My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. You’re going to love this one. I found a Stihl MS170 at the dump on the ground near the dumpster. Pulled it a few times to see it wasn’t seized, but wouldn’t start. Took it home. Watched this video and emptied the fuel(light blue). Put in my non-ethanol mix - it fired up on the second pull! Thank you very much! MD

@@spiritseeker2831 Find a nearby gas station that sells pure gasoline. Don’t use gasoline containing ethanol. Mix your own 2-stroke fuel and don’t rely on any of the premixed stuff from the big box stores. I can’t help to believe it’s got so much stabilizer - to make sure it lasts on the shelf, waiting to be purchased - that the stuff doesn’t burn correctly. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just my 2 cents…

@@FilosophicalPharmer My problem is that here in a major east coast metropolitan area, there are NO gas stations within a one hour drive [each way] that sell "pure" gasoline. I have tried several web sites which purport to tell me which local stations sell non-ethanol fuel, but when I go to those stations every pump has a sticker that says the fuel contains 10% ethanol, and when I ask about non-ethanol fuel the attendant looks at me like I'm crazy. So my options are limited to [1] mix my own fuel using ethanol-containing gasoline, or [2] buy the canned fuel. Since I typically use less than a gallon per year I've just been buying the canned fuel. It's a pain to mix less than one gallon, however I guess that's what I'm going to have to do from now on. I was a diesel mechanic for many years.. After I retired I went to work for a family dairy farm.. As the mechanic. The firm probably had at least thirty or forty different two stroke motors.. Running all kinds of small equipment. One thing the owner did a long time ago... Was to buy aviation gas... He thought it was well worth the money.. Just because of the problems you are describing.. I thought the machines ran better and faster.. Not many less Pull rope issues.. Of course you cannot run alcohol gas in airplane.

Seemed so easy. Guess it goes in the pickup with yearly leftover 2cycle. I’ve been using in trimmers to stop rotting fuel lines but have noticed a lack of top end cutting especially in brush. I mix Rec90 for boat and chainsaws because I’ve witnessed damage from 87 ethanol. One vacation replacing like new Mercury fuel tanks and lines. Pickup tube leaking and one off, primers rotted inside. Thanks for this.

Have you considered sending some samples of fuel from one of the machines that isn't running properly to one of those independent fuel / oil testing centers to see what's in it? it would be nice to know if it's something that's missing, not supposed to be there, external contamination, water absorption, etc. it would also show if the contents and additives that they claim are present are actually there.

@@jefismShe has worked on more of these today than you will in a lifetime. I put a new plug, fuel filter etc etc in my Echo leaf blower that has run perfectly for years. Emptied out the old box-store gas (about 3 months old) and put in new box-store gas. Would barely run. I finally emptied out the overpriced gas, put in REC90 with oil and voila... first pull

Sending samples of fuel would show if that specific fuel had an issue, but not the stuff sitting on the shelf waiting to be sold. Sending some sealed, fresh stuff would be better to see what is actually different, if anything.

Another fun definitive proof test would be to take an easy starting good running engine that is hitting peak rpms and put the garbage can fuel in it. A reverse example of good fuel vs. canned fuel if you will. This video is 100% spot on. I came to the same exact conclusions with this particular type of canned fuel years ago. Other than for storage purposes it has no purpose to me. Even then it’s too expensive to be economically practical. To be fair old stale 2-cycle mix that is very heavy in oil ratio will produce similar results of hard start, no start and low top rpms.This seems especially true with Stihl engines for whatever reasons. FYI …8 out 10 customers surveyed report low energy and a hard time starting their work day after drinking Coffee at that particular small engine repair shop.

Why bother with "canned fuel" ??! Just buy E-free gas aka: 'pure gas' without the damaging Ethanol/alcohol content. I'm here in FL and our WAWA stations carry it (Ethanol free gas) frequently promoted as 'Boat Fuel". Why is that? Remember going back to your 5th grade science class were you were (maybe?) taught that "Alcohol has an affinity for water". Translation: Water follows Alcohol and that is why the typical Marinas always offer Alcohol (Ethanol) Free Gas. It's a real problem for boats, since they ride on/near water... Alcohol is also a SOLVENT. It likes to wash away/dilute oil, especially the oil in your Fuel Mix! So, just use Ethanol free fuel with a good fuel mix and your mostly there for the LCO's (Lawn Care Operators). For the more casual user or for Winter set up, you should also add some fuel perservative like Stabil MARINE Grade (most economical and strongest) or Ethanol Shield for your new gas purchase (which no longer contains Ethanol)👍 . Search your area for other Ethanol free sites @ Pure-Gas.org

Never had issues with Aspen, these fuels have their place, like for storage. Always runs great, always starts easy. My dad had a trimmer with Aspen gas left in it for 4 years. Started on the 4th pull.

Used canned for years maintaining properties 1 day a week. Never had a problem. Once I started burning though them, switched back to mixing. Never would have guessed it was why backpack blower seemed to run better as it aged... Interesting... Thank you!

I'll back you up on this one Bre, 100%. I commented on a previous video of yours too concerning the canned pre-mix. I have been a certified OPE technician for 30 years, and I can't count the number of Stihl units that have come into my shop that won't even start with this crappy fuel in them. Get rid of the pink garbage (or whatever else they might be using in there), replace it with the good stuff and voila, vroom vroom, Bob's your uncle. Spot on! And if the manufacturer of the canned pre-mix doesn't like you criticizing their product, then I believe the onus is on THEM to make a better product!

I have used that stuff for years on several of my chain saws until they finally burned up I thought. Finally on my newest saw it quit working. I knew that it was not burned up. Then I remembered that you had mentioned on one of your videos about that junk. I went and bought a new 1 gallon gas can and 2 stroke oil and dumped out the other gas and refill it with the mix. Well like you said it started. I still had the other saws so I pulled them out of storage and they still had the old gas in them. I did have to buy a carburetor for one of them but they started. Listen to her. She knows what she is talking about. Thank you for helping us and telling the truth.

I use the pink stuff from the big box stores because it doesn’t have ethanol and I don’t use it frequently enough to avoid stale gas. It doesn’t appear to do any damage if you’re able to fix any issues by switching to oil/gas to fix any problems. It’s mostly a trade off for people like myself.

I mix my own fuel and I only run through maybe a gallon or two a year. I don't have any problems using pump gas with no stabilizer in a sealed can that sits in my garage.

I run tru fuel 50:1 never had an issue with any of my echo products. And run the 4 stroke in my mower,snow blower and gennys no problems. Its the only way to get non ethanol fuel by me. Pricey but no headaches for years.

Ive switched to using canned VP fuel over unleaded pump fuel because the ethanol in ohio is 15%. Before the switch the blower was experiencing a major bog. Now, my blower and trimmer start easy and run great. You wont have a problem running VP fuel. They literally make racing fuel used by major big name race teams from boats, cars, motorcyces and radio controlled nitro engines.

@@williamwallace9620 There IS a station near me that sells a non ethyl 90 octane, but the pump uses a shared hose with the E10 grades so just buying 2-3 gallons for my 1972CB750K I wonder what the final E ratio is to pump 2 gallons through the hose that was prefilled probably with E10. I saw a test on youtube where a guy explored this and the "non ethyl" fuel sample did indeed still have some Ethyl. Maybe pumping a gallon into my pickup, then 5 into a 5 gallon gas can would give me a better result for using in the bike and small engines at home ?

I use the SEF/VP fuel. It's made by VP Racing Fuels. Never have had a problem with it. I used VP race fuel when I raced dirtbikes for years. I have also tried the Truefuel but had issues with it and had to adjust the carb to get it to run right. Never did have to do that with the SEF/VP fuels.

I always try to refuse selling my customers that canned stuff, especially at $23 a gallon. I generally send them to check out with a new 1 gallon fuel can, some quality 2 cycle oil and directions to the closest 90 octane, ethanol-free station, with a dedicated hose. About 5 bucks a gallon! Yeah, I work at a big box store. 😒

@@geraldscott4302 You can remove ethanol from gasoline by mixing 1 cup of water per gallon, shaking well, and let settle. The alcohol will dissolve into the water, and the gasoline will float to the top. Separate the fuel from the water and you're good to go.

@@geraldscott4302 question: do you have a general aviation airport in your area? If you can get some *aviation fuel* - 100 low lead - *that’s* alcohol-free, and is said to keep well, also. Failing that - race gas?

@@dennisyoung4631 Yes there is a municipal airport nearby, but they won't put fuel in anything but an airplane. Race gas is available at the local dragstrip, in 5 gallon cans, at over $20 a gallon. My state has gone to great lengths to make it almost impossible to get ethanol free gas.

Yes you can remove ethanol from gasoline with water, but by doing so you are lowering the octane rating. This is not a good idea.

The only "canned gas" I have used is the Husqvarna branded pre-mix that I purchased with new saw. It started OK, but the saw, an auto-tune 572XP ran hot with it. My go to has been pump high octane with Red Armour at 40:1. I store long term with the Husky pre-mix in all 7 of my 2 cycle tools. Thanks for your observations, tips, and experience!

Everything I have that's 2 stroke is 40:1 ratio and 90/92 octane. If long term storage I go with non eth. I tell all my customers and friends to use 40:1 in there boat engine and if it's out of warranty to take off oil injection. Especially a V6 mercury! And the old VRO Evinrude/Johnson. In fact with those engines all one has to do is put enough oil to get 40:1 in the amount fuel left in tank and let it mix thoroughly. Check to see that fuel coming out "quick disconnect has a color to it. Run engine with oil line still connected to engine for a while on flushette which will like double oiling. After running engine say 10 to 15 minutes you are sure of oil mix in fuel tank is in carburetors you can disconnect the oil line from engine and the wires from the oil tank to the engine harness pull both out and remove oil tank. Pour rest of oil back into a container for use later. Watch as oil in oil container get near empty as there is usually sludge in bottom of container. Plug oil connector at engine with a cap and tie rap or worm clamp and you are done. The vro pump now is just a fuel pump. Use PRIEMIUM FUEL AND 40:1 mix from then on ! PRIEMIUM helps in decreasing the chance of " detenation " in an engine especially a two stroke outboard. Last I remember the new VRO pumps were north of 600.00 dollars and warranty was void if you use ethanol fuel ! That's how they got out of lawsuits from the junk vro Pumps. Which is one reason why OMC went under. Nor so much lawsuits but replacing powerheads on blown motors still under warranty.

i remember when i worked in a service station and we would mix our own 25:1 and 50:1 fuel/oil brand in large tanks and decant. with the reduced costs of 2 stroke oil and the ease for people to accurately measure the ratios, it was stopped. the mix was a blue green colour. we also sold fuel cans in different colours that made it easy to distinguish them apart.

Great video. Last time I started to buy a gallon of pre mixed fuel at Lowes and Home Depot the price was $25.00 a gallon. Where I live gas is now going at about $3.25 a gallon. Pre mixed fuel is ridiculously over priced, not real tough to mix your own.

Premixed fuel in Sweden is about $15 a gallon. ( just doing some math as well we of course don't use gallons or $ ) While from a tap it would be $10 for gas. Quite a difference.

First time watching your videos. I believe you solved the problem I've had with my weed wacker for quite a while. It does the same thing as the blower; revs up but then the *RPM* drops off even though the throttle is pulled all the way. Also like your safety work boots!

@wildcoyote34, bullshite! You obviously don’t know anything about octane. Octane has zero effect on air/fuel ratio. Now compared to E10, there’s a slight change, but it’s minimal. Higher octane could allow the timing to be advanced a skosh, but it’s certainly not required. The compression on these engines don’t require high octane, but adding oil does lower octane and fuel that sits loses octane. Given that the big sell on the canned fuel is storage, that’s likely the reason it’s high octane, to allow for an octane drop while the fuel is sitting.

@@donrichter3523 i know plenty about octane ,, having been building boosted engines for almost 30 years ,and also repairing small engines ,,, higher octane fuel in a chainsaw causes it to run rich because the fuel burns slower ,,the canned fuel burns slower than gasoline and it causes exactly what was happening with that blower ,,in a 2 stroke you can't change the timing ,, you adjust the fuel slightly ,, turning in the high speed screw effectively changes the AFR slightly to compensate for the fuel ,,i've done it to thousands of 2 stroke engines over the last decade ,,,there's also multiple other benefits to using canned fuel ,, you never have to worry about getting crap out of a dirty fuel can ,,it'll never have water in it either ,,,I got a laugh out of watching her pull and pull and pull on that worn out stihl chainsaw ,, i went out to my shed and picked up my husqvarna 455 rancher ,, primed it , pushed the compression release ,, pulled 2 times it fired and the 3rd pull it was running ,,that saw has not been ran since last october ,, 11 months ,, it would never have started if it had gasoline in it because gasoline turns to varnish ,, synthetic fuel does not

Please explain how higher octane, slow burning canned fuel causes an engine to run rich? You basically said it twice so I would hope that know how it works. But from where I'm sitting there is the same amount to fuel and air in the engine as there would be as if you were using gasoline. So I don't see how it can be richer. Now if you had said that canned fuel had a stoichiometric ratio of 16 or 17:1 I could see how that could make it rich. But that was not your claim. In fact, you claimed that high octane fuel in general would cause this rich condition. Wouldn't that mean, according to you, that the hundreds of millions of times that people put premium gas in their carbureted cars that didn't call for it, they were running rich? It's odd that I never heard anyone say not to do that because it will make your car run rich and you will get worse MPG. Also the manufacturer is claiming that it is a direct replacement for gas so the stoichiometric ratio would have to be the same or very close to gasoline. I have some Truefuel and it doesn't say anything about needing to adjust the carb on the can. Are you aware of anything on their packaging or website? If there is not and , according to you, this needs to be done to make the equipment run correctly, it's a HUGE oversight. And alot of equipment requires a special screwdriver to adjust the carb. Are you saying that the consumer has to go out and buy a screwdriver so they can use this fuel or any high octane fuel because it burn slower and therefore, richer? I know there is a lot so if it's too much please focus on explaining how fuel burning slower makes the Air Fuel ratio richer. I await you informed reply....

He specifically used the word *_effectively_* when mentioning AFR. He also mentioned that the synthetic fuel burns slower. If your engine is tuned to run on pump gas, for example, which burns at a particular rate, the engine will (barring other problems) run as intended. Let's say that a given cylinder volume and compression ratio is going to burn one milliliter of fuel per cycle. So your carb is delivering that amount because that's optimal for that engine, given its setup. The same quantity of a fuel that burns _faster_ (alcohol, nitro, etc.) will be completely burnt away sooner than the standard fuel. At peak efficiency, a cylinder should be given as much fuel as it can completely burn in a cycle. If the fuel burns off faster, there is time left in the cycle for more combustion, which won't happen unless the amount of fuel to the cylinder is increased. This, *_EFFECTIVELY_* will cause a lean condition. The remedy for a lean condition is to increase fuel supply to the cylinder. On the same token, a fuel that burns slower may not burn off completely by the end of a cycle. Of course, as the knowledgeable individual you seem to be, you know that exhausting unburnt fuel is a sign of a rich condition - more fuel than the engine can burn. If you have a slower burning fuel in a setup for faster-burning fuel, the same rich condition can easily be achieved. The remedy for a rich condition is to reduce the fuel supply to the cylinder. So, dude isn't wrong. I think you're just missing the point he's trying to make about it. Either that, or (hope not) you're some kind of know-it-all keyboard warrior who's just feeling a bit combative and trying to look superior. I'm gonna err on the side of caution for now and believe you simply misunderstood what he was getting at.

All fuel gos bad no matter what brand canned or not first of all. Says up to 4 years on sealed can and up to 2 years after open. Also that’s a dark can in a dark spot so clear tank on a saw in the sun is completely different. Where my wife works sells many units of Stihl equipment and tons of canned gas they don’t see issues with canned gas. No idea how long the saws been sitting 91 octane e-free gos to crap after awhile too.

My neighbor was complaining about how it was hard to start her brush cutter so I handed her a can of my mix and told her the gas was probably bad. She told me it worked great and so I asked her what ratio she was using and she told me she bought it in a can at the store. I told her not to use that crap because it doesn't burn well. I only know this because every time I have used it in my equipment it makes it run like crap. Good to see someone with a voice calling this crap out.

I buy non ethanol for all my yard equipment but more and more they are making carbs out solid plastic. I got a new Briggs pressure washer somebody gave up on because they left gas in it and there's no fuel shutoff. It was an easy fix. Flushed out the all plastic carb (replacement cost on Amazon is like $10) and retro fit a fuel shut off. Project farm did a video on what ethanol does to aluminum. No ethanol for me.

Sometimes it's how it was physically stored last. You know those cheap single stage snowblower that always go bad? They are supposed to be hung by the handle or sat face down on the floor. They are engineered to empty the carburetor when sat like this.

I have had that problem with 2 different blowers from stihl with premium gas and still oil. Have had this for several years and not sure why. Loved this video. It could not be more obvious. I have gone to using Stihl or Echo pre mix. I sometimes let my tools sit for up to 6 months, I have about 10 of them, and I’m just a homeowner who likes power tools, so I don’t use all of them every day. Have you ever had any problems with these fuels? My favorite now is Moto Mix. It’s expensive, but cheaper than replacing OEM carburetors. I have had no problems since I went to Moto Mix. Curious, what is “your fuel”?

Like you, I'm also a homeowner who likes power equipment and I do the same as you, I use Motomix in my 2 cycles when storing and sometimes for regular use but most of the time I mix my own for regular use and I never had any problem with my equipment that I've owned for the past 10 years. The only thing about Motomix is that I noticed when using my Stihl ms441 and KM130r that they have a bit more power when I use my own 91 octane gas mix at 50:1. I never got an engine that bogs down like the blower in this video BUT I did use the 4 cycle Trufuel from Home Depot once in my lawnmower and I did have trouble starting it so I never bought another Trufuel can after this and never will. Trufuel is piss in a sealed can.

On a similar topic, my friend is a farmer, they have a bulk gasoline tank filled on farm by their supplier once or twice a year. Since the removal of leaded gasoline, he has noticed that after about 3 months, the gasoline used in his vehicles makes them run poorly, motorbikes wont even start. Fresh fuel is always best, preferably no ethanol.

I bought 2 cans of this fuel early this summer to try in my saw. The first can seemed fine and the saw ran normally, however when I got to the second can (same brand, purchased at the same time) the saw was difficult to start and wouldn't rev properly. I finally emptied the tank and replaced the fuel with 100% gas/oil mix and the saw ran fine again. That was enough evidence for me.

I bought a weed eater 2 years ago. They offered an extended warranty if you used their canned fuel. The unit would not rev up to full RPM. Took it to the place I bought it. They adjusted the carb. It was better but still not achieving full RPM. Then I saw a video of yours or maybe someone else (not sure) about the canned fuel. Stopped using it at that time. The unit runs great and reaches full RPMs. It is however harder to start now. But still runs way better than on that premix junk! Thanks for the heads up.

As others have commented I'm also curious as to whether part of the problem is that the engineered fuel got old or stale, either in the delivery chain or just sitting in the piece of equipment for a long time. It would have been interesting on that blower to subsequently dump out the mixed gas and that refill it with a "fresh" can of the engineered fuel and see if it's still ran below max RPM.

But how does that solve anything? With the canned fuel, it is the age that it is, and you use it at the rate you use it. For my 2 cycle equipment, I mix up enough fresh from the gas station pump, to use within 2 months. For my use rate that is 2 & 2/3rd cups of gas and 1 tablespoons of oil to reach roughly 43:1 ratio. If it gets stale, I set it aside to use as a parts washing solution, or it is also a good substitute for products like Goo-Gone to clean petroleum adhesive/sticker residue off of things. Even better if you put a little diesel fuel in to slow down the evaporation rate. Use outdoors, of course.

I love this video, I am a small engine mechanic in north Louisiana. I have customers that use premixed fuels, when they bring me their equipment because its not running right or just not running. First thing I do is pour out their fuel, I am a Red Armor fan, I have proved to myself its the best oil you can buy, its pricey though. My experience in this issue I will pour their fuel out in front of them and fill their unit with my premix Red Armor, and most of the time I don't make any money from that customer, but they will return or refer me someone. I am a very limited shop and will not work on just anything simply because its not worth taking your money, and next year you bring it back to me and be upset because it doesn't run right. Mostly most of my customers problems are fuel issues and spark arrestor screens in exhaust and Mud Dobber nests in the exhaust in a lot of Stihl blowers. I haven't watched all your videos but what I have seen, you are a awesome mechanic, keep the videos going. Thanks Mike

One Fall I decided to try the big box fuel for storage over the winter. In the Spring everything was hard to start….that never happened before. Never used it again and never had a starting problem in the Spring using premium ethanol free.

Your shop coffee must have a heck of a kick! More seriously... I wonder if freshness has an effect. I'd be willing to bet that somewhere along the supply chain those cans sit for way too long. Perhaps the fuel is OK when it goes in the can, which is why it works for some people, but at some point the age matters and you see problems. I am pretty sure that when I make my own mix, the gas hasn't sat around for very long.

I have had Echo fuel in a trimmer and chainsaw both, set over the winter, and well into the summer for the saw, they both fired up with out having to do anything but prime the trimmer, choke the saw, saw did not have bulb to prime, both fired up and ran just fine on left over fuel in the tanks, it was Echo Red Armor fuel

I don't know if they still have a date stamp on the bottom of the cans but I don't care what the chemistry is, the fuel will deteriorate when mixed with any brand of two-stroke oil. Red Armor has a preservative in it that is supposed to be good for two years. To me it is much easier to get an accurate measuring cup and only mix the amount of fuel and two-stroke oil I need at any one time; much easier than taking it to a shop or rebuilding the carb. I am a fan of Amsoil Saber at 40:1 and have been using it for over 30 years in all my two stroke equipment including large chainsaws (461, 660).

I have a cheap Poulan saw that's been a bear to start since brand new. It may need valves adjusted as the compression is huge to overcome. I do use mid-grade ethanol fuel because ethanol-free fuels are no longer available in my area. I do use Echo fuel oil mixed with my Echo 210 weedeater that's about 15 yrs old and always starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull. Now it needs new fuel lines and the tank grommet replaced. Great video, as a general mechanic I miss out on a a lot of the small engine intricacies. For all my gas ( Here in OZ we call it petrol ) engines I use pump gas plus fuel stabiliser, works a treat and never fill a 2 stroke with someone else's mix.

What kind of fuel do you use? What octane? I just had my Stihl serviced because it wouldn’t start. It probably only had 2 to 3 hours on the saw. They said someone messed with the carburetor, however it has never been out of my possession. They replaced the carburetor under warranty. They said to use the canned fuel. I bought a can and was shocked at the price. Although it was about $10 cheaper than Stihl fuel. I have been using a chainsaw for probably 60 years and this was the first, and last can of premixed fuel I will buy. Great video.

Wow! Once again I have been duped into believing that manufacturers would produce the best fuel for their products and I even bought one bottle of way too expensive fuel. My new trimmer ran okay with it but ran even better with the next tankful of mixture I used at a third the cost. I figured it was better because of being broken in, but now I know it was better fuel at much lower cost.

I used to HATE 2-stroke engines to the point I even bought a new Honda 4-stroke trimmer just to not deal with them. I finally figured out it was the fuel causing all of my issues. Now I only run non-ethanol fuel and Amsoil Saber at 50-1 and ALL of my 2-strokes run like fuel injected 4-strokes now.

We've known about alcohol free fuel problems for 20 years. We buy 55 gallon sealed drums from oil distributor. Or you can buy pump gas and take the alcohol out yourself which is way cheaper.

I only use Stihl premium (silver bottle) and do it by the instructions which is 50:1. Never had a fuel issue.

The reason bought a can of premix is I live in town and only use my small home saw a few times a year and hate the idea of keeping a gallon of mix fuel at home in a single car garage. A one liter can is easy to store and the kids won't mix it up. And put it were it shouldn't go

I don’t recommend snatching at the pull cord like that it can’t be good for the machine or cord. The only reason to do that would be if the operator is not physically able to pull it firmly against the compression. Just my opinion.

Only thing wrong with ethanol gas is it that it doesn't store well, especially in fuel lines & carburetors. Throw in some Sea Foam when you fill your can and that will help stabilize it. But yeah for small engines of any kind, non-ethanol gas is always the best if you can get it.

I bought it once back in the day. I have bought VP premixed fuel because I know they are an actual fuel producer. I buy a five gallon can of VP MS98 and mix it with Echo Red Armor. VP fuel has a three year shelf life. I use VP as storage fuel for all my carbureted equipment.

I like VP as well. I was in Walmart one day near the outdoor power equipment. I saw 4 bottles of VP syn 2 cycle mix in the 16 oz bottle for $2 each. I haven't turned back since.

Same here. I’ve had the exact same gas can for a couple decades. I have been using Walmart Hypertech 2-stroke oil and decent 91 octane gasoline. If it is late in the season, I add the recommended amount of Sea Foam to stabilize the gas. So far, no problems with my 50:1 ratio tools, even Stihl, after several years. So far this season, I haven’t needed to change any spark plugs. I’m definitely not going to touch that pink stuff.

Why is everyone having trouble with the new gas cans? They're so simple to use. I've avoided fuel related issues by just stabilizing all my small engine gasoline. It takes forever to go through a gallon of mixed gas. I know there would be issues if I didn't stabilize it.

@@karlrovey I finally found a plastic gas can branded Briggs & Stratton which appears to have a reasonable finger trigger on the spout. I just got it, so I haven’t put fuel in it yet. The other stupid new gas can I had required pressing down on the lip of the fuel inlet of the equipment in question to press a trigger. It was nearly unavoidable to get fuel all over the place trying to fill my hedge clipper and backpack blower due to their slanted inlets. I’m glad I hung on to my old gas can which is the go-to for my 50:1 fuel for now.

It's simple. 1 bottle of 2 cycle oil Per gallon of unleaded gas, mixed into the same gas container. No premixed box store stuff. .. make me it yourself

I've actually never tried the cans stuff because I found it very easy to make my own. however you should not just say it's simple one bottle to 1 gallon of gasoline, as you can buy larger quantities than a standard small size bottle. I did find a handy measurement device though that tells you how many fluid ounces to put in based on how many gallons of gas, relative to the ratio you need for your device.

I was having problems with my weed wacker and picked up canned fuel from the orange box store in order to rule out a fuel problem. Cleaned the carb, replaced the cracked primer bulb, lines, and filter. Wasted a day struggling to get it running again and tossed it. What a PITA if it was the fuel all along...😩

Hi Bre! I have learned so much from your videos! Watching your one from a year ago about bar oil leaks, I noticed you poured the bar oil in the traditional method, "Tip her up and let it rip". But I may be able to help[ with a neat trick about pouring oil (or antifreeze) from a plastic bottle. A full bottle will do the glug, glug of burping out the liquid and often some misses the target. Instead of holding the bottle in the "normal" or intuitive position turn it around backwards. When you pour with the opening back near the webbing of your thumb and index finger air easily gets into the jug which allows the fluid to flow smoothly. Aim carefully and you will have much less spillage. Readers, this does NOT apply to gas cans. Love your program Bre!

I didnt even know canned fuel was a thing. We always mix our own and when ethanol became a thing we just started getting gas at the local marina ethanol free. Grew up with boats and snowmobiles that you had to mix. A little cross multiplication gives you the right oil/gas combo

If you can't find ethanol free gas you can also use a big clear water jug and mix the gasahol with water and shake it up and then let it settle out and the water will absorb the alcohol, the water and and alcohol will sit on the bottom and you can siphon off the clean gas on top

Stihl in Pittsburgh is selling 1 gallon of 50 to 1 gas for 43$ . I asked if it was a pricing mistake. I laughed and told them I've been using 93 octane with 10% ethanol for 10 yrs without any problems

Let me post a theory, if I may, about one possible cause of the issue. In opening the latest, and bad, can, I noticed a little play in te plastic top with the screw lid. This is a plastic unit which is pressed into the can, as opposed to having an all metal can with full sealing in its construction. Perhaps long-term exposure to air or water vapor over time and handling causes the fuel to go bad. (And for those of you in the fuel company, reading this, please tell the "Suits" that saving 0.17 cents per can by doing it the cheap way is no saving if the product goes rancid before use and your customers abandon you. Like I am doing).

First off, if you use a good mix such as from Stihl it has Stabil in it. A fuel stabilizer is very important for storage. Secondly, I RELIGIOUSLY put SeaFoam in my mixed fuel in the spring to clean up the fuel system of anything that might have collected in it. Thirdly, STAY AWAY from any ethanol based fuels as it will ruin the hoses and gaskets in the fuel system-they are not made to use that garbage!

I'm thinking it's freshness related too.... By the time it's made, canned, shipped, sits on the shelf, etc... it's proly 6months old when it's cracked open, and I doubt they are using any extra stabil or oil since those cost more than the gas itself. Old gas, plus minimal additives.... but the profit margin is awesome!

@@tshackelton I think the theory behind these fuels is that they are mostly those compounds which are more stable and less prone to degradation over time. I have had marvelous success with them, till I suddenly didn't, which is indicative of either batch defect or sample defect. Noting the design of the can, it is quite possible that some cans are less well sealed against long term water and oxygen incursion than others. Hence, the spotty nature of the problem. You can get people lined up on both sides of the line swearing it is great or it is junk. It may just depend on storage time and can integrity.

Unleaded gasoline starts to go bad after 30 days, it's efficiency degrades slowly over time. So it's not like an expiration date on milk and the time can vary but it can go bad quicker than people realize. Small engines seem more sensitive to this as opposed to the "ol International Harvester Pickup out back that's been sitting for a year and fires right up. I am a mechanic also and bad gas doesnt happen often but there are times where I have checked spark, cleaned the carb, tested the CDI Box, tested the coil, tested the stator, adjusted the valves, (already checked for water in fuel) and lastly....this is how you check......dump some fuel on the ground and hit it with a match.- Nothing happens. When it has been sitting too long it will hardly burn, Diesel even seems to burn better

Here in Norway, I have used Aspen2T (alkylate gas) in over 20 years in Husqvarna/Jonsered/Partner chainsaws, grass-trimmers, and brushcutters and never had any problems whatsoever with original or modified engines.

I have been mixing my own fuel in my Echo es5500 for the last 28 years (With regular gas as per manufacturer's recommendations) and it still works like a charm. Some people tell me that I should always use hi octane gas on small engines but I'm very sceptical about that and need clarification.
