The Carbon Ninja Part 1: Making a Carbon fiber fuel tank.

I'm documenting the transformation of a crashed out Kawasaki ninja 250 that I found on craigslist for very cheap into a cool stylish café racer. Part 1 is about how I made my fuel tank from scratch in Carbon fiber. Sound kinda sucks, I apologize for that.

Bump for the algorithm! I’ve got a 99 ZG1000 with a holy tank (rust) and found this video. I think it might be cheaper to get a eBay gas tank but learning a new skill beats the eBay cost.

Awesome work, I own about 4 of these 250 ninjas'. There are quite a few of them still out there. How is the graphite/epoxy coating holding up?

How long did your epoxy/carbon powder sealer work? Epoxy will breakdown with constant contact with fuel and fuel vapors so I’m curious to see how long it lasted. I’m looking to do a similar build, but I’ll be using carbon/Kevlar and Kevlar instead so the tank won’t shatter if I wreck

How did you get ride of the bubbles and make it look good in the end? Also apparently carbon fibre isn't good for tanks as they leak is that true

Very interesting, how did you glue the bottom carbon fiber part to the top part? I am strugling to find a way which has a neat finish.

Well the bottom was made separetedly. Once I demolded it I had to trim it to fit the top part. I had cut out the foam a little bit to make the bottom fit. Then I clued them together and reinforced the seen with a lay up.

So you just overlapped the layer that joined the top with the bottom? That thing looks great, man.

I started making part 2 a while back but i kinda got over it. I'll probably make another video on how it turned out. I modified the subframe and made a carbon seat cowl to give it a proper cafe racer look. I might sell it to but a bigger bike and then I'll go crazy on it.

I love Cafe's. I have a '83 Yamaha XJ750 Seca with a YICS engine. I built it into a cafe racer with R6 throttle body injection and microsquirt controlling it. I currently have a frozen valve though.
