If you're into the instrumental tunes, another great band to check out is Spyro Gyra. They're a fusion jazz band from the 70s/80s with a unique mix of saxophone and steel drum sounds. _"Morning Dance"_ was their most famous hit, but they have a lot of good ones. Enjoy! ;-)

The AWB was a Scottish funk & R&B band that had some great soul & disco hits between 74-80. They had some good songs such as "When Will You Be Mine", "Let's Go Around Again" & "Cut The Cake". But the instrumental song "Pick Up The Pieces" in 1975 was their biggest hit.

This was the first song at my Catholic school dance where I got enough courage to ask a girl to do The BUMP with me! It was the latest dance craze. After we started dancing Sister Cora said it was inappropriate! As she marched towards us our Pastor Fr. Simms scolded her and told her to leave us alone and sit down!

Jamal, greetings from Scotland, home of the Average White Band! I was a young man when this came out, and it seemed so unusual to have a bunch of guys from Dundee (not exactly the cultural hub of the world) funkin it up like the best of them! Even the band name sounded deliberately dull, yet there were all us young rockers and metalheads absolutely entranced by this total groove.

I'm going to assume that this was a much later concert because the original song came out in the Spring of 1975. Everyone I knew loved the song, especially the bassline. It was very danceable, and even though I was way too young to get into clubs back then, many of them had a Teen Night, where young teens could come and experience the club. No alcohol was served on those Teen Nights and they were usually held on Sunday nights, a school night. This song always got played at least once a night. HUGE Number One hit for the AWB.

This is cool. I hadn't seen the live version before. This song was big back in the 70s. The guitarist in the kilt, Hamish Stewart, played in Paul McCartney's band in the early 90s. I saw him with Macca in 1990 and 1993. You can also see him play with Paul on their MTV Unplugged episode from back then. He and Robbie McIntosh, from the Pretenders were a part of that band back then and were featured on a couple of Paul's albums from that time period.

I saw the notation at the bottom of the screen that said, "FM Simulcast". Many of the younger generations won't know what that means. Back in the day, if a good concert was going to be on tv, they'd simulcast it on FM radio so that you could hear it in stereo over your Sansui, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. home stereo and really rock the house!

I remember this song from when it came out. It's aged well, and I actually like it a lot better now than I did then. Amazingly, I didn't know these guys were white. I assumed they were a black group and called themselves "an average white band" to be funny and sarcastic. I realize now how naive this was. At the very least the record company would have told them that the name needed to be changed because they might be needlessly alienating potential white fans. Maybe this naivete wasn't so shocking since I was 14 at the time. But I'm still amazed I made this mistake. I'm probably not the only one who did, though!

As a 70s teen AWB was big in the disco scene in Kiwiland, Cut The Cake was my favourite. Funk was the genre of choice in our household as my older brother represented NZ at the World Disco Dancing Champs (which can be found on youtube) back then. It seems that a Kiwi band is reviving that genre in our uniquely laid back Kiwi Chill Factor/ Checkout the live studio versions (Roundhead or Massey Studios) of L.A.B - In The Air, My Brother, Yes I Do, Natural, Proud Man. No need to react to them unless you want too Jamal. Just wanted to give you a taste of our Kiwi vibe and a heads up as L.A.B will be doing their first, but hopefully not their last tour in the US very soon, so didn't want you to miss the opportunity to see them. I posted this before, but I think I need to put it up here... Most of these same guys were at the 2014 Drum Off to induct Ferrone into the drummer's walk of fame, though Hamish didn't wear his kilt. There's some good video of this jam. They commented that there were more former members of AWB on stage than in the current version on tour. What made it even more epic was Ferrone had tricked an old friend of his that had not performed in front of an audience in 20 years to sit in with them. He was lurking in the shadows at the edge of the stage, so Ferrone stopped the jam to introduce everyone, including, 4 days before his 65th birthday, Mr. Steve Perry. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp_EeYSmo7qesNE
