Your maintenance schedule on the calendar Is a foolproof way of keeping track of what you have done. That was a very smart idea your old boss taught you about adding some new oil and letting it drain to clean each specific reservoir. Stay safe.

I worked at Komatsu in Peoria Illinois and at one time they built an excavator, the size was a 650. They had an outside place where they tested it. It was many steel plates welded together and bolted to concrete. The semi I would haul it with and trailer which was triple wide. One time the general Forman came to me that he wanted it chained down. It never slipped or fell off with out messing with chains. In fact someone stole all the chains and binders mainly they carried them on the floor board of the passenger side.

Maybe I'm being corny but I enjoy watching a man taking care if his equipment. I follow a bunch of people and I lose respect for a guy abusing his equipment. You know Mike Morgan so I'll use him to make my point - 3 years ago I found OWTM and this guy had a lot of equipment (no where near what you have!) But he was so gentle w his stuff and like you, he videoed servicing them. Right away I liked this guy. I guess using machines at my work that others on different shifts would use really turned me against those who don't respect the equipment. I can't tell you how many times I'd come in to work to find my lift had been tore up. Many times that happened...so it just does my heart good to see a man taking care of his stuff. I won't say his name, but a young man I follow has a sawmill and 2 tractors, one a new Kubota. He will be going backwards and slam it forward, used his grapple to clear a field of weeds, goes flying through his woods and hits a stump removing the valve stem on his tire! So my opinion of him isn't good. So thanks Tom for these video's of your equipment maintenance and the care you take operating your equipment! That first day I saw you, Mike said you had a great business and you were just starting your channel, that we should check you out. Well, before, he told us that he was ready to get cement and he was having a guy come out who was the best around, we already knew Mike knows his stuff, so that was great! Then we saw you in action, and I was sold! Now I'm looking for your videos every day. I'm real sorry you suffered a broken camera. I do hope you continue growing your channel, I've gotten hooked. Great stuff every day! Thanks Tom for bringing us along, see ya tomorrow! 👍👌❤

In my 35 years of being a diesel mechanic I’ve never put oil into a filter before installation. Before electric fuel pumps you would have to fill a fuel filter with diesel fuel but never a oil filter.

The only thing I would check with your dealer is the vacuum indicator on your air cleaner I think you check it when it's at Full Throttle. Then push the button and reset it after you put in the new filters. I don't think you'll be running that machine in a very dusty environment that much but with other machines you can blow that outer filter out quite a few times before it starts to affect the vacuum on the inner filter when you check your indicator. But changing both once a year is a good practice. I used to have that kind of a lever valve on all my vehicle's when I change the oil now that I'm retired my dealership changes the oil because of warranty issues. In my book they are great invention!

My husband says on his next mini excavator before purchasing he will check accessibility to all drain plugs and filters, radiator hoses, and most importantly, access panels to both ends of hydraulic hoses and room to turn a wrench without unhooking half a dozen other hoses. You can learn to hate equipment that is too hard to work on. We like your maintenance plan for winter months.

Hi Tom, something I noticed about the hydraulic filter changing was how you said the filter could only go in one way. The top and bottom plates have the same notch. Also, would disconnecting the coil wire and turning the engine over a few times get the oil pump to start circulating the oil before the engine actually fires up? Have good days!
@Bullet-xj5rp
@Bullet-xj5rp 2 жыл бұрын
Buddy, the engine in most excavators are diesel. No coil or spark plugs. For cold starts they have glow plugs, otherwise in warmer climates they just start on shear compression. To shut them off, you need to stop the fuel or stop the air from entering the combustion chamber.
@threepointservices-tractor4832
@threepointservices-tractor4832 2 жыл бұрын
Using the easy drain valve, on the engine oil pan, doesn’t provide an opportunity to check the drain plug magnets. If you don’t have drain plug magnets, you should get them. Also, defatting of the skin, is a real thing. You should wear nitrile gloves when working with oil, and hydraulic fluid.

It’s not necessary to waste new oil through the engine like that. With OIL ANALYSIS you will never see the difference. If your oil doesn’t have enough lubricant to start without any oil in the oil filter then maybe you’re using the wrong oil.

I was taught to fill my oil filters from when I was young. I now find out you shouldn’t fill your filters because their could be contaminated oil from many places like the jug or barrel.. then you by pass the filter when you put oil in the filter that oil goes to the bearings with out filtration..I’ve heard it say engine manufacturers recommend not adding oil to the filters
