato, cucumber , onion and beetroot on them so I called to her that we asked for the plain one. She shot back at me in some attitude and said "This IS plain", and thats what a plain burger here is. When we said plain, we meant like in Wimpy Bar in UK which just had the meat and onion on it !!! It was an eye opener for us....

I grew up big and strong on those things lol. We used to call them Works Burgers, where I grew up. You would walk in, say "One with the works, thanks mate" and something extremely similar would arrive in your hot little hands lol. Then, the trick was to find a quiet little spot where you would unwrap the Burger, lay the paper down as a catch-all, and just let the mayhem unfold forthwith lol Would you believe that back then, they even came with a very thin piece of unchewable steak as well lol. At least they did where I grew up. My method was to always rip out the steak and eat that first separately. At least that gave the Burger a chance of some vague form of stabilisation lol :) It's so good to still see them still survive around the traps :)

Rik, you had a pretty damned good go at the 'Aussie' burger; well done mate. A couple of things though, for a true Aussie burger you need a bigger bun, flatten out the meat, thinner tomato and onion and cook it all up except for the tomato and lettuce. Add a bit of mustard instead of the mayo. I used to cook them commercially mate but you did have a good go. :)

We are deciding how we will start something else cooking together. I can assure you there are no gimmicky menus on this channel. All the Thai dishes are exactly how we cook them at home. They are real Thai, and If you make them as is, your Thai cooking will be on another level. Above of all the tosh channels trying to cling to Thai family ties. There are some big channels chucking out rubbish, and folks have no idea. I wont pull the wool over anyone eyes, and my wife is a qualified chef I helped her when she was training. When I say helped, we cooked together at home. She then completed everything herself with the exams. I'm proud of her - she is amazing, and has helped me understand real Thai cooking. Thank you. Best, Rik

@@BackyardChef I was very honoured to get some tips from a lovely Thai chef called ' Patria weerapan' ' some years ago . She won best Thai in the UK . Based in Teddington Middlesex. Sadly now closed it was a very small intimate place but the food was truly incredible... She made it like you were guests coming to her place for dinner rather than the usual churned out tosh.. Soh ? , reminds me of her quite a lot . Many blessings .🙏

Looks interesting, although I haven't had anything that big since I was in my 20s whis a long time ago. We would call that the kitchen sink sandwich. Our big burger is 3 patties of beef, pepper jack cheese, good pickles although they can be on the side. I put horse radish on or a horse radish mustard. Hate fast food burgers. Had to many when I was young and to busy to make my own. Second favorite is a chile cheese burger.

You really bigged up our lovely Aussie burgers Rik, yours I would call gourmet because you have used your homemade bacon, which looks awesome, however, here in Aussieland we cook our onions and we cut the tomatoes, bacon and pineapple thin so that the end result is less gigantic. Better than most in oz, sensational effort. For obvious reasons most slice toppings thinner and press patty thinner (admittedly different if doing it from frozen unless thin when pressed). Maccas used to do an Aussie but has since dropped it from the menu.

Never knew Aussies had a Beet, Pineapple Egg burger! Sounds weird at first but Pickled Beets would be good instead of Dill Pickles. Now you just need a little Sriracha on that to give it a kick, it works great with pickles so probably beets, too! With a salad you have all the food groups there!

You are right, these are the best burgers on the planet, served up with a a side order of potato scallops and a milkshake, , heaven. I watched thousands of these cooked in my lifetime, Onions are always cooked and no mayo, not in my time. Also a burger with the lot does not include pineapple. The correct order for this is Burger with the lot plus pine.

Wider thinner slices of everything, reduces the "tower" effect yours had. One thin slice of bacon One slice of cheese Pineapple optional.( Not for me) Onions cooked.(I prefer without onions) Egg usually cooked in egg ring, yoke poked when cooking to stop running. You got the key ingredient. Look up Andrew's Hamburgers in Albert Park - been making them for decades. Not a bad effort for a Pom.

My goodness Rik,that was interesting I had never heard of this Australian dish, learn something new every day.I like my hamburgers a bit plainer, about 6-8 ounces of beef pan,or grill cooked to a nice pink middle, then a slice of cheese, and a dollop of ketchup,or if I’m going crazy then some nice onion, fried,or raw.Seriously though Rik about the beetroot is it pickled as we always had it in England when I was a child,or is it just cooked, which I first had in the States? thanks Rik😊
