Queer is also just an umbrella term for someone who falls under the LGBTQ+ label! It is often used to mean genderqueer, but can also mean things like sexuality

I identify as queer because figuring things out in detail is mind melting. I just know i am the way i am and dont feel the need to look deeper? But im not out to my parents, since my mum still strongly believes that queer is a bad word. When i say it in passing she just goes 'oh, dont use that awful word.' I get that in her generation it wasnt used nicely, but things change 🫡

Feel the exact same way! Don’t like using gay cause i grew up in a world where it was used as something to be laughed at. I never felt like it was „cool“ to be gay and others saw themselves as something better. (It was never really talked abt in media and if it was, it was something to make fun of a lot of the time.) I turned out never identifying with the term because of it. Goes to say: the trauma you faced and the way terms are used in you surroundings effect how you perceive them and how you feel like using them later in life.

Gay Is a choice
@strawberry4921
@strawberry4921 5 ай бұрын
@@ville__ It really isn’t. I cannot speak for everyone, though through my (and many others’) experience, it has never been a choice. I’m not gay, though I’ve been attracted to many different people throughout my life, regardless of their gender. For example, my first crush was my (at the time) best friend who was a girl (I’d like to add the context that during this time I was often seen as a girl also, despite feeling differently). We haven’t been in contact for a long time, though I still remember the times back in elementary school where I’d do anything to make her smile, sending butterflies into my stomach. And while those feelings are not caught by choice, I suppose being in a relationship with someone of the same gender is. TLDR, the feelings caught are not by choice, though I guess you can say that willingly dating someone despite being the same gender is an option. (Just want to add rq that if I sound rude in this reply, I don’t mean to. I’m just sharing my thoughts and such)

It's not my trauma. It takes a lot to say that, and it's so meaningful, to put a stop on a train of generational thought and trauma that you won't inherit. It's so meaningful, I didn't realize I needed to hear someone being like that

A part of me hopes that one day we'll have a society where people can be like (example) Cisgender male just gets a boyfriend and introduces him to friends & family without "coming out" or "labels" because no one expected him to like women just because he's male. This would go all ways for all identities, but things would be a lot more casual & chill rather such a big deal as they are right now (obviously this is in an accepting society)

this is a concept i love so much. but sadly it only exists in extremely open minded families and places, where the child already knows the parents don't need them to come out, and will accept them regardless of who they are and who they love. i often feel like gender and sexuality is too culturally integrated into who a person is. i'm a bisexual trans man, but i'm still the same person as i was when i was a 12 year old, still wondering whether the gender i was assigned is the right thing for me, just matured into who i was always meant to be.

My moms preferred queer because of the common protest chant: "We're here, we're queer! Get used to it!" And it kinda just stuck with all us kids. So even our cis het sibs are queer because they are aggressive allies and wear whatever they want because clothes have no gender so people often assume they're not cis or het. I wanna say they only correct that notion when someone is the same gender asks them out. It's adorable because they're always so flattered. My brother once sighed and said he wished he was gay because the guy that asked him out was a new kid in the area that he'd already considered a great friend. But he just didn't think of him like that and whined that is that friend was a girl, he'd probably be drooling over a 'chick that was into all the same things he was' the way his buddy was. They're still friends btw

I love this, this is my thoughts exactly, label or don’t label urself as whatever u want and use whatever labels in whatever as long as they are correct and sincere usages in whatever way u want, I identify as queer to myself and to friends, but when i come out to people I generally say bisexual just because its a readily understandable term, still too much for my Christo-loony family to accept me but at least it was clear cut and explained just by the use of one word. Queer has been used as a word among others to insult me in my childhood originating community but me using it in a positive and voluntary way has disarmed it for me, i still get called a f-slur but i feel like that word is almost comically overused at this point that some of its potency has been lost through that.

Does anyone ever ask if you're gay or queer though?(like this is a real question though) Plus, I would think to myself at least in the modern day and times they would not care to ask in the slightest bit because, one it truly doesn't matter and two most people are way too preoccupied to be worried about that.

@@the_real_mcgarvyer9 I dont get out much anymore but back when I did, oh yeah absolutely, I think its a combo of general curiosity, leading into the pronouns question (more people care about others pronouns than bigots would let on), and wanting to know if you're safe, if you're compatible with them or their friends (and if they can hook you up with said friends lol), and some folks unfortunately care because they are bigots, and the more they know the more targeted their abuse is.

A loved one of mine is an elderly LGBTQIA community member who laments that "gay" became the acceptable term and wishes that "homo" had been chosen instead. 'Homo' is short for homosexual which is not a bad word and matches with "hetero" and "bi". "Gay" to Frederic's point was and is a slur, right up there with "funny" "silly" "skippy" (all real btw). But also to Frederic's point, langauge is fluid, much like sexuality and gender identity.

I'm really proud of my bi label but I get it if you don't want to label yourself. I've always seen Queer as like a LGBTQ+ blanket term in a way? Like you're questioning your sexuality cause you're sure you're not straight but none of the labels appeal? Maybe try using Queer as a blanket term for now and see how you feel? Thats the way I've interpreted it.

Queer is the only label that has stayed with me the entire time I've been questioning my gender identity and sexuality. No matter where I fall on the spectrums between ace & allo or cis & trans or homo & hetero, I *am* Queer. I am not cis or straight & this much I know *for sure*. As for specifics? I'm happy that those who've been searching for the correct labels have found them. I'm happy that we have more words in our vocabulary to describe to others our internal experiences and our attractions. Back when everyone was first having crushes on others & figuring out their personalities and attractions & some folks were (bravely) coming out in high school... I didn't even know that nonbinary was a thing, let alone all the other labels that have come into existence. That isn’t to say it didn't already exist. I mean, I existed in my weird "not like other xyz", hating the overly gendered colors and clothing pieces that I was sometimes forced to wear and the weirdness I felt saying I was my agab. But the terms weren’t there to describe that feeling to everyone else around us, at least, not that I knew of. So it's nice that we *have* them now. Still, that doesn't mean anyone has to utilize them if they don’t want to or has to stick to one that they chose previously if they’ve found a new one that fits better. Labels are changeable, just as much as our genders and sexuality are fluid. Thankfully, Queer exists as an umbrella term because while there are some that fit *more* than others, none of them feel like me. I guess the closest would be gendervoid but even then it feels... *limiting*. Like a box I have to fill. So.

This is EXACTLY my experience w the term queer as well. I’ve been through so many labels and they’ve all felt too restrictive and just not right for me. I feel like I’m constantly changing and growing and my interests and passions take me all over the place, and oftentimes my identity kind of goes along for the ride as well. Using the term Queer, it feels like it goes beyond sexuality and gender identity, it just encapsulates me and how I see myself and interact with the world. Everything I do is queer because I am queer. It lets me change and grow and still feel and know that I’m being true to myself. Idk, it’s just a very freeing word, it feels less like a label and more just like, a descriptor, if that makes any sense at all? Idk. Also bonus points because the Queer flag is gorgeous

Queer was an olden day word for strange or odd, or curious Now there are many labels for it And they are all amazing

I love your makeup- and nobody asked me- but I think it would’ve been even better if the natural side was a brighter color too! Like a pop of orange instead of neutral browns. I say this because i can’t stop staring at the blue eye like it’s 10x bigger 😂!

The Gewehr 98 action, using a 5-round stripper clip loaded with the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge, successfully combined and improved several bolt-action engineering concepts which were soon adopted by many other countries including the United Kingdom, United States, and Japan.[2] The Gewehr 98 replaced the earlier Gewehr 1888 as the main German service rifle. It first saw combat in the Chinese Boxer Rebellion and was the main German infantry service rifle of World War I. The Gewehr 98 saw further military use by the Ottoman Empire and Nationalist Spain. It was eventually replaced by the Karabiner 98k, a carbine version using the same design, for the Wehrmacht under Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945.

ty for validating those of us with trauma related to the term "queer" and recognizing its history as a slur

I can't imagine 'zesty' as a slur. If i got called that and never heard it before I'd be like "...thanks, i think?"

Kids are mean tbh, they'll legit find any word to use to hurt others, some immature adults as well Growing up, "lesbian" was used as an insult against me so 😅

I actually do like labels....and I have a lot of them. 😅 I use queer for myself both because that is what I am, and also as an umbrella term for all of MY labels. It's a very useful term.

For me personally I think you become Queer when you stop letting your gender or people stop you from doing whet you want to do. ❤ Queer simply means Unique or special. 😊

i’m more comfortable just saying i’m bi now, but i used to say bi/queer. bc i was in a constant state of feeling like i needed to validate myself due to the biphobia i saw online, i felt like queer have me more breathing room! now i just say im a queer person, and i’m good with saying bi is my sexuality specifically. i love that queer has been reclaimed. i’m so glad you said that fruity and zesty are used as slurs. i feel like young kids online have gotten too comfortable using them to describe someone 😭

So it’s kinda like how I call myself neurospicy? I have autism, adhd, anxiety, etc. and at this point idk what the fck I am but I know I’m definitely something, and I like saying neurospicy a lot more than saying neurodivergent because it feels more accurate of a description. So my self description has just evolved into “I’m neurospicy and I go boing boing.”

I feel uncomfortable when people call me my deadname because of how it's been used against me, but I'm not gonna go up to someone and say "you can't use that name cause ppl used it to hurt me" so why should you get to do that to us

Queer also covers people who aren’t allosexual, so if someone is cis and straight, but they’re asexual, then they’re still queer.

I once said “yeah queer people tend to like the dsmp” (this was during dream allegedly texting weird stuff to minors) and the person I was talking to just looked at me, I am not well informed on all the qsmp and Minecrafters stuff but I do play Minecraft and watch the chuckle sandwich podcast, I’ve also watched the thing ranbo made in a mall, my point is AITAH because despite being a Ali sometimes I feel like I say horrid things

1) Your look is gorgeous😍 2) I identify as queer, because I like that this word is all-encompassing, and even if I can also identify as biromantic ace, I don't necessarily want to go into specifics, and I am not necessarily feeling the same day to day. What I definitely know is that I'm not heterosexual, so queer fits perfectly for me personally.
