Wow, this is so informative. I have been dealing with uneven skin tone for the longest time. The parts of my body that are seldom exposed are fairer than the exposed part. It all started during my teen age. It didn't seem to be an issue initially, until people started asking questions. When other ladies see my upper body or thighs, they often ask questions like 'why is your tummy and thigh this fair, while other part of your body is dark', my response is often 'it's sunburn', even though I really don't know. I often feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when asked such questions. I sometimes referred to myself as brown (chocolate) skin or caramel skin. I'm presently using a SPF inclusive body lotion suited for caramel skin tone, but I've not really seen much improvement, there is still a huge contrast. The most confusing part is, I'm rarely under the sun lately, so I can't give the excuse of sunburn atm. I really would love to go back to having an even skintone like I did when I was younger. This is what prompted me to start searching for solutions, only to find out, I didn't know my real complexion all these while.

This video is very informative,thank you! I think the issue is identifying the root cause,there is generally an obsession with a brighter skin tone whether lighening or whitening and i think the obsession is what got us here. I wont lie i look my best when i am brighter,so does a lot of women so i dont blame them when they look around for skin lightening products to enhance their skin presentation....This skin lightening obsession or should i call it pandemic has been here since time immemorial and i think it stems from the fact that a lighter/fair/whiter skin tone is generally more attractive,this issue is even deeper than just appearances,light skinned women even enjoy more priviledges in the society,i have even heard of a lady that handpicked her bridal train and she was particular about their skin tone,body size etc... Women are not necessarily deceiving themselves,they know what they want,and they always want products that tend to lighten their skintone and also preserve it especially the ones that are fair already,they do not want to get darker...hence the obsession over skin lightening products... There is a massive and incessant demand for these products,hence the number of skin care "experts" in the market today

People usually like what they associate themself with so the opp is usually bad news. I'm a black girl but my complexion is pretty light. I however like identifying myself as a black girl esp now as I am among white & brown people, and I wish that whenever I would tell anyone 'oh I'm just a black girl from Kenya' that my skin would shine through in dark glory but that's not the case. If I was deluded & thought I have dark skin & someone told me 'I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you're caramel' they would be right. I started using medic 5.5 lotion and blemish care vitamin c body wash and honestly I don't like the result. I can see my veins even though I'm not seeing any black knuckles but I'm sure I'm not a fair person. I've never been. I'm using lotion peau de lune, BHA cleanser, bright and clear cream neutrogena rapid clear, advanced clinicals biore UV for my face routine but believe me my face is still bad. More acnes everyday. I thought about switching to Vaseline Cocoa or Olay. I'm finished
