Thete was an article recently in The Athletic whete they graded and ranked everybteam's contract situation. The Habs were #16 with a B-, and the worst contracts were obviously Gallagher & Anderson. I thought that was so important because in a salary cap structure, YOU NEED the players to play to yheir paper. Last year i believe they were #26... So big increase. The #1 team was Florida, #2 was Edmonton. This to me shoes how important this analysis is.

Their criteria is not what team is in the best position to rise, it's what team made the best bargains. You can't really compare with the same criteria the contracts of a team in a rebuild like the Habs and the contracts of a team with lots of veterans who aspires to win the SC like the Predators. If the Preds win the SC, they will be seen as the best moves ever even if they were to be bad for the next 10 years, they will say it was worth it. And if they lose in the SC finals in the OT of a game 7 because of a bad break, everyone will say it was all for nothing, and they will critique some of those contracts like Stamkos for instance. The Habs are in a great position to build a contender. Those bad contracts are what makes the Habs contract situation one of the best in the league, because they will get a portion of that $ at the end of the next 3 seasons. Kent Hughes could not have asked for better timing. He knows who he has to trade and knows who he has to wait and see how much they grow each year for the next 3 years which will be the most important ones for the Habs. KH already knows they will make the playoffs in season 4, the question is can they make it in season 3? In season 3, they will make it or come close. The fans are way too impatient when they're demanding for playoffs in season 1 (2024-25). It's not going to happen and Hughes knows it. I mean, everything is possible, but the only way to make that work is to take ice-time from our youth and give it to the lacking and slacking bottom 6 forwards. There's no reason to do that unless you're aiming at the Stanley Cup. Moreover, if we want the youth to grow, we will have to live with the unhappiness of the veterans who won't be motivated to push harder because they don't have the ice-time they wish they had. Season 1 is a break it or make it season for a lot of players. There's still clean up to do in Laval, meanwhile we're patching small contracts. Hutson and Dach will make the team better than it was, but it won't be enough. It's more possible that the Habs make the playoffs in season 2 (2025-26) than in season 1, simply because of the Demidov factor. The age of their roster also permits them to be flexible in their decisions. They have enough cap space to sign a 12m$ aav player like Draisaitl on July 1st 2025, so imagine if they keep that money for a bit and manage to find 2 players that are worth 7m$ each for 6m$ each! If they really REALLY wanted to make an attempt for a swift push, there are no better options than Draisaitl for 12m$ aav 5 years. There's enough money in the bank to pay Demidov 9m$ in 2028, and the other important players we don't want to lose in 2027 and 2026 (Hutson, Dach, Reinbacher, Kapanen, Mailloux, Beck, F-Xhekaj and Mesar)

@@malakaspawt3190 I disagree. Any team can win next year, you are saying Preds because of this year's FA. The teams with the best contract situations are the teams are going to be strong and contenders for years to come, not the ones who might strike it rich for being hot at the right time. ALSO, teams that win FA and make the big splash hardly ever win the Stanley Cup BECAUSE of those bad contracts, and definitely kill themselves for 3 years down the line.
@malakaspawt3190
@malakaspawt3190 2 ай бұрын
@@RB-wg3qm Then we agree to disagree. Any team can win next year, but only ONE team will win. The Habs won't make the playoffs in 2024-25, but they can start becoming a contender in 3-4 years. The Preds took in a bad contract to become a contender right away. It will be worth it but ONLY if they win the SC, nothing less. So basically, you misunderstood my argument about the Preds. I said the Habs have a better situation than the Preds. I didn't say the Preds were going to win the cup, I said if they win the SC, the bad contracts will be worth it, and if they don't people will point the finger at their screw up. If they screwed up, they would kill themselves for more than the next 3 years. I also said that the Athletic were not taking in consideration the future. They were just looking at what contracts are a good bargain or not. The Habs wouldn't kill themselves if they took in Draisaitl. It would be their best chance at a faster return in the playoffs. Plus, instead of putting 12m$ on Draisaitl, they could get 2 players who are worth 7m$ each and pay them 6$ each, as long as those contracts do not go over the 5 years. I made the hockey-exercise, we have enough money to get Draisaitl and keep Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Demidov and Dach.

@@malakaspawt3190 OK, with that part I kind of agree. I don't think we will make the playoffs this year. My goal is to play meaningful games way deeper into the season. If we end up like DET last year, GREAT. More experience for the youngsters, more bad contracts off the books.

@malakaspawt3190

@@KeithGreene-wu7bu I was thinking more of XhekajMesar (when all three are finally in Laval). I made the lines a few weeks ago and put Luke Tuch on the RW of Simoneau, for the reason that we have to wait to see what happens with Beck and Mesar. It's not impossible that they're going to start in the CHL, since both of them are eligible for 1 more year because they turn 21 after January 1st 2025. I was disappointed when we signed some of those veterans. This is what I have right now: LAVAL 2024-25: (Heineman in the NHL replacing RHP) GignacB-Boulet (1st) (the bad thing here is their age. they're taking ice-time from the youth) XhekajTuch (2nd) FarrellNovak (3rd) CondottaPerreault (4th) TrudeauMailloux (1st) EngstromReinbacher (2nd) SevignyJacobs (3rd) Hughes (tandem) Dobes (tandem) HS: Mianscum, Wotherspoon, Arseneau, Beaucage, Hayes. CHL: Mesar, Beck Trois-Rivieres: So what could end up being different? Well, first, it could be Mailloux who makes the Habs roster instead of Hutson. The lines would be a little different in Laval; HutsonReinbacher, EngstromJacobs, TrudeauSevigny. A lot of the Rocket players were signed to 1 year 1way contracts for 2024-25, so they could be sent down to the ECHL. Laval will pay the bill, unless they are loaned to another team, then they would only pay a percentage. Reinbacher, Mailloux (or Hutson), Trudeau and Engstrom (and Sevigny to an extent) need PRIME TIME ICE-TIME! The others defensemen; -Arseneau 32yo; enforcer. He will play a few games if needed, but hopefully he'll be warming the bench. -Jacobs 28yo; decent 3rd (AHL) D pair. He won't be sent down to the ECHL and he won't be healthy scratch often. -Wotherspoon 31yo; decent 3rd (AHL) D pair. He is a little better than Jacobs, but he's older and Jacobs is an RD. -Sevigny 23yo; son of Pierre Sevigny. If they want him to become better, they need to have him on the starting 6. -Hayes 25yo: he's probably below the level of Jacobs and Wotherspoon. He's another plaster. Two of them should be HS. When the Habs trade Savard or Harris, they could choose to switch to 14 forwards 7 defensemen. If they did, I think Barre-Boulet would be the forward to be called up. I think either Heineman or Barre-Boulet will take RHP's spot. Between the two, one of them would replace RHP, and the other would be the first forward call-up in case of a trade or injury. It makes more sense to have Heineman take experience now considering he's younger than Barre-Boulet. And it makes more sense to have Barre-Boulet form a Quebecois line with Dauphin and Gignac. If they trade Savard or Harris around the time RHP comes back, then they can choose to keep both Heineman and RHP. -Novak played in the ECHL in 2023-24 and had the most points of the Trois-Rivieres Lions. He was only like 46th in pts in all the ECHL but it was his rookie season. He's turning 26 in October. He's getting his shot at a better salary in the AHL. Beaucage is 23 and Perreault 22. They will be competing with Novak. It's unclear for Mianscum. He's 21 and got a 2 years contract; 2024-25 2way, 2025-26 1way. The ECHL only have 1 year contracts, so IDK what happens if Laval sends Mianscum down. Either Laval pays him at ECHL value, because it's a 2way contract, or they simply can't send him down bc 2 years contract. Eitherway, he's going to have to prove himself in year one or he might get sent down. Tuch, Xhekaj, Davidson and Simoneau should be those who get the most ice-time (Beck and Mesar also if they are part of the team at some point). I think it's too late for Farrell and Kidney. We won't have much room in the next 1-2 years. Condotta is a good captain so you can keep him around but he's also in that aging group. You never know, maybe it will be Tuch and not Heineman or Barre-Boulet who's take RHP's spot!

The Habs have to get bigger and harder to play against and most of all start teaching how to play playoff hockey now and get coaching help for this season as the way so far they coach will never ever translate into winning playoff hockey you got a good core there now so let's start teaching the core now how to play playoff hockey it will benefit for for down the road let's get bigger and harder to play against let's go and I think you will see Suzuki and Caulfield second line in the future slav and the Russian with Kirby dach will be first line add a player with size and speed and skill to play with Caulfield and Suzuki third line resign Armia to play with Newhook and Roy I would build a whole totally new fourth line but big strong hard to play against the rest let's just trade away bad contracts add in some draft picks or prospects as we have many

@@KeithGreene-wu7bu thanks for your comment. Just curious do you think Dach is a better in FaceOffs hockey sense and coverage opponent players than Suzuki? I don’t think so… How can you teach playoff hockey when they are not in the playoffs yet. 46 of the 82 games last year it was by one goal differential I believe it’s how you build a great team. Stay in the game. They are two years yet before they hit the playoffs. Matheson trade it’s all depends of the defensemen development

@@HockeyNationLiveShow the only reason they were so close last year and some games is goaltending they were outshot out played mostly every game and that is fine as do I think Dack is better no but he is not far behind with his size playing with Slav and the Russian in the future that's a big hard line for any team to play against with a lot of skill and will give Suzuki and Caulfield an easier matchup as for playing playoff hockey looking Florida's coach he said we started teaching playoff hockey from day one and training camp it does not matter if you don't make the playoffs it's teaching now to the young core it will pay dividends in the future
