Thank you, Rob, for sharing this. On the way to the Cruz de ferro God answered my main question regarding my past. I wasn’t thinking of this question at that moment, but the words of God came clearly to me that the past is forgiven and I must move forward to the future. And when I came to the cross I put down two stones to say thank you instead of saying I am sorry.

@@HannesNieman I had a very similar experience Hannes. I knelt at the foot of the cross and laid my stones with a prayer. As I stood up to leave, it was like a hand on my shoulder keeping me there. Indeed, I had forgotten to say something..........another burden to unload.

The Camino magic is real and hard to understand until you've felt it. I too have many stories to tell I will share one - I will try to keep it brief. It was 2017 my first Camino I found myself walking and chatting to a young guy who was traveling with his father. His father had to bus ahead that day because of leg issues. The son was questioning his father's desire to have the son on the Camino. My father had passed away in 2000 - I gave this young lad some words of wisdom in relation to the great memories he and his father were making and how proud his father would be to share this journey with his son even though he might not say it or show it. I mentioned that I would give almost anything to share this experience with my father who had passed. We separated and the young lad walked ahead - I stepped of to the side of the track to take in the vista - the song Angels by Robbie William come on my MP3 player and their was a shift in the atmosphere- yep I cried my eyes out- it was at that moment I was finally able to let go and accept my father's passing. My father might not have been on that journey with me physically but he was definitely there spiritualy. I moved on that day feeling much more at peace.

Thanks for sharing that. I don't know about you, but for me this kind of magic really only happens if I'm walking on my own. i.e. I set out alone. I think it makes us much more receptive and open to our surroundings, our emotions and whatever 'external' influences we might believe exist. I've certainly cried a few times walking on my own. At the feeling of having a burden lifted, or maybe finally understanding something (an emotion or feeling or memory), and sometimes..........just sitting on a log, taking in the sheer beauty of the landscape, and being grateful to just be there! On Camino, I'm like the overly sensitive guy in that Movie Bedazzled! LOL. As you say, it's very hard to explain to someone who has not walked a Camino, why this happens 'on a hike'. Perhaps it's the energy and memory of the millions of Pilgrims who walked those very paths before us for over a thousand years? I swear sometimes I can almost feel them being there with me, on an old Roman road, as I head across a wide open plain on the Meseta without another soul in sight...... It's a feeling like no other.......

Thank you Rob for all your videos. I have been going through them one by one as I am planning on Camino Frances sometime in early Sep this year. I have suscribed to your channel and 'like' your videos but do not always take the time to comment. After this one I felt I should. Sharing your experiences, particularly on this one is very much appreciated and I can relate to magical things happening in our lives if we can only stay silent, and open and pay attention to the many revelations that can be missed in a noisy environment.

Thank you for sharing. Sounds like a spiritual life. Just to confirm your cherry blossom story. During the pandemic. I hit a very dark space. I was driving home and knew that I had come to the end of my life. I was sitting on my patio, crying and said out loud: This is no way to end it all! Right after I said that , a loud forceful wind blew thru the trees in response to what I said or so it seemed. It gave me pause bc there hadn’t been any type of wind. I looked at the trees & saw two 2 branches touching …. In the shape of a 💚 & thru that heart the light of the moon shone. It caught my attention. I am still here bc of it. For the past few months, the word Camino kept popping up. I wondered why. Then the word seemed to appear more and more often , it started to feel it like a kid poking at me. Then people started mentioning it. When I asked what the Camino is. They were elusive. I never heard about it. I was leaving the employee parking lot late 1 night, at a stop sign, looked left then right and saw the word Camino on a sign AGAIN. So I said that’s it, whatever The Camino is, I’m doing it. (Btw. There is NO sign by the parking lot that says Camino on it). I’m getting ready now for the month of May 2024😂my birthday month. God willing I’ll turn 61. It makes me feel better having a goal and btw. I just “ happen” to be flying to Lisbon in a few days ( work). Never been there before. Thank you. So glad to have found your channel and your wisdom. I’m going alone and am planning to take it slowly with about 5 weeks off. Many blessings to you & your family !

When I walked the Camino in 2017, I had several instances when I knew I was in God's hands. My Camino was very spiritual and very personal, so I agree with you that there should be at least some time set aside for walking alone. Yet, at the same time, the fellowship with other peregrinos created friendships that will last a lifetime because of our mutual journey. I would enjoy making that journey again some day. Buen Camino!

Thank you Rob , very inspiring. I like to share two moments After Astorga there is the Ermita del Ecce Homo a small church where I went in for contemplation. When I left the church I dropped 50 cent into the donation box and continued my walk to Rabanal del Camino. After only a few 100 meter I found 50 cent and picked it up. Today my interpretation is that I have to come back and finish my prayers. Another day I was walking in a group and when we left the restaurant we were not sure which direction to go. Ok , look at google and so on ... But I looked also to the sky and belief it or not I saw contrails forming an arrow ( 3 trails forming a tip and a line ) showing the right direction.

So you need to go back! On my next Camino I'm doing the VdlP. But heading North to Astorga and then joining the CF to Ponferrada before taking the Invierno to SDC. 2 reasons. 2 special places. I want to visit the Cruz de Ferro again. And I want to visit the Pilgrim Memorial Grove next to that little chapel outside Astorga.

On my first Camino (from Porto) I was solo and would often find myself humming along to a tune. I never remember lyrics so rarely knew what I was actually singing. I learnt to pay more attention and figure out what song had come into my head because it was always something emotionally relevant and made me smile and my heart glow. An example: it was my last day and also the longest I'd faced, still early and dark the rain was falling so off I head still not sure if I could manage this. I then figured out that the day's song was 'One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus'. I'm not a practicing Christian but that song really helped my attitude and certainly made me smile too. It strengthened me. I didn't chose that song, my thinking could take no credit! Maybe when you face a challenge and your head is pretty certain you can't do it, but you carry on and somehow your heart can open to help and make space. I was never ever lonely on my own. It's not easy to explain just how powerful these experiences are because they are so individual.

I think that the trick is to be in the moment. Not to focus on the destination, your speed, the number of steps you are doing (or to dwell on the past) but to be “present”. The other thought I have is that to some people the Camino is like a very long aisle in a place of worship.

I really enjoyed your personal magical/spiritual moments. Thanks for sharing. I think we can be open to these things happening in our daily lives too or other places/times if we let them but so many people are just in a rush to get somewhere. I spend quite a lot of time alone, in my own thoughts, even when surrounded by people. Glastonbury area has a deep spiritual resonance. I had a magical experience even in the midst of the crowds at Glastonbury Festival. The organisers had given out mini guides with mini pencils. I had lost my pencil and needed one. There were crowds everywhere ... I thought... "maybe someone else also dropped their pencil and I can find one on the ground?" so I looked down and immediately my eye fell on a pencil! This was staggering. But my eyes had already wandered to the left and right near the pencil and I saw other dropped pencils! About 20 at least, lying there in the mud. Amongst all these oblivious people milling about ...there was an abundance of unseen pencils... But I knew I had only found these secret pencils because I needed one. It came into my head 'seek and ye shall find, ask and the door shall be opened unto you...'. It might sound crazy but it was a truly enlightening moment. I was not only being given a single pencil, I was being shown that there was an abundance of pencils if that is what I needed. I felt truly bolstered and heartened by this lesson, surrounded by strangers and finally shared the story hours later when meeting up with my friend. Still, the impact of just telling soneone the story is never as profound as the unexpected experience itself.

Obviously it felt like a message that went beyond pencils.... I was just musing now that I'm a bit broke so maybe if I go out looking for £20 notes...? Lol

Yes indeed, the Camino is like that if we are open to it. This is why people often say "The Camino Provides". Which when it happens, usually means that the Camino gives you what you 'need' at the time, not what you think you 'want'. Simple example. Maybe you are looking for a private room in a small town for the night and can't find one, everything is booked. But you can find a dormitory bed in an Albergue. Though not quite what you wanted. What you 'needed' was a bed. The Camino provided one. But perhaps not only that. Maybe you are feeling very lonely and down. And staying in the Albergue that night, in close proximity to other Pilgrims, you meet wonderful people who raised your spirits. Again, what you 'needed'. Being open, and walking with an attitude of gratefulness rather than expectation, one can find these little things happening almost everyday. I guess many of these small lessons and 'gifts' go unnoticed by some? They might just be frustrated that they could not get the private room they wanted.

@@robscamino 'the Camino provides' - yes, that's reassuring and an act of faith and trust. I'm sure many people get changed by shifting their attitude to this more ancient way of thinking, rather than the modern belief that they have to fix/find everything themselves.

@@azby7933 Indeed. It's hard to let go at first I think. But I find walking alone enhances the experience. If you have watched a few of my videos, you will know I class myself as Spiritual rather than Religious. But on Camino........ I just become so much more open. I let go. Pray for guidance. Accept what comes. And try to see the lesson in whatever happens. It becomes a magical experience. Maybe through the lack of distraction? Back home? I'm just Rob. Working my Ass off trying to run a business. I think life, gets in the way' of life. Sorry, not trying to be an amateur philosopher. Like many repeat Pilgrims I think.........just missing my spiritual home 🙂

@@robscamino I'm enjoying working my way through your videos every morning - the ones about experiences as well as the practical ones. Business practicalities and hectic daily life can sadly suppress our spirits so I understand that feeling of yearning to getting back to your spiritual home and path. Walking releases the inner philosopher anyway, at least helps thought processes. It's such a natural way to move the body, step by step, shedding the cares of mundane life ...and with a purpose and destination, not just random wandering. I haven't walked any pilgrim route to Santiago but I very much enjoy absorbing others' experiences. Maybe one day I'll make it! In the meantime, back to the videos....
