Fun fact Baba Jaga is a demon from slavic mythology, a witch to be exact, she roams woods in her house that moves on chicken legs or by herself suffocating children and adults with her saggy boobs. Children sometimes play a game named after her. 1 of them stands at the end of a corridor or a room and counts to 3 after that turns back for a bit. Other children have to get to her asap but everytime "the witch" turns back or walks up to them, they have to be completely still or they lose. As weird as this information sounds it's actually true slavic legends are full of weird stuff. I've gathered it when i was doing research for school. Edit. Baba means woman usually used pejoratively , whilst jaga might mean unsafe, suffering or strong/powerfu most likely it's just a dangerous woman. P.S. No Jack, the baby-bird myth is not true. Of course, when a kid goes out and picks up a baby bird they find and bring it home they've probably bumped around the poor little bird so much that it's as good as dead. Kids being kids and all. In fact, birds have a really poor sense of smell, with underdeveloped olfactory portions of their brains. The exception being vultures, and other scavenging birds. But even picking up baby birds you find on the ground probably isn't a good idea, as they're most likely fledgling and shouldn't be handled.

I totally agree Snake. Except the part about fledging. I breed show birds and it is a common misconception that baby birds jump from the nest to "learn to fly". Actually, they practice while still in the nest by flapping the wings, which also helps to build strength for flying. They won't attempt to leave the nest until they have some lift going on. They are capable of flying before they will risk leaving the nest. Most of the time when you see a chick on the ground it is because the nest has been upset in some way, or even more sadly it's probably because bird parents have the ability to sense when something is just not right and will kick the chick out. It happens to us breeders sometimes, and we will always try to replace the chick, but most times the parents will repeatedly kick it back out.

Bird parents can be surprisingly determined. I once found a baby bird in the grass outside my house, and it had clearly fallen from its nest in the rafters. It couldn't fly and was too young to survive on its own, so I brought it home. I was raising it by hand, and one day I came back to my room to find its two parents on the floor. They were feeding the baby, and the moment they realized I had spotted them they hopped back up on the windowsill and flew out. They came back again after that to feed their baby, and it made me really happy to see them. So apparently, even though the baby bird had been handled by humans and lived in a house, it didn't dissuade the parents from doing their jobs as caretakers.

I've read somewhere that if you do come across a fallen chick to put it some place safe near where you found it because if the parents are still caring for it they will hear it's begging and take care of it where it is.
