I'd have to disagree a bit, both have there merits and I have a feeling it also depends on what genre of music we enjoy, personally I prefer rock and metal al a Rob, but for blues or Fender tones you might like Lee and Peter more. There is no right or wrong here, just different preferences.

Respect Captain. It takes guts to show it all and not edit in your favor. We're all at different levels in the journey with different goals. I hate guitar players tearing down others or having an air of superiority. You're showing it's never too late to try and add to your trick bag. Anyone who acts like they never had a frozen moment where they have no idea what to do next is full of it. Pete had many of them on his way I'm sure. Refreshing vid.

that's the best part about this series of videos. showing the pain and frustration learning how to get out of your comfort zone and expand your vocabulary. Pete's point was right on when he said KZbin guitarists do hundreds of takes to make sure they get it right. But to the the viewer it's as though they are watching a virtuoso. Nay! they practice that shit for weeks or more to play it off as one take. keep up the struggle because in the end you will become a more well rounded player with an arsenal of musical riffs at your disposal. showing mistakes is honest and will connect more with viewers. if people want to watch perfection they can go wack of to his highness Sir Guthrie Govan hitting that AM6m7b5#11/9/13+4/G over a W chord. it's a sight to behold believe you me. But for the everyman learning to build a vocabulary this is great. keep it up.

Captain- it's great you're so honest. I've been playing for almost 30 years and am about your level and struggle to learn new things. It's easy to get disheartened when I hear people who have been playing for only a few years and they are incredible. So basically it's nice I don't feel alone thanks to your videos. Thank you.

Captain Lee, take it from someone dumb enough to wait till he's nearly 40 to learn to play guitar, you sir rock. I hope one day to be where you are is this thing called music. Keep at it, and keep loving it. If you can do those two things, you will more than master it. Until then, you are my Captain.

Kudos to you for putting your practice up on a public forum! In 20+ years of studying music and playing cello professionally, one of the most important things I came to learn about practice is that it shouldn't sound good. What I mean by that is, we practice things we're bad at in order to become better. If you only just play whatever you're already good at, you'll never improve in the way you want to. Be comfortable with sounding bad at first, and working something up until it sounds good, and then move on to the next thing you want to improve at. Playing and practicing are two very different things, and while I believe every practice session should involve some playing, I don't think that should be your primary focus if you are indeed looking to improve.

I really love when these two guys talks about guitar plaiying and also when they plays some good blues in the middle of that. I'm looking forward for more lessons and hoping some day you'll decide just to put on the net an awesome jam with all the great guys at Andertons showing their all time favourite gear stocked there. C'mon, that already sound awesome! Thanks again for your job guys, and sorry for my not so good english. Cheers from italy.

This series is awesome! As someone having lessons myself to try and up my game at the moment, I have a suggestion for Lee: try to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. It's in that state where it feels frustrating and uncomfortable and embarrassing that your brain is actually learning something new. So try to stick there. Hard to do; I find it near impossible myself. But I try to keep reminding myself in those moments of frustration. cheers

A great video! For years I have felt like I was missing out. The reason is I learned playing by my ear and I always felt inferior because other players knew their theory, their systems, theirs scales and such - not that there's anything wrong with that - hell the majority of people learn music by the sense of sight and not the sense of hearing, but it is nice to see a video validating the people who chose different paths.

It's difficult to target those notes without understanding the chords. It's clear that you are trying to avoid learning that stuff and just focusing on simple things that sound good, but knowing your chords might actually simplify your single notes choices. Really enjoyed the series...love Pete's playing.

I worked in a music shop for a handful of years and taught more lessons (beginner//some intermediate) than I’d like to remember, and the “tone” thing always inevitably comes up, but I remember the moment I set down my standard Fender branded pick and strummed with one of those nylon picks and realizing that THAT made more of a difference than any tone wood comparison I’ve ever heard. Picks are the most underrated source of tone-variation!

Every so often I'll wander back through the Andertons TV catalogue and you;re always guaranteed to get a gem of some kind. The great thing is at this point (he's got so much better more recently) he's much better than me at the blues minor pentatonic stuff, but about the same as me at everything else so I get a lot out of this (and the lessons he does with Justin). Pete makes me laugh as he clearly has the capacity to speak music like a language and doesn't completely get why other people can't, but tries to be nice about it!
