Benjamin Orr the singer in the song was a kind and beautiful soul. Sadly he passed away at the age of 53 on Oct 3rd 2000 due to pancreatic cancer. He was a good man...miss him dearly!

No one at the time sounded like The Cars. We called their style “New Wave”. Saw them in ‘79 at Arrowhead Stadium. Benjamin Orr is a great vocalist & bassist, love them!

Ehhh.... almost all! Don't get me wrong, it's a great album, and side two is awesome (especially the "Moving in Stereo" / "All Mixed Up" end); but side one has two fillers ("I'm in Touch With Your World" and "Don't Cha Stop") which are fine, but nobody plays on the radio. Again, I'm not putting the album down; that's seven songs which are great.

Everyone I knew thought they were British when they first came onto the scene. I was really into concerts, music, and backstage passes. Ive met some of the greats….but always wished I had met Ben. His voice thrills me, draws me in, and made me fall in lust with him. I still feel the same way about him today….when I hear “Bye Bye Love” I have to stop whatever I’m doing and listen with every fiber of my being. 🕊️RIP Ben, you are missed🕊️

Love it when the 'fro comes out, Jamel 😆🤘. The Cars are soooo awesome. Benjamin Orr wasn't just a pretty boy; he served in the Army (was drafted in 1965, I think) and was very patriotic. Did a lot for others. He wasn't pretentious or conceited or anything like that, which makes him so much hotter. The boy couldn't help it. 🔥

Funny story about the Cars, my buddy and I cruised out to California back in, I believe it was 78, we ended up staying at a Hotel in Santa Monica right across from the Civic Center. We saw a bunch of ads and info "The Cars" and I remember asking some young skater punk what it was all about, and he said he thought it was a concert. We didn't think much of it because who would name a band the cars. That night there was so much noise coming from across the street as we watched people leaving from the concert, the cars songs were playing on the radio, and everyone was talking about them as we cruised back to Arizona... the Band went right to the top of the charts.

I was 12 years old and in the 6th grade when this came out. In fact, The Cars was my cousin Tommy's favorite band. We're the same age. The summer before starting 7th grade, we went to Tennessee for a family reunion. My cousin Tommy had a Cars t-shirt that I "borrowed" and brought back to Kansas with me. He didn't know what happened to that t-shirt until right before Christmas last year; he just thought he'd lost it! 🤣 I STILL LOVE THE CARS!!! Thanks for sharing Jamel! ~ APRIL LIPKE

I've heard it said more than once that their debut album could have been a greatest hits album for anyone else. I was a sophomore in college when this came out. A guy from the Boston area in our dorm gave us a listen. It was solid from the first listen. No question.

I saw the cars in concert at Mile High Stadium, in 1979 or 1980. It was an all day concert with The Cars, Heart, Ted Nugent and i think UFO. They were superb! 💕

The Cars were one of my favorite bands back in the day. Then saw them again live at the SXSW music festival in 2008. This was their first single and first hit song. Unfortunately the driving force behind the Cars, Rik Ocasek, died a few years ago.
