For people who don't know: The film being used by the CIA as an interrogation tool is a reference to DBD killers like The Doctor (who was part of MK Ultra) and The Dredge (who was created by Dr. Otto Stamper in a way very reminiscent of Augustine Lieber's manipulations of Frank Stone and the Cedar Hills population). The Black Vale is a cult that worships the Entity and often works to "create" the best killers and survivors to help feed it. The cult has had a hand in many killers and survivors ending up in the Fog, including the Doctor, The Dredge, The Blight, The Twins, and Nicolas Cage (yes, the actor was set to play the Blight in a film produced by Otto Stamper's descendant, which ironically makes his lore very reminiscent of this game). The Imperiatti is not as thoroughly explored, but Felix Richter and Elodie Rakoto were the children of Imperiatti members who were taken by the Entity into the Entity's realm (often referred to as the Fog). Dead by Daylight does not have much time travel involved, but the Entity is able to crossover between universes and timelines, allowing multiple versions of the same people to end up trapped in the Fog. This has allowed the Entity to take survivors and killers from both the original Resident Evil timeline and the Remake timeline. One character in particular, Haddie Kaur, is basically the protagonist of Dead by Daylight as much of the lore explores her and her variants exploring overlaps (sites of murder where the barrier between the Entity and the world is weaker) and fighting monsters of the Fog. Augustine, with her many variants, feels like a dark version of Haddie combined with Otto Stamper, another character who worshipped the Entity only to ultimately be killed by one of the killers he mentored, Herman Carter aka The Doctor. Based on what I've seen from other people's playthroughs, these are the DBD characters that the Casting of Frank Stone characters most closely resemble: Bonnie Rivera = Thalita Lyra/Carmina Mora (cool older sister who tries to save her younger brother); also Jeff for being a counterculture musician with a troubled home life Jaime Rivera = Julian (a side character whose death / disappearance is the inciting incident before another character gets taken); also shades of Renato Lyra for being a younger brother to another character. Robert Green = Feng Min (a survivor of tragedy who is implied to have survivor's guilt / be making bad decisions because of said guilt) Sam Green = Elodie Rakoto/Haddie Kaur (crusader against the Entity, trying to save more lives, a member of the Imperiatti) Linda Castle = Mikaela Reid/Kate Denson (an artist who channeled their visions of the Entity into their work; also had previous run-ins with the Entity before being taken by it) Madi Rivera-Platt = Haddie Kaur/Zarina Kassir/Mikaela Reid (death of a parent leads them down a path headed for the Entity, also she dreams of the Entity's realm) Bruno Stanford III = Ace Visconti (sleazy scammer/gambler who bit off more than he could chew) Chris Gordon = Nea Karlsson/Meg Thomas (rebellious teen who breaks into abandoned buildings and inevitably finds out why that's a bad idea when they get taken by the Entity) Frank Stone = The Doctor (mentally unstable and violent person whose worst aspects were used by The Black Vale / The Entity); monster form resembles the Unknown/the Dredge for how he absorbs aspects of his victims Augustine Lieber = Otto Stamper (rich, powerful, manipulative person who thought their worship of the Entity made them invincible/untouchable)

In this case MASSIVE air quotes around “save everyone” as the implication of the save everyone ending is that they end up in the “Dead by Daylight” games which is an endless cycle of death and suffering
@ItsHaisho2 ай бұрын
More over, whether or not you save everyone you can in the 2024 timeline is likely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. The entity has already taken over, and in the world of DBD, it is capable of bringing its victims back over, and over again regardless of if they escape or not (I only just learned this, but those who die during a trial simply forget what happened - and while someone could argue ignorance is bliss, it is still an unfortunate fate even if they aren't always aware of it). So while I've seen many argue that getting everyone killed is actually the better thing to do, since that means they won't be stuck in an endless loop of trials for the rest of eternity, that sadly is probably not the case. The only exception might be whoever is consumed by Frank Stone when he comes out of the projector (pro tip for anybody who may not know - you CAN save both Sam, and Linda here. Just don't help Stan. He will die five minutes later regardless, and there is nothing you can do at any point to stop this from happening), but that's obviously not any better of a fate, since they are still alive within him, and will live the rest of eternity in agony. Overall, the ending of this game can be summed up as, "there are fates worse than death."

@@ItsHaisho I actually somewhat disagree that the survivors are taken even if they die. If that was the implication, the game would have had them appear at the campfire no matter what, such as what happens if two survivors make it to the end. Same for if you get Chris back to the past and Sam to escape through the Horologium. Although, in their cases it's probably more that the Entity can't reach them.

Being after being pulled through time, seeing everything in the present, and going back in time to find that she's essentially been duplicated is a very easy backstory for Augustine's pursuit of knowledge. Murder Mill seems to be Augustine's plan B after her original plan was foiled by Sam. However that would question on how much she was involved on everything that happens in the game. Even though there are multiverse shenanigans, it is still a huge coincidence that Chris happens to come from out of town and would have a big interest in making a film at the steel mill which would help Augustine bring the entity into her world. Either Augustine has some crazy luck or she has planned for Chris to move out to Cedar Hills.

The Hidden Object Guru has a really convincing theory that Chris might actually be a variant of Lieber herself. We know Augustine Lieber isn’t her real name. My personal take on the Christine theory: yes, she is definitely Augustine! But she originates in the timeline we see in 1980. She moves to Cedar Hills, all the stuff we see happens and they split up the film, but after that, what we don't see, is Christine being fundamentally changed by what she experienced in the mill, the portal, and her chance encounter with her future self. Perhaps she manages to find the Black Vale through her own occult research, or maybe they contact her similar to how Sam was contacted. But either way, that version of Chris joins the Black Vale and gains training and knowledge about the entity and how Frank fits in, but they need her to help assemble the necessary pieces. Since they have the technology to travel through the different timelines, Chris is able to obtain several lifetimes worth of knowledge, and I think some of those timelines involve Chris NOT moving to Cedar Hill and therefore never meeting that version's Linda, Jaime or Bonnie; hence the versions of the movie (presumably the one Maddie has) featuring Bonnie in the role we saw Chris playing in the"flashback." Instead she goes to university to be a psychologist, deliberately putting herself in the position to mentally groom Frank into a murderer. And then just repeat the cycle over and over, collecting all the occult stuff, the different versions of the movie, as well as orchestrating the entire 1963 scenario with the mill murders culminating in Jaime's kidnapping and the shootout with Sam.

I was a bit too but when I read up a bit more on the wiki of dead by daylight, combined with the context of the game it seems to be implied that Augustine, across the multiverse, is trying to perform a ritual to summon the 'entity' to do so she needs 'killers' and 'victims'. This version of her seems to 'create' frank stone but the ritual isn't able to be completed thanks to Sherriff Green, however it seems she's able to resurrect Frank by assembling his captured essence across the film strips collected across the multiverse. Ultimately it seems regardless of who lives/dies, Augustine herself is sacrificed by the killer to the entity, which (trapping the 'victims' in a 'trial' which is ultimately the game Dead by Daylight. This trial seems to possibly exist outside of space and time which would explain why the original quartet of victims in DbD are 'never seen nor heard from again' despite possibly escaping their killers?

First, I wish they had given us more crossover with the different timelines, but I doubt they wanted the scope of this game to be too insane. 😅 Secondly, we didn't get a motive for why Augustine wants to bring this horrible entity into existence or how she even knows about it. Also, its weird that she is shown to be working alone, but again, they probably didn't want the scope of the game to be too large. And third, I was most disappointed that Stanford didn't play a bigger role in the plot. He's the only character that has no connection to any other timeline, which is strange. I kept waiting for it to be revealed that he was Augustine's son or something or maybe a member of the cult. Anyway, great video. Thank you for breaking the story down. 👌

I find it funny how the entity is trying so hard to larp as divine
@terminator9489Ай бұрын
@@bayern1445 I'm not sure it's trying to pose as "divine", it doesn't require some type of worship (apart from the hook things which is very ritualistic. In fact, the entity is very cruel to some of it's killer, and more so to those who fought back like the trapper (the hooks on his body are some form of submission to the entity)

Worth pointing out as well: The Imperiatti mentioned are also referenced in the main Dead by Daylight game. Two of the survivors, Felix and Élodie, are the children of members of the Imperiatti. It is noted in their lore that Felix and Elodie were part of a group of five such kids, calling themselves the Pariahs. Perhaps at some point, if Chen has a child, they will enter the fog too.

For fans of horror games, whether single player or asymmetric multiplayer (in DBD's case), this is probably one of the biggest horror crossover games ever. Being a SuperMassive Games fan, I admit to being intrigued when I saw people like HiddenObjectGuru speculating stuff from the trailers and BTS stuff. Since people remember the villains/killers of horror movies better than the heroes, in most cases, I mostly stick to watching/memorizing the basics of killer lore concerning Dead by Daylight and Behavior. This game may be focused on doling out DBD easter eggs, from the gameplay to the collectibles, but I believe fans of Until Dawn finally have the spiritual successor game they deserve, ultra nice since the Until Dawn remake/rerelease is less than a month away now. Thanks for covering this anticipated, ambitious, and rather intriguing game.

Maybe the 2024 film didn't release Frank because they didn't find his lair? In the 1980 timeline, Frank only appeared after they started filming the hand so it would make sense that maybe they didn't find it in the 2024 timeline?

Supermassive Games needs to make a horror anthology game with many stories from a good show like Black Mirror, Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside or The Twilight Zone. They need to have like 5 good stories that can be played and when you pass each of the 5 stories you can unlock other stories that also have multiple endings.

Never played dead by daylight. After paying $40 the game was very worth the money if you like graphics, an animated story, relaxing and pressing a button, changing the scenes of a movie on the fly and feeling like you’re in a scary movie. Now I will say I feel the game was very short; it lacked substance when you walked around to look for things and I feel like this game was an introduction for a character for another game. I had some friends say it’s a new character for the next dead by daylight game. I’ve never played that game but I bought frank stone because I bought the quarry. The quarry is definitely longer than frank stone. Frank stone seems like really cool tv show short and sweet but I felt they could’ve added more gameplay or scenes for the money. I bought the game Friday or Saturday. And it Monday and I just beat the game and watched this explanation video. I’m going to play a few more times but it’s a very short game for those expecting tog et. A week or two out of this game. I might get that playing the story mode a few times seeing the different outcomes but I played this game two hours today and three yesterday and barely 1 on Saturday and I’m sure I bought the game on Saturday

I definitely think Chris and Augustine are connected. Possibly in the 1980 timeline, Augustine existed but never fully committed to the cult of the entity but like the other Augustine’s she still has a drive to explore forbidden knowledge. She has children and eventually Chris is born and has an interest in the macabre. She learns about Frank and the part of her that is a past Augustine awakens. That would explain why she was so obsessed overnight with Frank and why she had no issues with filming a crime scene. The portal opens for her because she is a descendant of Augustine and has collected some of the essence of Frank and so her time in that world is over. Of course there are some overlap with Old Augustine who had traveled there. I think Augustine is replacing other versions of herself with the horoglorium (?) so that she can be in any timeline in perpetuity.

This is kinda unrelated but I have a cool idea where at the end of DBD’s lifespan they could do an event where depending on if more survivors or more killers win a certain amount of matches as a community they could have an ending to the game with like a cutscene or final battle or something that’s good or bad depending on the outcome. Don’t know why I thought of it but just thought it was a cool idea lmao

You got a bit of stuff wrong about Entity, it doesn't really consume matter or worlds, but instead feeds off of emotions. Entity itself is just an amalgam of them and trials exist to create as much of them as possible. It also doesn't *have* to be summoned to kidnap someone from a world, it kinda just snatches whoever from wherever as long as they might be of use to it.
@DuelaDent522 ай бұрын
No, the Entity DOES consume worlds whole if it’s able to, it just doesn’t do it every time it pulls people into its realm. The Champion was a special case since he was cooked up by the Black Vale to specifically draw the Entity’s attention and was assembled from hundreds of different Franks.

Honestly I think this is too slow for DBD players as well we just find the lore building really intriguing. But for a Supermassive/Dark Pictures (or The Quarry/Until Dawn) type game this makes a lot of sense. Linda Castle has to be a reference to William Castle a gimmick horror director from the late 50's (directed The Tingler, House on Haunted Hill, and 13 Ghosts), right? The scene at 19:56 of the chamber is straight out of the 90's 13 Ghosts remake and the whole theme of movies transporting souls through time-space is very in keeping with Castle's Gimmick-y "4D" film experiences.

I strongly agree about the theory of Augustine Lieber being Christine Gordon from different timelines. But I dont see any concrete evidence to support this because of several confusing scenes 😂 For example; 1 moment we saw Chris going back to the portal through the massive movie screen. That leads to a timeline with 2 Christine Gordons existing in a single timeline. And then near the end we saw Old Augustine opening the lid of the Horologium portal with her younger self coming out of it. And then we also know that the Chris that Madi sent back through the Horologium portal, went back to the same timeline that she originated from. And the most hinting conversations they had when they introduced themselves; "I CALL myself Augustine Lieber" and not " I AM Augustine Lieber " but then again maybe this theory is just flatout wrong in every way 😂

I'm glad i wasn't mad thinking Christine and Augustine were the same person. Was she always part of the cult? Or did her experience bring her to them as she was drawn in to what she had seen. Where was she in that one film where she wasn't in it? Maybe the part of her that was upset that Jiame fleed instead of helped her made her want revenge and had Frank target him as an infant as payback.
