What an extraordinary talent. Most of that kind of acoustic playing leaves me cold with its samey-ness, but the addition of the vocals just elevates this to another level. A joy to watch.

Yes, Michael hedges stared straight into my eyes leaned over from 2nd row in round rotating stage for a moment, and he played with a great fury, then he was gone. Michael died in car accident in CA that year later at Thanksgiving. Yes he was a guitar legend and I still have his cover of Acoustic Guitar mag in my stand with my music videos. Great playing and singing Jon!

As a guitarist… The likes of Tuck Andres and Tommy Emmanuel were my ‘all times’. Then along came ‘Passionflower’ that, to this day… after 100’s of watching the original video… I still can’t comprehend how. How one person cannot just play in such a unique and dynamic way… with a vocal tone that is as beautiful as it is honest. I can’t imagine a day that re-watching it will ever fail to send the most wonderful kind of shivers down my spine. As an aside…. In my other profession… a friend of mine was releasing his first DVD and emailed Jon for permission to use ‘Passionflower’ as the opening track. Jon not only gave permission, but asked for nothing in return other than a simple mention in the credits. The only other artist to truly cause a shift in my soul was Prince. Thank you, Jon.

Ok, normally when guys play the guitar with crazy gymnastics like the slapping and popping, some of the beauty gets lost in the complexity. And they often don’t sing along with it. This is a whole other level. That Gloria song was amazing. I have never heard of this guy prior to today. I dig it.

At 22mins... I'm not quite sweep picking, but I know a legendary "dad rock" lick or three on electric and can pretty much play all the old candy rat songs. I listened to Passionflower for the first time in about 5-years and the two hand playing in that song clicked and has totally revamped a song I was struggling with. Thanks Jon. Saw him in Glasgow before... a true social media influencer. Edit: Laughed out loud at him meeting Santa.

To add to Jons Guthrie story - He's talking about Guitarist mag competition for guitarist of the year. Dave K won it the first time, and well deserved. Guthrie won it the second year it ran. I sent a tape in - yes, it was that long ago - and got an invite to attend. Ego destroyed right there. There were many fantastic players playing but Guthrie shon unbelievably. I was expecting an audience of cross armed guitarist but everyone that i met that night was positive and supportive of all the players. A good night for sure.

I remember when Jonno Gollow first brought you to play at Peel Centenary Centre all those years ago. We were awed and thought our guitars only thence fit for firewood. You then returned on several occasions and taught us that it actually was possible for us to play in such a way. I can play three of your songs properly now..I'm working on making it four. We must get you back to the Isle of Man soon. B xxx

Does anyone else feel- and I say this with the utmost respect- that he should have some cymbals glued to the insides of his knees? And maybe a kazoo hanging around his neck? LOL- In all seriousness, he plays amazingly, and his stuff is beautiful- but you have to admit, it has that "one man band" vibe going on. Sometimes Mike Dawes has the same vibe- and in a way, they are one-man bands- but their stuff sounds amazing. I wish I could play that beautifully.

Thats really interesting whats he says about a player like Curt Cobain and how hard it is to duplicate someone who hasn´t got the technique down and just goes for it, mistakes and all. I´m gonna go out on a limb and say Hendrix is another one in some perspectives.
