Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "(They Long to Be) Close to You", "For All We Know", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.

Karen was the best female vocalist of all time. She had perfect pitch. Literally. And she was an amazing drummer. Most of their early stuff was with her behind her drum kit. That's where she was more comfortable. Everyone who has come after, and before for that matter, fall short. She was unique. Thanks for the reaction, Devin. They did not do a bad song, at least that I have heard. And I grew up in the 60's and 70's.

My favorite female singer ever the great Karen carpenter I was 19 when she sadly died
@thebyrd4332 жыл бұрын
This is such a beautiful song about marriage and it is timeless. Karen Carpenter brought so much beauty into our lives with her music, but that wasn't all. Her life brought us beauty, but for some her passing brought salvation. Until Karen Carpenter died, eating disorders were not acknowledged as a problem, and many people didn't even know they existed. It took the tragic death of a young celebrity to finally open people's eyes to the dangers of anorexia. What a shame things had to go so far before we became aware, but God does have a plan, and sometimes Our Father must give us the harsh news in the only way we will truly understand.

Top of the World has always been one of my favorite Carpenters tunes. It's got a lot more country flavor than other songs. In fact, when the Carpenters performed it at the White House during the Nixon administration, Karen couldn't resist letting out a couple of "yee-haws"!! Lol. I also really like Hurting Each Other, their version of Ticket To Ride, Rainy Days and Mondays, It's Going to Take Some Time, Only Yesterday, Yesterday Once More....just to name a few!!!

This had to be a music video because there were no mics. Also, the carpenters were Richard and Karen.probably because other instruments were used in the making these others were added to or some may know another reason the were here. Before the carpenters there was a country duet couple, husband and wife where the artist sang sound with sound live with their background voices recorded into the guitar amp brought in when the guitar player wanted them to. But, Richard and Karen made it popular and made it work as a production ….they sang with their own background voices layered and layered and they too were playing instruments live, her drum and him piano. This was a marvel on tv at the time. The carpenters were first to do a lot of things. They were soft rock and had been for a while. They were the first to do a soft rock ballad with a hard rock guitar solo. They got way a lot of criticism for it but look what that act of bravery has done for rock for years to come. I miss them. Thanx for the react Devin.

Karen's voice was a unique gift. And she didn't want to be a singer! She liked being in the back, hiding behind her drum set. But her brother encouraged her to sing lead, and thank goodness he did. The Carpenters were out of step with most of 1970s pop, and that's one reason their songs haven't dated a bit.
