If you look at the A pillar and driver's window glass, they look just like those same parts of a 1969 or 1971 Ford Thunderbird two-door landau ("blind quarter" coupe without rear side windows). Could also be a 1969-1971 Lincoln Mark III, but I doubt it based on the roofline of the car and its proportions. My guess is this was built from a '69 or '71 Thunderbird. Thanks for posting!

It was a '71 Mk III Lincoln Continental according to Barris himself, with a custom chopped roofline, fabricated raised and shaved doors and fenders, and a custom grill.

Actually, its 2 cars in one. If you take a closer look at it and read some of the history behind it, its actually a (yes) 1971 Lincoln Continental Mk 3, but it also is combined with a Mercury as well. Both cars were molded together to turn into this terrifying beast. And yes, its very infamous 😁

But the specific roofline would be the defining factor. From the Mercury Marauder? Only the Mark III had the 460, the others the 429. The sides are redone, the tail section may be Mercury, obviously no hump... 🤔

It is also an all Steel replica, NOT fiberglass. Built in the 1980s. Has a TCI automatic C6 gearbox with manual valve body. The 9 1/4 Ford rear axle incorporates a Detroit Locker limited-slip differential fitted with 3.89:1 gears. This Car was up for auction in late 2006. That is where the details come from.

This car is listed on an insurance database as a Lincoln Continental MK3. And on an auction site it was listed a 1969 model with a V8 bored out to 490cu (8.0 litres). Pretty good replica.

I think you have 2 cars confused. "The Car" was a Lincoln Continental. The Ford Futura was a concept car that for some reason, Ford sold to Barris for $1. He used it to turn it into "The Batmobile" from the original series, since he needed a Batmobile on 2 weeks notice, and that's what he had on hand to work with.

@@Remix2366 No you're wrong, my uncle has or had an antique 1972 Charger and got into an accident with someone, the person had a 2018 Honda Accord and their car got demolished, luckily the air bags saved the other person, my uncle's car got damaged but just a few dents here and there, nothing compared to the other guy's car, I don't think you know your cars dude, 50s 60s and 70s cars are far superior to todays cars, technology/computer wise, they aren't, but body wise they are.

Always love this Car. Looks pretty damn authentic. Don't know if this is the same car, but there was someone called Eddie Wallbanger in Custom Car magazine back in late 90's who used to drag race 'The Car', probably someone diffferent though. Anyway, I hope this guy has stuck a really big V8 in, and an air horn, possibly from a US train, to make it authentic. Imagine this fucker tailgating you out there on the M3, horn blazing and V8 revving!

Its a replica based on a lincoln, built by streatham coachworks in the mid eighties, used to have "the car by scr" written on the boot lid. I remember seeing it at the chelsea cruise. The last time i sas it was at a custom show at hickstead near brighton 'bout 1986/87. Had indicators ect fitted to be road legal....

"THE CAR"makes Christine look like a big joke, especially when the Caterpillar bulldozer gets done crushing it up at the end of the movie."The CAR"would have never got crushed like that at all,it would have crushed that bulldozer like a toy!!.
