Excellent video... I am thrilled to see my father in so many photos.... He spent many years leading the mine rescue team for Geco as part of his job there.. He loved being a part of that team, working with his friends. They sacrificed a lot to do that job, not the least of which was their mental health, especially after having to recover the mangled bodies of the men after tragic mining accidents. I recall one deadly incident at the mine , a man died, which I wont describe in detail, the body recovery was horrifying, my father didnt speak for 4 weeks or more.. and my mother instructed us not to bug him nor talk to him until she said it was ok. Mines gave people their lives, but they also exacted a price.

I’m glad you found it worthy of watching . Building a strong safety culture took guidance and leadership, and your dad definitely played a role in it..

Saint Barbara is the patron saint of artillerymen, miners, and those in danger from fire, lightning, and explosions. The day commemorates the life of Saint Barbara, a Virgin Martyr who was born in Lebanon around 273 AD. According to legend, she converted to Christianity in secret, fled to Palestine, and was captured and tortured by her father for her conversion. She was eventually beheaded by her father, who was then struck by lightning and died. Miners commemorate their patron saint with a quiet, solemn atmosphere in front of the drainage tunnels of copper plate. They pray for protection and are grateful for an accident-free mining year. Adults and children dress up in disguise and go around to houses in villages singing and dancing the story of Saint Barbara. Saint Barbara's Day, also known as Eid il-Burbara, is celebrated on December 4th by Middle Eastern Christians in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, and Turkey. It is also celebrated by the Canadian Artillery and Royal Canadian Engineer.
