I was approached by a scammer who claimed he was a recruiter for the Central Intelligence Agency. This is my story.

I've *actually* met CIA recruiters... at a university event. Some things worth noting: 1. They won't contact you. You have to contact them. The application process is long, and you will need to take a polygraph test. I asked them why they they do polygraphs when they are known to be possible to fool, and they responded with more or less that they know this, but they don't have anything better. 2. Their headquarters is in Langley, VA. This is in the DC metropolitan area, but not in Washington DC itself. 3. They have their own secure means of communication. I'm pretty sure that isn't Skype. I'm also pretty sure they don't charge their prospective employees, considering that they don't exactly pay the best (it's not *bad*, but it's not quite competitive with industry). 4. Most CIA people are pretty damned smart. They're not just spies; there's lots of people from all different backgrounds working on creating technology, analyzing data, etc... If you can name a subject you studied in university, there's probably someone on their payroll whose job it is to know that for them in case it becomes necessary for national security. Kinda cool. But given that there are lots of smart people in the CIA, you can bet they are not the type of people to *forget to capitalize The United States of America*. 5. They also consider it of utmost importance that the people they hire be pretty much immune from corruption. They like geniuses, but what they really want is geniuses with little to no history of trouble with the law, and an unbreakable loyalty to the United States. I dunno how much you fit that bill, Pleasant Green.

Elite Parodies When they start addressing you as Sir in that way, they’re either from India or Africa. I’ll say India because African scammers write such stupid things. For instance, I’m getting a lot of distinctly Nigerian spam at the moment, and it’s all in one of two flavours. Either it says “I am an interesting not boring girl” in the subject line or it says “Hi, my name is Anna, I am an engineer” regardless of the spoofed sender name. Apparently, the dream woman in Nigeria is a not boring girl who is an engineer so the man doesn’t need to work.

I actually live near that Walmart and I visited there several times over the course of 3 years. I can now confidently say that there is no secret C.I.A. base hidden there. Or maybe there is and it was just under my feet this entire time. We may never know.
