I'm the trumpet player in this video. Tori is indeed an amazingly talent vocalist! Thank you for your wonderful review, Fil, and the comments from subscribers on this page. Huge kudos to the other collaborators on this project: Ynping Mak (violins), Clayton Wisenant (bass), Yoann Palacio (drums), and James Wilkas (everything, including being the glue that holds us together).

A less talented singer could still make these observations, but the ability to reproduce fair approximations of what the vocalist is actually doing, is something that really sets Fil's videos apart. Tori Holub has a truly wonderful voice. She did an amazing job with her rendition of Karen Carpenter's song like no other has been able to achieve. However, God had blessed Karen Carpenter with the most unique and magical voice. The wealth of range, tone, control, and quality was only the beginning of her gift. What made Karen Carpenter so exceptional was the deep, deep emotions she communicated with, which we later learned was based on so much pain. Others may have written the lyrics, but only Karen Carpenter could deliver the songs with an everlasting impact that instantly captures your heartstrings and takes hold of your soul.

If a gun was put to my head, I’d have to go with Karen’s voice because of her prominent clarity and top end on her mid and low range vocal - but Tori does a great job notwithstanding. You’ll not get anyone else as close to Karen as this.

I admit that at first she sounded so much like Karen Carpenter that I thought it may be a lip-synch fake. As she sang on I did hear the differences but she is emulating Karen's tone and delivery almost perfectly. 🐦 They are making beautiful music by ear just as it has been done for millennia before computers were invented. 😻 No gremlins in this music.

@@willarth9186I think it's a bit of both. She is a major Carpenters/KC fan and so she probably can't help but want to emulate, but at the same time I also agree that it is her natural voice. How serendipitous the congruity with her talent and quite unique in the similarity!

If you play this version and the original version at the same time and synch them up (it’s easy to do), they are virtually identical. Perhaps completely identical. Her main performance looks unedited which means word for word, note for note, beat for beat she nailed everything Karen Carpenter sang. I don’t know how thats possible.

This singer not only has a similar timbre and range, but has a similar sense of phrasing. Like Karen, Tori manages to be very precise in pitch and tone while never seeming mechanical.

OMG! I'm breathless. I started singing at three years old to...Karen Carpenter. I was so sad when she left us. Her voice is..I can't even! It's beautiful, warm. It wraps you up and takes you "there". Thank you so much for introducing me to her. I'd not heard of her. It's clouds and velvet. It's that first kiss and first crush. I'm in my 50's now, but my first marriage (at 17) was the song I walked down the aisle to. She's a dream. I love the reality of her voice. I don't want perfection. It doesn't sit right in my ear. Robotic, stiff, predictable. I just don't feel that sort of thing. Anyway-thanks! I love her! PS: don't think I didn't catch that smile and your face absolutely light up. I think many of us did the same!
