BYD would bankrupt Ford, now you know why USA decided to slap 100% tariffs on Chinese cars. There is no competition between Chinese EVs and American cars, even Americans don't want to buy Fords and GMs, they are mainly forced too because there is so little alternatives.

Thing about it is that US is caving to those local car manufacturers too much. They could have easily tuned that tariff so that the Chinese EVs end up just a bit cheaper than the competition thereby forcing said competition to lower prices. This way customers get more variety for less money and the US should still keep their car manufacturing industry.

saw a pole that people between 20 and 40 in the US rather want to buy a Chinese car mainly because they are cheaper and better overal. but they cant afford it now because of the 100% tariffs so there is no point for them to buy one.

Even as recently as 2020, BYD was still producing a good number of petrol cars, and had been selling 400,000 to 500,000 cars every year for close to a decade. But by 2021, BYD was well on its way to only produce and sell BEVs and PHEVs, and sales started to almost double every year, to over 800,000 in 2021, 1.8 million in 2022, and just over 3 million in 2023. They are projected to continue to add around 1 million sales annually for the next couple of years, which means BYD will have grown its annual sales from 400,000 in 2020 to SIX MILLION in 2026. No car company in history has been able to grow so fast so quickly as BYD has done in these past 4 or so years, and it truly is mind boggling how they've been able to achieve this.

I just got a shark in Mexico and it is impressive how you get a truck this big this powerful and with all this tech with very low operating costs. It seems It'll be cheaper to run than using my Honda civic 1 5t. Just in highway it is where the efficiency drops a lot but still the best fuel consumption for a truck , using just gasoline. I really feel this is a before and after in the pickup segment. Let's just hope the aftermarket service It's at the same level.

BYD will achieve global success. I spent 110,000 RMB (15,000 USD) in China to buy a 4.7-meter-long Hybrid SUV (BYD Song) that can drive 100 kilometers on electric power. Traded a G20 330i for a Seal Performance and haven’t looked back. More power than an M3, yet half the cost. And nearly 10k kms and not a rattle or squeak. Nor any issues other than their subpar customer service, but hoping that will get better. Rides great. Great range. Quiet. Quick. And a huge rear seat. Usually a brand snob but the Seal Perf was worth the loss of a badge. If this is BYD in 2024, wait to see where they will be in 2030. Beyond the tech of the Germans, Japanese or Americans. Really amazed by Jaws as we call him. Will be ordering a Shark when they become available and a Sealion 7, if it makes it here. A much better looking SUV than the 6 and full BEV with mirrored powertrains to the Seal. If the Yangwang U8 comes, will def order that as well as thinking hard about the U9. Yeah, hook, line and sinker here. But genuinely impressed with them.

This powertrain has been widely used and achieved great success in China, which has also made BYD quickly become the number one car company in the Chinese auto market (China's auto sales exceed one-third of the world), and the sales and prices of German and Japanese cars, which were originally the number one in China, have dropped significantly. The feature of this powertrain is that even if you never plug in the car and only run on gasoline, it is still the most fuel-efficient and powerful car in this type of car.

Look, if I didn't buy a Z71 diesel in 2018 I would seriously consider it top on the list. Plug in hybrid, plus use it to power your campsite.... Puts most of the canopy modder's nose out of joint there. Looks tidy and cheap enough for what you get.

I think it's good for us, the UTE market has become so expensive over the last few years it's become ridiculous, especially Toyota, bring it on BYD and to a lesser degree KIA, the BYD is making the KIA already look old before it gets here if they offer a old school under powered 4cyl diesel.

I have been hanging out for the release of the Rivian R1T in Australia, which feels like it will never happen. I am already a fan of some of BYDs cars and if they release an all-EV version of the Shark before Rivian is here I would consider buying one.
@injinerconev

This powertrain makes way more sense for a pickup/ute tbh. Going camping or doing some power tools work, using the v2l and then you can still have the range to get there and back. I think with a Rivian being full EV you'd never feel comfortable enough to do this for fear of being stuck with no juice. BYD were smart to give this a pretty sizeable battery for a hybrid.

@@injinerconevYou do have a point. However, I have been a member of a Rivian owners Facebook group for a couple of years now and the overwhelming opinions of those owners are extremely positive and contradict a lot of the nay-sayers. Quite a few of those Rivian owners do offroading and also tow boats and caravans. Rivian or an equivalent will be very suited to Australia and it's conditions judging by owners reports from the US.

This car honestly looks fantastic. I would however like to see a long range, long term test 4wdriving it in Australia, to kind of put to rest potential quality concerns. Proving itself to be better than a Ford Ranger shouldn't be the base mark, unless its only about price mark and vehicle sales, but not in terms of quality. Very few people swear by a Ranger for actual 4wdriving and overloading. If it's quality it need to prove itself as durable as the Isuzu d max or hilux. If that's the case, then I'm in. Hybrid tech is definitely the way to go as well for long ranges and overlanding, looking forward to seeing more of this

Yeh reliability and brand perception is the biggest drawback. My wife has had a BYD Atto 3 for 2 years, trouble free, reliable, and given she;s a high mileage driver 60,000km per year, she's saved over $10,000 in petrol and servicing costs. I;m still struggling with the concept of Chinese made cars, but week by week, I'm slowly chnging my mind and might buy one in a couple of years?? Still undecided, if I had to buy a car today be either a Mitsubishi or an Isuzu.
@zimuli3549
@zimuli3549 4 ай бұрын
It is the inability to compete with local carmakers, led by BYD, that has forced Mitsubishi and Isuzu to pull out of the world's largest car market (more than a third of global car sales are in China). In addition, due to the rapid decline in sales from 8% to 1%, South Korean automakers have also sold most of their production lines in China to Chinese automakers, and it is estimated that they will soon withdraw from the Chinese market.

Most Toyotas in the coming years are going to be rebadged BYDs and GACs cars (with a different front and back end), that are marked up heavily for the western markets. BYDs rise is not from nowhere go do a tour of their campus in China which is open to the public you will understand how diverse and large the company is. My first encounter was in 2009 when I realized almost every taxi, I got in to in Shenzhen was a BYD the tech of the car was good but the rest of it not so. Still, I knew this company is going somewhere and if u have a Nokia from the 90s and pull the battery of most likely it will say BYD. When BYD says something, they mean business.

Many of us are guilty of hearing an unfamiliar company name, and assuming it is a new company. When Hyundai released its first cars to the western world, lots of people thought is was some little startup, with its quaint little cars, not the heavy engineering giant that it really was. (I am NOT comparing BYD to Hyundai... just pointing out that we should never assume anything, without first checking the facts.)

Time will tell. The climate of Australia is the harshest test for vehicles; hot, wet, salty, windy, dusty, dry, cold snaps. You can really tell which vehicles are good quality based on what ends up staying on the road. For example; the old generation Ford Ranger was designed in Australia by Aussies, and built international. It has been unimpressive except for reliable. The new generation has already issues. It was designed in USA with similar international manufacturing. The old D-Max was heavily criticised for being unrefined and "too truck-like" but has topped the list for reliability. Meanwhile the Toyota Hilux has been okay, it has only stayed competitive due to excess parts availability and their vast support network. Same things apply for other vehicle categories. Especially Euro variants which make changes for the sake of changes, and add unnecessary complexity. The simpler a product, thr more reliable it is, and easier to keep it alive.

Honestly I reckon the real elephant in the room is the Aus press carrying on about a towing capacity most buyers won't actually use. So a request. When you can, I'd love to see this tow a 2 ton trailer & get some fuel / perf stats when you do. That's plenty for a 17-19' single axle van & a sensible amount of weight behind any ute. Let's see it actually do it & I'm all in. Seriously waiting for this to be released. With the novated lease incentives for PHEV until EOFY this has got to have a lot of people interested

Competition is key and having more features in the BYD hopefully makes other manufacturers take note. The reality is this product will suit many city buyers, however with independent rear suspension and a dismal tow rating, many ute buyers wont give it a second look. BYD have also missed the mark with payload for commercial buyers, where the magical 1T payload makes for an easy purchase decision. Time will tell re reliability, however perhaps the equally detrimental issue of depreciation still plagues chinese brands and EVs alike.

Hence why I won’t have solar and “sell” back energy to them. I’m still a petrol head and have many petrol guzzling vehicles and will always have them. The Seal is just a fun, comfortable, fast little too for peanuts.
