Exactly what I was looking for, particularly how to effectively use the choke, and to know if it is operating as it should. Thanks

In physics, the “Venturi effect” is like, if you put a straw in a glass of water and blasted your air compressor nozzle over/above the straw, it would pull the water up the straw.

And the reason that happens is as a volume of air moves from a space of larger area through a space of smaller area, the velocity increases and causes an area of lower pressure. The resulting condition of lower pressure is what causes the liquid to rise up the emulsion tube, through the jet and into the air stream and on it's way to the combustion chamber.

Hey t-mike I have a 67’ evinrude fastwin 18 hp. I am having trouble getting spark. I have a new coil ordered because I believe it was leaking. I also believe the points are out of place. They don’t appear to be damaged. Do you have any suggestions or a video of a similar magneto group? Thanks
Hey mike i have a question, for my 1957 fd12 18hp. Why would fuel be leaking out the front of the carb even after a rebuild. New float and float needle. I cant figure it out

If I have a Tillotson carb that I rebuilt (I’m no expert), and my symptoms are 1) can’t pull-start without starting spray 2) dies when going down to half throttle 3) adjusting mixture doesn’t seem to do very much… does that sound like carb problem or compression/rings problem?

There could be multiple reasons why it does not run. I by no means am an expert on outboard motors. I have been a heavy/light truck, auto, small engine mechanic for over 40 years. Here are things I would look at. I have to ask presume you are using the correct fuel to oil ratio and the proper type of oil 1- Did it run before you rebuilt the carburetor? Did you thoroughly clean and blow out all jets and passages with compressed air to make sure they are clean? 2- possible vacuum leak where carburetor bolts to manifold/reed valve block. 3-Have you done a compression test on all cylinders and is it good? 4- has the ignition system been tested and a set up properly? 5- correct spark plug? After running at a speed it runs at, pull out the spark plug and inspect it. This should tell how the engine is running- too rich (black and sooty) or too lean (very clean and white).
