I'm the trumpet player in this video. Tori is indeed an amazingly talent vocalist! Thank you for your wonderful review, Fil, and the comments from subscribers on this page. Huge kudos to the other collaborators on this project: Ynping Mak (violins), Clayton Wisenant (bass), Yoann Palacio (drums), and James Wilkas (everything, including being the glue that holds us together).

It's rare to see a YT presenter that was having so much fun doing a technical "deep dive" analysis as I saw here. For my part, courtesy of the almighty algorithm I became aware of Tori Holub just slightly over 24 hours ago (one might say "Only Yesterday" 😉) and...Tori has hit the "uncanny valley" (in a positive sense rather than the more typical definition of the term) almost spot on. Her singing is so amazingly similar to Karen's, but just enough different to still be distinctively her own. Well done, liked & subscribed. 👍

Tori Holub has a truly wonderful voice. She did an amazing job with her rendition of Karen Carpenter's song like no other has been able to achieve. However, God had blessed Karen Carpenter with the most unique and magical voice. The wealth of range, tone, control, and quality was only the beginning of her gift. What made Karen Carpenter so exceptional was the deep, deep emotions she communicated with, which we later learned was based on so much pain. Others may have written the lyrics, but only Karen Carpenter could deliver the songs with an everlasting impact that instantly captures your heartstrings and takes hold of your soul.

If my eyes were closed I might have said that's Karen Carpenter. I have very good voice recognition generally but would waiver on this. Wow this is amazing. I do think there's a slightly fuller deeper rounded out tonal quality in Karen Carpenter's voice.

Agreed. Knowing it is not Karen Carpenter, I can detect very subtle differences. But if I were not paying close attention, I might mistake it for the original voice as well. This singer not only has a similar timbre and range, but has a similar sense of phrasing. Like Karen, Tori manages to be very precise in pitch and tone while never seeming mechanical.

Wonderful analysis much appreciated! Tori is one of the finest vocalists that I will now follow. I would not call this a cover! This is a tribute or in fact a rediscovery of the Carpenter song. Karen will never be replaced, but Tori has brought her to life again in a way that no other single that I have heard can do as well.

I've heard Tori sing this song before. She has a great voice! Although I would never mistake her for Karen. There are some noticeable differences. If you listen to some songs she's done that aren't Carpenters' song, you can hear her unique sound, and she sounds great on those too.

Fil, the only thing I could add to all of this regarding this amazing young singer is that one of those magical things about Karen was that she sang with such joy and you can feel her happiness in her voice as she would phrase the lyrics, and Tori exemplifies that quality here as well. I definitely will check out their Channel and great analysis as usual!

Her brother, Richard, would have been impressed, I think. I wonder if he’d be knocked over backwards by her wide-open vibrato that sets itself so comfortably and rolls so beautifully within that rumbling, rich KC (now Tori) timbre. …like caramel pouring onto a melting, soft-serve ice cream sundae.

OMG! I'm breathless. I started singing at three years old to...Karen Carpenter. I was so sad when she left us. Her voice is..I can't even! It's beautiful, warm. It wraps you up and takes you "there". Thank you so much for introducing me to her. I'd not heard of her. It's clouds and velvet. It's that first kiss and first crush. I'm in my 50's now, but my first marriage (at 17) was the song I walked down the aisle to. She's a dream. I love the reality of her voice. I don't want perfection. It doesn't sit right in my ear. Robotic, stiff, predictable. I just don't feel that sort of thing. Anyway-thanks! I love her! PS: don't think I didn't catch that smile and your face absolutely light up. I think many of us did the same!
