Hi mate I ended up having to use 4 of the shorter bolts .I didn’t think they were going to be long enough but I tightened them up last and they were fine. I also used the Kaon brackets. The reason why I chose the Kaon brackets was if you were to use the Universal brackets you would have to drill holes in the ARB bass rack and I didn’t want to drill any holes plus using the Kaon brackets they are just straight on bolt on bracket. Thanks for your video it was a great help

Great video. All of the reasons you chose the bush company xt270 are the exact same as mine. I looked at over a dozen awnings and all were cheaper but none came close to the build quality or strength of these units. Mine is going up on the weekend.

Any chance you could have fitted taller brackets so the tailgate doesn’t hit? Great video!
@TravelExplore4x45 күн бұрын
@@jj866 if you wanted to you could definitely do that. But then I personally think it would look odd on the roof rack, the awning is pushed up very high making clearance an issue and also it would leave a gap between the roof rack and the awning letting more weather in. The tail gate wasn’t pushed that much further down when the awning was open. I could still be under there comfortably, especially with the lift and tyres.

I think double washers would better, so the nuts don't wear thru plates, it would have area to grip.

They only sent me 2 brackets to connect to. I called them and they said that is all I need. I have same one as you have here. Even directions say I only need 2. So how did you end up with 3? Thx
@TravelExplore4x49 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure there is an option to choose between 2 or 3 when you order them. I chose to go with 3 as preferred to have the added strength. There is a heap of load that gets put on to those brackets with free standing awnings.
@Check_For_Response Жыл бұрын
Nice. I’ve been thinking about one of these to replace a Supa-peg Rapid Wing 270 that I’m officially over after 4 years! Plus, I need the extra strength since I’m planning a drive out of the NT, through VIC, NSW and QLD over Dec/Jan of 2023/2024… Rapid wing is fine for up here but I won’t handle the weather down south! Looks like this awning is being added to the list.

Hey great video!!! I think I could see you used nuts to lick the bolts into position to get the bag in the correct spot . Is that right ?? Great idea with the hammer 👌🏻
@TravelExplore4x4 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig. Yep I put it into position and then tighten the bolts where they needed to be and then got the bag into place. Then used the hammer to punch the holes out and took the bag off, took the nuts off and fitted the bag over the now loose bolts. The holes will locate the bolts into the correct position

Hey mate, appreciate all your videos. Not sure if you have mentioned it before just wanted to check the height increase with the base rack installed before you did the awning? I just need to confirm I’ll still fit the car in the garage, trying to decide between this one and the Dash rack which is the lowest profile. Cheers
@TravelExplore4x4 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate Apologies I must have missed your comment. Did you end up finding out the height? Do you have a live and what size tyres.
@wadeknox-fx8tc Жыл бұрын
@@TravelExplore4x4 I don’t have a measurement confirmed yet. We hopefully take delivery in the next month or so, plan is to keep standard height and tyres so just needed to confirm the height increase once the rack goes on. Do you have measurements at the front, middle and rear of the rack above the roof? Cheers

Thanks for sharing this video. I was wondering how this awning is mounting on Arb base rack because I have the same rack. Question about your leds, what are they and where did you buy mount for them?
@TravelExplore4x410 ай бұрын
Hi mate. If you watch the video you can see how they are mounted to the rack. I did a video on my side lights and put a link in the description of the ones I bought.

Great video and just what I'm planning to do next. Same rack, same awning, same brackets. My problem is getting it into the garage after the install. How much lower do you think you could mount with out affecting functionality?
@TravelExplore4x4 Жыл бұрын
Hey Ross Thanks mate, appreciate that. Depends how high your car is and what car you have. This awning does affect the opening of the rear tail gate. Do the lower you go the the lower the tail gate will be. But if I didn’t have the tail gate I would have gone lower with it.

Any potential to get a rooftop tent on the rack as well with the KAON brackets ?
@TravelExplore4x4 Жыл бұрын
Hmm most rooftop tents I have seen are usually same width as roof rack or wider. What type do you have? The the XT I think you only need 2 brackets technically, so you may be able to fit it in the middle. If you go the whole bush company setup the awning can actually mount to the roof top tent. It’s not a cheap exercise though

Crazy an awning so expensive has so much diy to it. Im buying this to replace our tuff stuff 270 but that one was already 99 percent put together and took way less efffort to mount . At less than half the price 🤷
@TravelExplore4x44 ай бұрын
@@seanwatson3790 Hey bud Yeah I get what you’re saying. I guess the good thing about that is that you are more flexible on how and where you mount it and aren’t limited to where they have the studs coming out for you. Not sure how the other one came when you had it but with the way I fitted mine and on the Arb system the brackets can only go in very specific spots so the studs for the awning would have to be in the correct spot. And to be honest it wasn’t really that hard and didn’t take too long. The filming of it made it take a lot longer.
@seanwatson37904 ай бұрын
@@TravelExplore4x4 I had to use the universal ones it came with because they were flat enough to fit underneath where I have my tent mounted. Don't have a lot of clearance. Which is worrying me about this one a bit cuz the brackets aren't as thin as I might be needing them to be to fit under the tent to my rack
