Thank you so much. If the narration is any good it’s only because the author created such a complete person when he wrote Holden. Holden is fully alive in the book and if you read it out loud he jumps off the pages for you. Thanks for listening!
@julieturner81582 ай бұрын
I agree completely. I have been carried along by the character from the start. Not only do you have access to his inner world with all of its qualities both admirable and not so admirable ,you, also see how others probably perceive him. I knew someone a bit like Holden once and he was wonderful, at the same time as being an annnoying little sod! I think that Holden's intelligence and perceptions coupled with the pain of losing his younger brother lead him into a kind of frustration and a desire to poke at people and things to get some kind of a reaction - the boy I knew was just like that. I studied this at O level about a million years ago but I think listening to it as an adult after a lifetime of experience you understand him in quite a different way. I love it when I find an audio book that I look forward to listening to each day. I have just done a long stint of going deeply into Jane Austen and this is making a refreshing change, although her ability to paint characters is remarkable too.

Thank you so very much for the gift of hearing this book. As a mother of four sons when it was time to actually read this. I was way too busy with them have only been born about a year and a half apart.. I had wanted all boys, and was thrilled with having mine and actually wanted more, and I assumed their father would tell them what they needed to know as young boys, and how to approach the time of maturity. I was totally shocked by one of my sons coming to me and asking me “ but how do I do it??” I knew even at 16 he was so in love and yet trusted me to tell him everything. It was a precious time for me and I’m sure that he and my other boys were able to get it all right. Now I am so glad to have listened to the book which made me laugh and have lots of sweet memories especially now at 93 , legally blind, sitting here alone waiting for the new year to come in and to get over this darn flu. I listened to this on a whim and am so glad I did. There’s so much debate on Holden as a character and your performance of him makes me question how anybody could dislike him. You have this way of speaking that always makes it clear Holden’s good natured at heart, even when some of the things he thinks and says aren’t the greatest. You give him a vulnerability at points that makes it impossible to not empathize with him. I haven’t quite finished yet, I only just finished chapter 13. But I needed to leave a comment after that chapter because I was very impressed with it. Most times, I choose to read a book visually because I want to imagine all the character voices and inflections myself. This time, I’m glad I decided to listen to you, because you made me adore Holden and I’m excited to finish his story. Keep up the good work!

Not very far in but I do enjoy this readers voice best. I listened to a couple minutes of two other readings and this one was best. Makes a huge difference really if you think about it.... this is the persons voice you’ll be hearing for over 6 hours! Lol

I had never been able to get myself interested enough in this classic book, and I really loved how you read it. You remind me of my 5th grade teacher who used to read us books when it was too hot for us to concentrate on anything else (the days of no air-conditioning in LA). All those books later became Tim Burton movies, and of course the foundation of who I am now. I hope you're using your voice professionally.

ugh this is so good. I was so sad when this vid was taken down before. I love love love the narration and the voice for each character. I felt like I was struggling to get through the book just reading off the paper copy, but this audiobook made it so enjoyable to listen to.

This is my favourite book and I'm pretty precious about it but this sounds fantastic. I've only just started but you're really good. It's really having some kind of affect on me. When I started reading this book I was a teenager and felt very much like Holden and now I'm an adult. I'm still disenfranchised but now I kind of want to shake him. I want him to be alright. I know that's kind of a lot to put on you. I'm just saying that you read so nicely and with just the right tone that nothing is lost. God Holden when you gonna get your head on straight

I totally get it. Thanks for giving this version a shot when you already have such a strong connection to the book, I really appreciate it. “I want him to be alright” is such a beautiful thing to say. I feel the same way.

This is a great reading. The others available are either low quality and the better sounding one is too fast. This is perfect. Your reading adds so much charm and character to an already great book.

I agree! I started listening to another reading of this book, I could not take the narrators tone of voice anymore. I tried and tried, I just couldn’t do it. I love your voice and I intend on sharing this reading. Thanks!

Tremendously done! You embodied the complexities of Holden so well, particularly the endearing parts of him, underneath the angst. I really enjoyed listening to this. It helped me understand Holden better.

I see that I’m late o Holden’s party. This is my second time reading Catcher. I read it as a junior in high school in 1971. Our American Lit teacher was fired for including this in our reading list. Times change. Oh, and perfect narration.
