BYD would bankrupt Ford, now you know why USA decided to slap 100% tariffs on Chinese cars. There is no competition between Chinese EVs and American cars, even Americans don't want to buy Fords and GMs, they are mainly forced too because there is so little alternatives.

Truth.

Thing about it is that US is caving to those local car manufacturers too much. They could have easily tuned that tariff so that the Chinese EVs end up just a bit cheaper than the competition thereby forcing said competition to lower prices. This way customers get more variety for less money and the US should still keep their car manufacturing industry.

Even as recently as 2020, BYD was still producing a good number of petrol cars, and had been selling 400,000 to 500,000 cars every year for close to a decade. But by 2021, BYD was well on its way to only produce and sell BEVs and PHEVs, and sales started to almost double every year, to over 800,000 in 2021, 1.8 million in 2022, and just over 3 million in 2023. They are projected to continue to add around 1 million sales annually for the next couple of years, which means BYD will have grown its annual sales from 400,000 in 2020 to SIX MILLION in 2026. No car company in history has been able to grow so fast so quickly as BYD has done in these past 4 or so years, and it truly is mind boggling how they've been able to achieve this.

Yeh reliability and brand perception is the biggest drawback. My wife has had a BYD Atto 3 for 2 years, trouble free, reliable, and given she;s a high mileage driver 60,000km per year, she's saved over $10,000 in petrol and servicing costs. I;m still struggling with the concept of Chinese made cars, but week by week, I'm slowly chnging my mind and might buy one in a couple of years?? Still undecided, if I had to buy a car today be either a Mitsubishi or an Isuzu.
@zimuli35494 ай бұрын
It is the inability to compete with local carmakers, led by BYD, that has forced Mitsubishi and Isuzu to pull out of the world's largest car market (more than a third of global car sales are in China). In addition, due to the rapid decline in sales from 8% to 1%, South Korean automakers have also sold most of their production lines in China to Chinese automakers, and it is estimated that they will soon withdraw from the Chinese market.

Most Toyotas in the coming years are going to be rebadged BYDs and GACs cars (with a different front and back end), that are marked up heavily for the western markets. BYDs rise is not from nowhere go do a tour of their campus in China which is open to the public you will understand how diverse and large the company is. My first encounter was in 2009 when I realized almost every taxi, I got in to in Shenzhen was a BYD the tech of the car was good but the rest of it not so. Still, I knew this company is going somewhere and if u have a Nokia from the 90s and pull the battery of most likely it will say BYD. When BYD says something, they mean business.

I came across a news article that Toyota Corolla will have the new BYD engine with 2,000km range with a single tank. OMG, Japanese using Chinese engines and soon with CS35 (Chinese Standards 2035), Japanese might as well use Chinese AI for self-driven cars.😛
@amjedali51643 ай бұрын
yet all the western media are still going on about Chinese stealing IP from others. All western brands and Japanese just send there repasentraive to trade fares in china put there logo on and sell for 40× the price in 2024. There is 0 r&d done in the west and Japan.

Many of us are guilty of hearing an unfamiliar company name, and assuming it is a new company. When Hyundai released its first cars to the western world, lots of people thought is was some little startup, with its quaint little cars, not the heavy engineering giant that it really was. (I am NOT comparing BYD to Hyundai... just pointing out that we should never assume anything, without first checking the facts.)

Time will tell. The climate of Australia is the harshest test for vehicles; hot, wet, salty, windy, dusty, dry, cold snaps. You can really tell which vehicles are good quality based on what ends up staying on the road. For example; the old generation Ford Ranger was designed in Australia by Aussies, and built international. It has been unimpressive except for reliable. The new generation has already issues. It was designed in USA with similar international manufacturing. The old D-Max was heavily criticised for being unrefined and "too truck-like" but has topped the list for reliability. Meanwhile the Toyota Hilux has been okay, it has only stayed competitive due to excess parts availability and their vast support network. Same things apply for other vehicle categories. Especially Euro variants which make changes for the sake of changes, and add unnecessary complexity. The simpler a product, thr more reliable it is, and easier to keep it alive.

Honestly I reckon the real elephant in the room is the Aus press carrying on about a towing capacity most buyers won't actually use. So a request. When you can, I'd love to see this tow a 2 ton trailer & get some fuel / perf stats when you do. That's plenty for a 17-19' single axle van & a sensible amount of weight behind any ute. Let's see it actually do it & I'm all in. Seriously waiting for this to be released. With the novated lease incentives for PHEV until EOFY this has got to have a lot of people interested

Competition is key and having more features in the BYD hopefully makes other manufacturers take note. The reality is this product will suit many city buyers, however with independent rear suspension and a dismal tow rating, many ute buyers wont give it a second look. BYD have also missed the mark with payload for commercial buyers, where the magical 1T payload makes for an easy purchase decision. Time will tell re reliability, however perhaps the equally detrimental issue of depreciation still plagues chinese brands and EVs alike.

Seal Perf is our first EV and I’ll say I’d never, ever allow any vehicle I own to be a vehicle to grid help. They charge enough for electricity, they should have upgraded the grid many times over. Hence why I won’t have solar and “sell” back energy to them. I’m still a petrol head and have many petrol guzzling vehicles and will always have them. The Seal is just a fun, comfortable, fast little too for peanuts.

Expect Ford has been revising their Ranger PHEV planning since the Shark dropped, as by all accounts - apart from towing - the Shark is superior is all aspects. It’s unbelievable that it beats the Raptor on many levels. Looking forward to off-road tests and how it stacks up on reliability.
