That's because Knowles isn't a serial killer. He's a spree killer. The only thing a serial killer and a spree killer have in common are the multiple victims. Serial killers have the patterns, signatures, and cooling-off periods. Spree killers just don't. Spree killers kill people in a relatively short time (compared to serial killers) with no rhyme and reason. Their goal is just to kill. So Knowles wouldn't be known as a serial killer.

Thank you for saying we shouldn’t rate trauma, Simon. I think rating trauma is dangerous because even if trauma doesn’t affect one person a certain way, it doesn’t mean it won’t affect another person that way. And also the best thing to do when a trauma survivor talks to you is to just listen. RIP to the victims in this case and I hope their families are able to find peace and move forward and heal.

The other flip side of the coin is ... When you start rating trauma, the victims may feel like their experience is not "as bad, thus not as important or they feel that they will be judged because speaking out about their experiences seems trivial in comparison. as the experience of others. So they don't come forward. However the information is just relevant and has the possibility to reveal more or unknown information to the case and that opportunity being missed is a huge disadvantage. Also when it comes to seeking help for the trauma you endured. If Traumatic experiences ranked. It can cause peoples individual experiences to loose validity in comparison and people can start to feel that they are unworthy of help, that they are overreacting or their experiences are not even "that bad" because other people had it worse than them. All traumatic experiences are equally worth seeking help to process and work through if it is negatively affecting your life after. Everyone deserves acknowledgement that what they experienced was traumatic. That how they are feeling afterwards is valid and deserves to be heard, spoken of and steps to begin healing from.

He knew about the First Nation residential schools in Canada, but not that the problem was more widespread. Unfortunately, abuse, neglect and corruption has long been rife in private schools, orphanages, juvenile detention centers, etc, and is not a problem isolated to either a particular culture or targeted at a particular ethnicity. Children are vulnerable, and there are too many who exploit that vulnerability. Children are prone to testing boundaries and not being able to communicate or control their needs...and there are too many people who will punish any "disobedience" in the harshest manner possible. When a layer of dehumanization due to racism is added to that, it only gets worse.

@@annetidwell4807 not everything is a trauma but many victims of trauma often experience others minimizing their trauma because some people still don’t understand trauma and the affect it can have or are just plain ignorant. So it’s best not to rate trauma, as that can make someone that experiences a trauma, if they feel it’s minimized, not come forward and/ or cope with that trauma. I think an episode on the Chicago Strangler could be interesting - your writers could do a good job telling an unsensationalised account of the story. There are ~75 murders and the police and the public are divided on whether or not they are the work of a lone killer. He supposedly first truck in 1999 and has been active up to 2018 and, as far as I'm aware, the case isn't too widely known. Thank you for your work.

Lots of coincidences this week, Simon bringing up the thing about dreams made me pause and type this comment. Just a couple of hours before this episode I read that Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball) died, then I remembered I dreamt about Dragon Ball GT last night and I don't remember much of it except that I didn't like it because it was fan made production and not written by Akira Toriyama. RIP Legend. And now back to today's video..

Hey CC basement crew: 1) I LOVE YOUR CONTENT!!! 2) Can someone research and script the toy box killer????? Just found out about him on another true crime channel but can't handle all the psychological babble from the head shrinks. All filler no filling is what I got from it. I don't have to tell you as you are well aware and handle subject matter so thoroughly but it's chilling! Definitely not a CSI or Dexter episode and Simon might need a time out at some point! Lastly: would love to hear a script read for Dr. Satan. I mentioned it before but you guys put out SO much material it might have got buried in the works. Simon has covered the black out killer during the London air raids and the serial killer in dictatorship Germany during WWII, and this fits in quite well with the era! Again I love all the writing, editing, corresponding, and Simon's tangents...am a huge fan and supporter of his KZbin attempt at global domination. That said I'm also an activist for the #freethebasementcrew! Even if it only means installing a window, 30 minutes of outside activities, and a lifetime supply of magic the gathering cards, cookies, wine cigars and any other essentials for survival!

Every time you mention the “Genius Killers” and remembering how things went down in that episode, all I can think is that “Genius” is supposed to be read with heavy air quotes rather than as a compliment. What a pair of real “””Genius””” killers they were, leaving blood in a car rented in their own name and leaving their super unique eyeglasses at the scene and running all over town creating an evidence trail everywhere... Real “””geniuses”””.

My older brother is doing life in prison rn. He didn't do it but was falsely implicated by a "witness" who was actually involved and made a deal. During the process, he met a woman who tried to help him, and they eventually got married last year. He might not even come home, but love and hope in a destitute situation like that is what makes us human.

The methods so similar, I had to look. Knowels died late 1976, Isreal Keys was born in early 1978. I am not one for reincarnation, but Keyes seemed to expand on the randomness and evasive qualities Knowels just didn’t have, yet.

So, I know what a fan of the paranormal you are Simon(😆). However, I feel this is the perfect time to mention the one episode of Zack Baggins show 'Ghost Adventures', where they visited a closed down children's home(here in the States), and not quite different from the Dozer School. While interviewing a former woman who worked there, she described the way they operated the place and actually had a look of fondness and even threw in a kind of smile when explaining how it was common place to simply shove kids down a full flight of stairs if they felt it necessary to get the kids to "cooperate". To quote you yourself: "The past was just the worst"
