So, just wanted to pop in listeners to remind everyone that the story is about an unsuspecting college boy who stumbles upon his dead grand-uncle's research... The mispronunciations are deliberate as to point out the "more knowledgable-than-thou" attitude of some young scholars, plus his unfamiliarity of the subjects involved... His disbelief melts into the ugly realization that everyone who has been unfortunate enough to be involved is now DEAD... This tends to unravel people... Especially those who think that "higher education" is the end all and be all of learning. Reading stories is about experiencing them vicariously, and he has just realized that the world of books and peer reviewed knowledge is only a small spectrum of what the universe is truly made of. Thank you all for listening and reacting! We love to hear what you have to say! Just be ready for us to react or respond to what you comment and be prepared for interaction w/ others- you are not dealing w/ a passive listening experience here. You will be drawn in, and you will be forced to react... So play well together children;)

+Jesse Cornett I must say your take on this work was absolutely fantastic. I have read this a number of times and heard many readings of it. Every one I heard it sounds as if the person reading it is not even interested in the story. You sir had me drawn in the entire time with the emotion and madness in your voice. Bravo sir, bravo.
@sapahayoooo7 жыл бұрын
Jesse Cornett wow,, unsuspecting college boy,, hahaa,, seeing that's how you interpret this story (it's very interesting, btw, your interpretation) no wonder you act it out like a real unsuspecting college boy who is now totally broken,, if the Mountains of Madness was told from Danforth's point of view rather than the professor's you would be the perfect one to narrate it! (or have you already done that one?)

@Lux Aeterna maybe, not sure if the insult is necessary there. But I mean that is a fair point, I personally like the idea of just hearing about these incidents can make you question reality itself if you're susceptible to that sort of thing which isn't that uncommon. Just look at conspiracy theories and how easy people buy into them. I personally love that, the idea of texts that just by reading it makes you go insane and frantic. Guess I'm just the minority with that
@Mosherkopter2 жыл бұрын
@Lux Aeterna jeez, touchy are we? you might wanna check yourself before getting all arrogant, i never said you insulted the narrator. And i only said im not sure if that kind of language was necessary in a subjective discussion about taste. You do you man but throwing buzzwords like white knighting around has some very strong redditor energy lol. Kinda ironic isnt it, you state how im white knighting for a fictional character and how im "pushing it" yet you get your undies all twisted at the notion of you insulting someone ^^ Have a nice day dude :D

I know not the reason, however nonetheless, lovecraftian literature is the sole vessel with which I may be able to use for safe passage between this plain and one of dreams, or nightmares. My nocturnal delusions are gated from me in this manner, but, despite my adversary stance, my resolve to pursue these sadows of consciousness remain steadfast. I feel I must continue and venture forward and down to meet them in their domain, and exit this one we're familiar with.

The way he starts off relatively calm and by the time he reaches the description of the sailers and their encounter with cthulhu himself he becomes a raving maniac is a really good reading of any of lovercraftian horror.

He was a lil over the top at times making me wonder if he was going to cry which was uncomfortable because it seemed so forced. If he toned it down and amped up the subtlety *in a few key places* I would focus more on the story and could be emotionally drawn into it as if my suspension of disbelief was just a natural and hardly noticed phenomenon. I do love his pacing though, it gave my mind a chance to truly appreciate the incredible mastery in nearly every sentence.

Please narrate "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". An absolutely amazing work of horror by the same author in the same series as Call of Cthulhu. It's about a man that is traveling through New England and ends up going to Innsmouth even though he's told not to. He ends up asking too many questions, poking around town too much, and finds out secrets. He is hunted down by the cult of the town to kill him. He manages to escape, almost caught by the rumored greatly deformed frog looking people he heard of. Then in the end there's such a twist I can't spoil it. (If you've played the video game for PC, Call of Cthulhu it is loosely based off of The Shadow over Innsmouth and Call of Cthulhu. This is an amazing horror video game.)

there's a fairly good movie that combines The Call of Cthulu and The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It was made in Spain I think but it's in English. It's called 'Dagon' but it doesn't really have much to do with the Lovecraft story of the same name. It's about 80% Innsmouth and 18% Cthulu and 2% Dagon. Instead the US the story is set off the coast of Spain and has Spanish characters.

The way you build to that terrified screaming climax at the end is perfect for the story! Being a Lovecraftian protagonist is never good at all. The sound effects throughout were creepy as heck, too. While I am a a heavy fan of Lovecraft's works, and Creepypasta in general (especially Otis Jiry) this narration was...atrocious. The narration, as the story is to be dark, done to inspire fear of the deep shadows, of the ancient evils lurking there beyond all comprehension. Not inspire random jump scares when the narrator shouts for no good reason.
