My issue with 3 is that John Wick goes through so much trouble to get to the head boss, chops his finger off and then immediately goes against it. Really feels like they changed where they were going with the story midway through

Yeah, that’s true and I think that gaping plot flaw could have been fixed, brilliantly, if they’d simply reordered events slightly. What if Winston gave Wick all that help before Wick got to him? Via Lance Reddick’s character (God rest you, Lance)? That would have been a reason for Wick to just change his mind, rather than doing so in such an inexplicable manner after going through all that. Then Winston’s sudden betrayal would have been a much bigger shock. However, I still rate 3 above 2 because the action set pieces are more creative and the new characters are all way more entertaining than anything in 2, (with the possible exception of Peter Seraphiowitch’s character quietly climaxing as he fits John Wick out with his latest suit, guns and, “cutlery”?) both in their back-stories and the actors who play them. And, being honest, that’s what you see a John Wick movie for, right? But, saying that 2 is the least favourite of my John Wick movies is rather like saying it’s my least favourite £1000,000 pound note. There’s very little in it and they’re all of great rarity and value. And I will treasure all accordingly.

The horse double tap is my favorite kill in all the series. Chapter 3 really is one of the best one and the fourth film is by far amazing and well worth the watch. These movies are really physical comedies where the punchline is death.

I've only seen 4 once so I can't really make a tierlist, but I can definately say each movie had so much going for it. 1 had a vibe that was just unmatched. Seeing the loving husband wick go through all the grief, only to have the last thing that reminds him of his wife stripped away, really had an impact, even on subsequent viewings. 1 has the advantage of being the setup, the one that starts it all, the one that gets to reveal the universe, and so really gets to be its own cool thing. 2, although still fantastic with its action and story, really feels like "the sequel". It's basically just more of 1. Still great, but not a whole load to add. 3, I agree with almost every point in this video. The action is unparalleled. The pacing is incredible. The variety keeps it fresh. And seeing 3 in theatre was one of the best experiences. The audience laughed and cheered and grimaced along with the movie, it was seriously such a cool experience. 4, which I only saw once so far, was 3 on steroids. More action, more tough bad guys, more new characters, more world building, just more more more, which is fantastic. The only complaint with 4 on first viewing would be that it kinda overplayed the "10 people fighting at once" card, but its not like it makes it less impressive, just harder to focus on one fight at a time. Each movie is fantastic in its own right, especially as a gun nerd lol

For me this movie had both some of the best fight scenes in the series (knife fight, motorcycle fight, horse fight, library fight, etc) and hands down the worst such as - The Casablanca scene where they’re just mindlessly gunning down hundreds of goons with no difficulty whatsoever The fight scene where they just throw each other through glass for what feels like an eternity Or the one where he’s fighting those 2 assassins that were fans. Like holy crap they were literally just throwing each other on the ground the entire time it was extremely boring and mind numbing But what I will say is that it has hands down the most unique fights in the series, using swords, knives, motorcycles, horses, books, and everything in between. 4 was entertaining but felt very repetitive for me

My favourite Scene In the entire Franchise is that of The Hotel Shootout the hotel staff vs the heavy body armor soldiers everything that is great about john wick The soldiers are the first time we see them in Action and when John shoots the first two they get Back up and john Realises that common pistol won't do So he fires a cup of more shots and Discover that the entire body is bulletproof and has to think on his foot like If this is a 80s action hero would be strong as hell and how infinte ammo but instead his bullets don't work and has to use his mind like getting out of range and sees if there is a weak point the neck and Even with this knowledge they are still Difficult to deal John wick Franchises is a video game you are a badass in it but time and time again you're going to die or in the movies shot kick punch and scratched but with More Time you get Better and better and they became you're easy for you to deal with them like after the shootout John Wick and lance retried back to the vault for more weapons and pick up armor killing shotguns and we love to see it not because it's Action and fights but it's Satisfying to see our character kicking ass after they get beating up in the lobby ❤

It’s 4,2,1,3 for me. There is an incredibly good movie, but you the structure in my opinion just isn’t as tight as the others. We get the first act and it’s incredible, the start of the second act in Morocco is dope, but then it just stops in it’s tracks. It’s like the movie goes “that’s enough action time to do plot” which granted the other movies do with stuff like the suit up montages but it does it with mores style than 3 and that’s why it’s at the bottom for me

I think 1 is still my favorite for his original it was, and the story was the most compelling (simple I know but compelling when compared to the others). All the rest are great but I agree that 3 introduced the most original ideas in regards to the action. This is why I was a bit disappointed in 4, don’t get me wrong it’s amazing action and I loved it, but I expected them to introduce some new ideas into the action like they did in 3. The main reason I like 3 over 2 (don't get me wrong, I love both) is that John Wick 2's story required a single contrivance: If anybody discovered what the main villain had done (specifically, order John Wick to kill someone important and then put a hit on him, claiming Wick did it of his own volition), then anyone sensible in the underworld would've stopped going after Wick, realizing that he was not really the guilty party. 2's ending, however, has Wick (understandably) kill the main villain on Consecrated Grounds, and what I like about John Wick 3's story is that THIS is the reason they're trying to kill him - a transgression he actually performed, rather one that he was falsely accused of. Oh, and I saw 3 on opening night, and when he killed the guy with the book, the entire audience both laughed and applauded. It was a perfect first kill! And a fun fact: the guy getting stabbed in the eye is the guy who taught Keanu Reeves Kung-Fu for the Matrix (later star of Reeve's solo Directed action film: Man of Tai-Chi)

After seeing John Wick 4 and absolutely loving every second of it, I am excited to give JW3 another chance, but I remember seeing it in cinema back in 2019 and after being a big fan of the first two, being quite disappointed with this one; from memory, it was all flash with no substance, and while the action was amazing, that’s literally all there was, and I left thinking I’d been sat in the cinema for 3 hours (not in a good way) when the movie was barely an hour and a half. The only issue with Parabellem is the very end when Wick jumps off the roof and clearly dies after bouncing off all the fire escapes, this could have been easily avoided by having him fall onto something that would break his fall, rather than snap him into pieces, it just makes it a little too ridiculous. Other than that minor critique, it's still an awesome film, as is the entire saga.

I think John Wick 3 works better than a lot of the third entries in trilogies, because it's not and was not trying to be a trilogy. A lot of films only decide they are going to be trilogies after the first film becomes successful and the filmmakers are struggling on how to continue even though the first film wrapped things up pretty well. John Wick only hinted at its world, and then logically carried on the story with the fallout from the first film giving the audience exactly what they wanted. The John Wick story was never going to get settled with only 3 films and the filmmakers were smart enough to know it and give us a decent penultimate chapter.

Up until John's ticket in the Ruska Roma gets torn, I loved the pacing. Afterwards, it kind of drags in spots for me. Maybe spending too much time away from Wick? There's also not much happening in between John or others murdering/maiming goons that I cared for as much as previous movies. 3 also seems to be the only one that doesn't have an actual antagonist for Wick the entire movie. The Adjudicator is the antagonist of the movie and Winston, but she doesn't really do anything against Wick until near the very end of the movie, and even then it feels more like a bonus that Wick is there with Winston. Zero is essentially a henchman, but even if you count him, he also doesn't first see Wick until the last act of the movie. I was okay with him being a fanboy at first, but not when he and others in his group literally have blades to Wicks neck and don't kill him for.... reasons? I dunno man, it's the only JW movie where I feel Wick doesn't deserve his victory or survival (however way you want to put it) at the end. Its also the only one where Wick feels like he ends up more or less where he started off (a little worse for the wear, but still on the run). You could say it's part of the theme or whatever, Wick trying so hard but getting nowhere, but it doesn't make it go down any easier. I also felt the Casablanca shootout just went on and on. Like, they really wanted to get their money's worth out of all that dog training. The glass room also kind of drags for me as well. First Wick fights the 2 nobodies and gets kicked through every pane of glass it seems like. Then he fights the Raid guys, and I'll be honest, this is probably the only time I ever felt that Keanu maybe getting too old for this stuff, cause it seemed like they had to slow down for him. Still better than their cameo in Star Wars for sure. And then he fights Zero. I dunno, maybe they could have had the lackey's fight Charon and what remained of the Continental or something, cause I felt that was 1 fight too many in the same locale. Having said all that, I still enjoyed it and take it over the majority of action flicks out nowadays, and that knife scene is a top 10 fight scene for me for sure (and not just for Wick). Edit: Oh, and also that Parabellum surname. Come on, why? It's so dumb. Just call it Chapter 3. It looks especially awkward with 4 just being Chapter 4.

Some great moments, and it's probably more rewatchable than the first film, but it's the only one of the 4 films that I felt very "meh" about after leaving the cinema. The 2nd and 4th films are my favourites. I look at these like I look at the Uncharted games. First one was a good proof on concept, 2nd one was an instant classic, 3rd one felt a bit tired, 4th one far exceeded expectations.

You say the armored guys in 4 are a repetition since they are introduced in 3, but they are consistent with the fact that the High Table is sending them. Just like after 2 introduced the "kevlar suits" that show up again in 3 and 4. When you introduce a concept to a world you're building, when that shows up again it's just keeping consistency with the established lore. As for which John Wick movie is the best? I don't have an answer... They could mashup only the action setpieces from the 4 movies into one and I'd watch that on repeat for days.

The action is good overall, but the way Halle Berry treats John's character was kind of annoying, her using the dogs over and over was also kinda of annoying, Winston's turn on John I didn't like, the fact John doesn't kill the Adjudicator on sight was also annoying, John goes through all this trouble to seek redemption from the man who sits above the table and even cuts off his finger, only to go against all that to protect Winston who betrays him. Maybe that last part is cleared up in 4 but those are the reasons 3 was my least favorite.

the main problems that make Chapter 3 my least favorite of the franchise is that he spends the entire second act going to Casablanca, walking in the desert, cuts his finger off for a chance to earn his freedom, goes back and immediately decides he's not going to kill Winston, which makes the entire second act completely pointless. and the movie gets just a bit too ridiculous for me, especially with the horse kills and the Casablanca sequence, where it goes slightly too over the top. and the third act goes on for so long, that by the time he fights Zero, we've seen 20 minutes of action with two fistfights right before this one, and that are also better than his fight with Zero. it just makes the final boss battle much more underwhelming, since we've had the amazing knife fight, library fight, the motorcycle chase, and the fight with the two assassins that are all better than the fight with Zero. those are my main gripes with Chapter 3, and even though I love all the movies, this one is just a bit too much for me, hence why it's in last place for me.

Honestly when i first watched the three films 3 was my least favourite. It really took me till the 3rd watch to actually love. I still will continue to struggle to choose a least favourite out of all them though

I agree honestly all the movies in John wick saga have something they excel at compared to the others JW: Emotion JW2: Plot, World Building JW3: Stunts, Comedy JW4: Action, Setpieces, Cinematography, Characters

Chapter 3 is probably my favorite, even if I think that Chapter 4 is the most well executed among the three. Two expanded the universe and while amazing, fumbled in some aspects. One was the perfect "first" though for sure.

I just watched John Wick 3 last night - I skipped it because it didn't seem consequential and universally liked like 1 and 2 was, plus 4 now. My opinion about it is that I don't feel a strong sense of objective and progression. It feels more like a John Wick the Greatest Hits, there's a lot of hype moments in it but I don't even care about the Adjudicator. And we know that Wick isn't ever going to live in peace with the High Table, I never get a sense that they're really trying to sell John's stated driving objective. It just feels really meandering, but it wasn't bad.

My ranking goes: John wick 4 is best John wick 3 is second, John wick 2 is 3rd and the original is fourth. I love them all so much I just feel like the sequels have expanded so much on the first ones story but also with each movie the action evolves and gets better and better every movie

Chapters 3 and 4 are definitely the best two; not sure how anyone could call Chapter 3 boring?!! Very weird take. Watching Chapter 3 on opening night with a full audience it got the best and biggest reactions from any film I'd seen in the cinema til that point, except Avengers: Endgame. It was unbelievably entertaining!

Chapter 3 is really good but it does drag a bit Also, the super armor at the end (which they also use in Chapter 4), was a bit jumping the shark for me (yes even in a franchise where so many other ridiculous things were done)

The only change I would've made to 4 is that I would've shortened up the fight scenes a bit and used that time to instead display how damn tired and worn down he is. Would not change anything about the actual story. I also would not have had John survive ridiculous falls from heights that killed the bad guys. Two minor flaws. Still a 9.9 out of 10 movie for me.

The issue was never the fight scene. There's no such thing as a bad action scene in John Wick. The issue is that we start the movie with John excommunicado in New York, and we end the movie with John excommunicado in New York.

I suppose the only difference is John’s mentality to the high table. At the start of John wick 3, his ambition is to escape excommunicado and be forgiven for his actions. At the end, he wants flat out war, he wants to kill everyone associated with it. That difference is the reason John Wick 4 wouldn’t work with John Wick 3, like sure we could remove all the characters and all that, but it was needed for the idea of revenge and escapism from the high table. Obviously, the plot could have been better, but Stahelski made clear that it wasn’t a good plot for John Wick, but it was brilliant for changing John Wick’s mindset and ideologies

While i find that the action gives the movie a quick pace while watching, it also makes it the most forgettable. Easy to watch but the world building get overshadowed by the large fight sequences leaving it the first one to get glossed over when I'm looking for a rewatch to scratch the John Wick universe fix
