The Carneddau

Monday 28th March 2022
This was my second walk from this trip to Snowdonia and the first of two walks I was determined to complete. I drove a short distance from Betws-y-Coed, along the A5 and in to the Ogwen Valley. Free parking is available in many places and I soon found myself walking up in to the Carneddau - across the valley from Tryfan and the Glyderau.
I would scrambled up to Pen yr Ole Wen. Walk the ridge to Carnedd Dayfydd and then, continue on to Carnedd Llewelyn, the highest point. A steep descent would lead me down towards a reservoir and soon on to the A5 again.

Olly, a beautiful day to be out the mountains☀ Loved that rocky landscape and what fantastic views up on that ridge👍 The mountains will always be there (in our lifetime) and good to listen to what the body tells us👍 That was a steep final descent and I am sure that road was a welcome sight😊 Stunning shot at the end as the plane went past👍

Thanks again, Gerry. I saw and heard a few bombers pass throughout the day. I'm sure locals are used to it. For me, it was a bit surreal. But I've had similar experiences in other parts of the UK. Catching up Olly. Hey tough going on the way up but great views of Tryfan. I agree what a way to spend your day flying planes in the mountains. Walking them though is top rate. This sure was a great mountain and hey with no fog. Glad you were intent on relaxing in your digs and on the hills. I mean they will be there next year as you say. Well, good going. Hey Mark, I'm glad and appreciate that you're able to catch up with this one. I can't imagine exploring this landscape any way other than on foot. Nowhere to 'get to'. No need to rush or fly by. @@WalksWithOlly Yeah, got a couple more to go Olly. I don't notice everything - been busy anyhow. Ah, these places have got to be explored on foot. Prefer that over mountain bike. I'm sure I'll love the area. I will have a good one. Trying to decide as to where to swim. Peace.

Ah, it's a shame about those views for you. MetOffice had predicted fog to spoil my walk but it never happened. Some now say that MWIS is more reliable for mountain forecasts. Hope you have a good weekend and all the best.

@@WalksWithOlly MWIS has always been my first choice. They can lean on the pessimistic side but that isn't a bad thing.
