I have such admiration. love and respect for Roger McGuinn. He's as solid as they come.

They still sound like the Byrds...with a modern beat.

Really a pretty good version of this classic. They got the essence of the song and nailed the ending.

Can anyone explain why the photos in the video are from about 2000 while the audio is from The Byrds reunion in 1989? To prove this, look at Hillman. He was thin and had an afro haircut in 1989 with his group The Desert Rose Band. These photos are from another Byrds reunion in which they performed exclusively to raise money for a charity. A benefit concert if you will.

Concur. Song's missing some of the grace that the slower studio version held.

As the Byrds covered this folk tune , that I believe was written by Pete Seeger or adapted by him . I suspect they sang the words as they heard them from Seegers recordings . As a musician often encounter problems understanding words on recordings . I will perform them as heard only to later find they are written completely different

@TheBabyboomkidof53 ...actually, this recording is playing faster and higher in pitch than was actually being played. The song is in the key of "D" and this is playing a half-step too high and fast, in "Eb"...

McGuinn corrected the Rhymney/Rumney pronounciation on his Live From Spain CD released a few years ago.

Anybody know where I might find the "My Back Pages" from this set?

I love this song, reminds me of my communist grandmother from Wales. This song is about a bloody series of mine strikes put down by the bosses. With the context the words are even more powerful.

I would think that was by design. "Rimney" would have been more Jet Age, more jingle jangle. In retrospect, I wish the Byrds had done more Seeger and less Dylan. They seemed more a little more passionate about the Seeger material, at least to me...

That's probably an accurate observation. Pete and Roger were very good friends,. Zimmy's stuff was often a source of sure-fire hits though, but Croz thought MBP formulaic.

It's Rhymney, pronounced Rumney, by the way (so almost right). Bit ironic that the Byrds got Blaina right (to rhyme with miner) and then messed up on the title.

Confusion with "Rimini" in Italy. Americans often don't realise that Europe consists of an assortment of different countries. A bit like "States", but with different languages.
