Injured in junior, Shea Weber was sitting in the stands watching a game vs. the Vancouver Giants and asked my sister out on a date. She said no because he was "ugly". I remind her at least once per year since for the last 22 odd years how disappointed I was in her.

My dad was a season ticket holder for the Nashville Predators from 05-06 to 18-19 season. He would sit behind the home net, so he could watch Weber and Rinne play for two periods. My dad would marvel at Weber's defensive game, and would often tell me look at how he plays without the puck. My first jersey was a gold Weber jersey.

Shame they only played sparingly together in 16-17. Weber spent most of his time with Emelin and Markov with Petry. 17-18 and 18-19, Weber's most frequent pairing was Mete. What a disaster by Julien and Bergy.

Shannon you don't make many mistakes but it is a tragic one to make about Weber's last year. The Habs run in the 20-21 playoffs was marked by Weber and Price fighting through crippling injuries (not hyperbole as the next years prove) and willing the team to the finals. The impact of losing Weber and Price was seen the next year. I was a huge Subban fan. I thought trading him ranked with the Roy trade as the most idiotic in Canadiens' history. However once I saw what Weber brought to the team in sheer determination and leadership I knew Montreal won the trade. The level of respect shown to Weber is illustrated in a story about joining the team. Brendan Gallagher was being interviewed about the newcomers to the Habs. The reporter went through the list and Gallagher supplied the nicknames the team gave them. The reporter then asked Gallagher what the team called Weber. "Sir" was his reply.

As a Nashville fan I was never a fan of him as Captain, but thats different from his play on the ice. He got screwed out of a Norris when they gave it to Lindstom as a going away preset rather than who was the best Dman that year. In an interview around his retirement David Poile said of all the trades he had done it was one of the few he didn't really like. He said it was purely a business decision. Oddly enough the things I remember are things like when we played the AV's and he wound up for a PP slapper and the entire team headed for each board, none of them were going to stand in front of that thing. It was honestly one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Then there was the beast mode plays where guys would make him mad and he would just man handle them. Zetterberg getting his head slammed into the boards in the playoffs is a good example. He was a great player to watch, but there are always mixed emotions with him. He was a Pred, but lots of us old time fans have that tainted because of the contract situation he put a franchise in that was holding on by a thread at the time.

Great video IMO the Habs easily won the trade due to the intangibles and leadership that Weber brought. They essentially removed a cancer and polarizing figure from their room and added a natural leader. I’ll always remember Toews being quoted around how happy he was that Weber was leaving the division… completely feared and respected blue liner.
