I was actually familiar with Hommell cars before they were eventually featured in Gran Turismo 4, but there's a bit of a story to it. All the way back in the very early 2000s, probably around the time GT3 came out, I had the opportunity to visit a museum in the French town of Lohéac, called the Manoir de l'Automobile. This museum is the property of Michel Hommell, and multiple Hommell cars are on display there (among many, many, many others), including the playable Berlinette RS Coupe and two prototypes of it, but also some of the versions you mentioned, such as the Berlinette Echappement, the Barquette, and even the RS2. Having returned to the museum in 2019 and in 2023, I'm happy to confirm they are all still there in nearly pristine condition. If you ever find yourself in this corner of France, I can't recommend visiting it enough, this is quite possibly the only way to see a Hommell in real life relatively conveniently.

@chucku009 ай бұрын
@@purwantiallan5089 Nope. Berlinette : French word for a small sports coupé (similar to the Italian "berlinetta"). Funnily enough, while deciding a team name/identity for my 2020 MyTeam career mode; Gran Turismo gave me the idea of reviving Chaparral as an F1 team. (The influence was particularly from the 2X VGT with some influence from the historically legendary Chaparral's like the 2J, 2D and the Indycar championship winning 2K) After winning 40+ Grand Prix's and 4 Drivers and 3 Constructor's Titles and loving the pure insanity from Jim Hall's innovations. I always wondered how the devs were finding those cars at all, especially back in the 90's. They probably had a special department that was going through foreign magazines to find what they can. It's funny how, because Gran Turismo doesn't simulate engine malfunctions, cars that are considered unreliable IRL are able to shine in-game. The Minolta 88C-V is a great example as you show, since it's 50kg lighter than most other Group C's without any real downside. The tyre wear issue can be fixed by lengthening the gears or driving in MT, since 1st and 2nd gear are pretty much unusable when it has over 900hp. The FD RX-7's are top-class JDM's as well in a world where you're not forced to deal with rotary shenanigans. By the way, to give a bit of insight into the V16T, GT4 absolutely doesn't do it justice. Cars in GT4 follow a general rule of "newer = better", so PD gave the V16T far worse grip stats than, say, the Zonda's or Esprit's. It has a few weird quirks as well: it has 0 / 20 non-adjustable downforce and the rear tyres are much wider than the front, so while it does have a 40:60 weight distribution, it feels very strange in corners because it both understeers and oversteers depending on the situation. This is all on top of it weighing 1361kg after reductions, so yeah, it's a boat with some not-so-ideal braking distances, and tuning can only really do so much to help it.

Whenever you think gear ratios are unusuable, use these numbers: 1 1.15 1.35 1.65 2.1 2.5 And then adjust the final ratio until it's good for the car's top speed. This way the car will have a MotoGp-esque ratio where 1st is really long and usable with all the other gears keeping you in the highest part of your RPMs. If the car has 7 gears the top gear should be like 0.95 or so.
@TeaKanji10 ай бұрын
@@DanArnets1492 Those numbers are going to be different for every car, especially if you mess with the auto slider. There's an easier way to get those close gear ratios though, if you make final as short as possible, set auto to 1, stretch out the gears with final again, then arrange the individual ratios so 1st and 2nd are left, 5th and 6th are right, and 4th is 3/4's to the right. For the 88C-V, that would be: final to 5.500, then auto to 1 then final to 2.600, then set individual gears to 2.882, 2.061, 1.685, 1.390, 1.159, 0.976.

I've always wondered if Polyphony Digital would ever make a bus or train game in the same way. Iconic vehicles and routes of the past, dazzling graphics, phenomenal love for the content they make, no DLC... But this is GT3/GT4 era PD I'm talking about here. I wonder if it still exists.

I couldn’t ever not giggle a bit, driving the xj13 in gtsport’s historic races. There’s only one in the whole world, but here you are driving it. And four of your AI opponents have one as well. I ended up owning three :) I know, there is an accurate replica around. Tiff Needell drove one once.

I think you should make a video about the impact of Gran Turismo on the automotive industry. There's the Vision Gran Turismo cars (and the fact that those cars previewed the design language that those manufacturers would later use like the Bugatti Vision GTs design being used for the Chiron and the Mercedes Vision GTs design being used by the AMG GT etc), there were those unique demos of Gran Turismo that were used at Motor Shows and car dealerships to show off cars from specific manufacturers (that you talked about in your previous video) to prospective buyers, there's the fact that Nissan hired Polyphony Digital to design the multifunction display of the Nissan GTR and there's the GT Academy that led to people like Jann Mardenborough to race for Nissan in real-life motorsports. There's probably more that I don't know about that you could definitely cover in a video. It's amazing how a video game franchise about a particular industry could have such an effect on that very industry. The only other franchise I can think of with a similarly large impact is the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series.

How about a video about Gran Turismo's concept cars, and how they turned out to be today It's always intriguing seeing cars that is quite common nowadays depicted as futuristic concept in the 2005 game, for example Suzuki Swift, Mazda 6, Audi R8, and GTR R35

I originally found out about the Tommykaira ZZ Gen. 2 from Tomica - the JP Die Cast cars - and to find out that its first generation exists in GT just makes me love this quirky little JP Elise boi even more, the Tommykaira ZZ came in 2 colors from Tomica - red and yellow. I had the yellow one and it's still sold at my local toy store despite it not being made anymore, i got the car along with another goofy boi that sadly isn't in GT i think - that being the Toyota IQ casting from '09.
