I'm not done with the video so maybe this gets answered later but what conference is it? It keeps getting referenced but not the name

Oh my goodness, I don’t know if we ever actually said it! It’s the Craft & Commerce conference hosted by ConvertKit (soon to be called “Kit,”) an email service provider. The conference itself is niche - perhaps around 400 people? - but we wanted to highlight the overall impact of going to any conference that’s pertinent to *your own* domain.

The "Fire Movement" lost its way when "side hustlers" allied with "content creators" to make a flood of monetized branded overproduced social media "products". You consider yourselves an "industry"? What happened to "retirement"? You're not "serving a community", you're "exploiting an audience". This video confirms what I already knew. I don't expect this comment to survive for long (no doubt you have an employee screening them) but there it is.

This is Paula, not an employee. And we are not going to delete your comment. We invite all types of feedback! What I hear you say is that you feel frustrated with the idea that some people promote “retirement” while also taking part in an industry. Well, I can certainly understand your frustration, I myself have never promoted the idea of “retirement,” defined as the cessation of income. I myself only promote work optionality.

@@affordanything Well I've posted variations of this question to at least two other "FI" youtube channels and I was banned from them. So I at least thank you for not doing that. But I stand behind my observations.

It saddens me to hear that your comment was deleted from other peoples channels! I think your observations are incredibly valuable, and free speech is worthy of protection. I agree that it is absolutely true that anyone who has a robust KZbin channel or a podcast is, by definition, working hard - and therefore not retired, if one defines retirement as the cessation of income-producing activity. Personally, I have never referred to myself as retired, and very often emphasize the idea that my goal is to be like Betty White or Warren Buffett, both of whom work into the age of 90s (Betty White was working when she died at age 99, and Warren Buffett is currently 94 and still the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.) My lifetime goal, as I have stated publicly many many times, is to be like them - healthy enough to continue working when I am 94 or 99 years old, but doing so based on choice, not need. Financial independence is work optionality. The experience of work is different when it is done by choice, rather than by necessity.
