Fantastic, so very helpful, just wish that as much emphasis is on OM5 as OM1. Sometimes hard to get a lot of information on entry level cameras

Thanks for the video. I was occasionally having problems getting focus and even thought there was a fault with my camera. I didn’t even think about checking the focussing points or what kind of focus detection my camera was set on. I was getting very frustrated and I was trying to get round the problem through using MF and especially through using the manual focusing clutch on some of the Pro spec lenses (an amazing feature in itself), which did solve the problem. But it meant having to go into settings to choose MF and I’d miss some shots, especially when I wasn’t using Olympus/OMDS Pro lenses. So thank you for the tip.

The first thing I did after ordering my OM-1 was to order a manual from Petr Bambousek. One of the best wildlife photographers I know and at the same time an ambassador of OM-system. The manual is excellently prepared, simple even for a beginner. Thank you for the video and have a nice weekend

Thanks for making this video. I am saving for the OM-1, right now I just have the mark 1, Olympus OM-D EM-10, which is great for learning.

The best camera is the one you have in your hand. I recently got a PenF and even if it is not a recent camera it is still so fun to photograph with it.

I wish I had this when I started with Olympus back in 2019 with the TG-6. I now use an E-M1X (and still use my TG-6)

I love the TG-6! An mazing little camera. You had a big upgrade with the E-M1X!
@Bunnyisms3 ай бұрын
@@EmilieT Before my E-M1X, I had the original E-M1 with the battery grip which stopped working one day. I also have an E-PL8. Before that I actually was shooting Nikon (still do). That said, I've sold a ton of prints out of my TG-6. It's really capable. I use the double grip on most of my camera bodies because my wrist is kind of sensitive to a lot of twisting, and it helps me hold it more comfortably

Thanks for this video, Emilie. One question that I have NOT been able to find an answer to: Is there a way to keep the Super Control Panel on screen for longer than just a few seconds? It would be great if we could keep it on screen for 10-15 seconds (or more?) but I cannot find any menu or sub menu that gives us this ability. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
@EmilieT3 ай бұрын
Great questions. I don't believe so and can't find more information on this. But one solution if you want your Super Control Panel to stay longer is just to move the arrow every 5sec so you keep activating the screen and it won't disappear.
@paul_boddie3 ай бұрын
@@EmilieT This must be a thing on newer models. When the SCP kept disappearing in the video, I thought that you must have activated the eye sensor or something.

"The button to know", can´t you customize buttons on Olympus to do anything ??
@paul_boddie3 ай бұрын
Of course, although you have to navigate the notorious menus to do so. (They're not too bad, mostly.) But the "OK" button is the first button to know because it shows the super control panel (SCP) showing most of the shooting parameters. On earlier models, the SCP wasn't actually configured to show up when pressing "OK". Instead, you got a simpler menu like something I've seen on Canon models, so you had to go into the menus to fix that. I think Robin Wong said that Olympus needed to rectify this, and I guess they did in the end.
@cameraprepper79383 ай бұрын
@@paul_boddie I have Sony Cameras, I can assign any button to do anything and I can make my own menu system.
@paul_boddie3 ай бұрын
@@cameraprepper7938 Well, I have an older model which allows you to assign functions to different buttons. You don't get to assign "any button to do anything", like you can't assign the shutter button to something else, and I doubt that you can assign the direction buttons to arbitrary things, either. But alongside the function buttons, you can reassign things like the record button that otherwise suggest they have a dedicated purpose. I think newer models than mine, and maybe other models from the same time, have configurable menus. It would surprise me if any camera other than those supporting alternative firmware (and maybe the few cameras that run Android or similar systems) would support full customisation, as in really allowing you to design your own user interface. That would be the way to go, but Olympus dropped the ball on that: the Air could have pioneered it, but Olympus clearly didn't know how to develop a community able to take such a concept further. But anyway, the video is about beginners being aware of the SCP as a quick way to access settings, as I'm sure you know from having watched it.
