San Francisco's Castro District is the number one place in the world for LGBTQ community. It embraces the full range of gay lifestyles, offering a time and place for everyone no matter your preference. Besides that, it is the most fun place to spend a day, no matter what lifestyle you prefer.

This is a great vid on Castro. I like it when you showed us not only the area but also brought us into the bars and stores and interviewed the owners.

I grew up in the Castro, went to school at Most Holy Redeemer from K-3rd, played at Wheels Valley Playground, lived on Diamond St. from 1978-2021, my mom and dad lived on 17th & Market where there is a corner mom and pop store! I'm an old gal from back in the day when families were there! I now live in the tenderloin and work as a security guard in the City! Walgreens, Castro theater, Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy (my nieces and nephews went there)!

Thanks for the video. I first went to San Francisco in 1985,for only 3 days and didn't see the Castro. I was still in the closet. I moved to San Deigo in 1988,from the Northeast. In 1992 ,I moved up to a small coastal town about 3.5 hrs North of San Francisco. ,to be with my boyfriend. When we broke up, I started to go San Francisco a few times a year for 2-3 days, a long week-end. A good friend sometimes drove ,and he showed me around. I love feeling so free and open, and I also love the Victorian architecture of most of the buildings and houses. I love some of the bars and went to a few, yet I loved the Twin Peaks, as looking in and out the large glass windows is great, it's not that big, the drinks used to be strong, and the people were friendly. I also have been to some of the Soma Bars, and they were ok, but not my thing. I did see old Judy Garland movie, Meet me in ST. Louis, withe her youngest daughter Lorna Luft introducing the film, and I met her afterwards. I have been to Pride,2x,and it was wonderful but so crowded, and so long. I love the city and I have to many places, yet not since 2008. I have to get back. Keep on making videos, and good Luck.

What a great comment. Thanks for sharing. I hope you get more than what you expect here in SFO. It is a great place with great problems, but it will remain on people's minds because it is fabulous. .

Haven't been to the Castro since the mid 90's. I think most major cities have a gay district now.

Formerly known as 'Eureka Valley', the neighborhood was upper working class Irish Catholic and home to some of the 60s rock and roll renaissance players like , Janis Joplin and Carlos Santana. It was dangerous for gays to go cruising at night there as teenage gangs were on the prowl for homophobic violence which the police often refused to investigate, likely because they, themselves, indulged in the same crimes when they were teens. It was a pleasant neighborhood, white, hip and unpretentious and the transformation occurred when all the bars were bought by gays. It was the first replacement of a population that was not ethnic or racial.

I've been looking for someone who knows castro. I want to go on a real tour with someone who knows. When I was a kid my Grandma had a friend over there. Had a tea shop. I don't remember and my Grandma cant correctly recall the exact location.

I'd suggest that you watch the video, then put on your curiosity cap and explore. Nothing is more fun than exploring the unknown.
