@ok70916 ай бұрын
Yes that’s true. I’m not saying you disagree, because I don’t know, but just to expand on it here. The fruit bears witness to the activity and health of the tree. There also may be good reason to think the tree isn’t doing well or isn’t a fruit bearing tree based on its ability to produce fruit, as “we shall know then by their fruit”. But the RCC view is that the fruit is an offering of atonement that is given, not a sign of the healthy tree. It’s not so much “works must flow from healthy faith”, but more so “if works flow from true faith then works must have a part in salvation” rather than a side effect or symptom of salvation.

I'm catholic and just discovering my faith, Saints are venerated, God is worshipped, the issue with most protestants is that they venerate God so when Catholics venerate saints it looks like worship to them. Asking for intercession is not praying to them it's still praying to God. "Prayers for the dead", is not about changing God's mind about someone's salvation it's about having hope that someone you love might be in God's presence, also the prayers doesn't 'promote' the soul from purgatory to heaven, all souls in purgatory goes to heaven, no sin can enter heaven it's a cleansing process before one goes to the holy presence of God, just like entering the tabernacle in Moses' time. The doctrine of Transubstantiation is not found on the last supper but elsewhere although in the eucharist we participate in it, Jesus said “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” the people started to walk away saying "how can this man give us his flesh to eat?" As They were walking away he doubles down saying my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink he didn't correct what they had understood him saying but doubles down on it. He then turned to Peter and asked "are you going to walk too?" Peter just said "You offer eternal life where else would we go" Jesus died for all sins, Mortal sins are just sins that are greater that others in the context of its severity, it just means needing repentance over since it's mostly tied to how you live your life and how you worship God or not. and again it does not get them in purgatory, all souls in purgatory are saved, judgement has been made upon them and since no sin or impurities can enter heaven thus the cleansing, Christ's salvific sacrifice is offered freely but We don't have the license to do what we want expecting to still be saved. And it's NOT only through the sacraments we are going to forgiven, Jesus will save who he wants to save, the sacraments are tied to him but. He's not tied to it. Dying in a state of mortal sin is a person dying in their sins knowingly and rejecting God's offer of grace, saying "im a christian" to look good in the eyes of their neighbors but live their lives away from Jesus. "Grace through works" means we are participating in Jesus' work, we can't earn our way into heaven no one goes to the father but through Jesus, but the grace offered is something that we need to act upon, we receive it, we live it, faith is not something that is static, human hearts are very easily swayed specially in times of testing. If you're given an apple do you just leave it on the table to rot or are you going to eat it with delight and appreciation. In confession, the priest is acting on Jesus' authority to forgive. And we are not just priests, all baptized people are called to be apostles. And true that Jesus is the only mediator that's why his authority can do these.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia defines veneration as “a religious act, an act of WORSHIP.” Worship belongs to Almighty God alone, Not any image or Saint. (Matthew 4:10) If worshipping an image was necessary, Jesus would have said so!

Sunny Johnson, worship used to mean honor, or praise. People used to cal kings “his worshipfulness.” Adoration meant what we mean by the use of the term worship, today. @unworthyServant086 ай бұрын
With charity I say the following on the topics you touched which I disagree with: The saints are "sleeping" as is described by the Bible of those who died while in the faith. They await the day of the Lord's coming, as we do. Thus, we cannot ask them to pray on our behalf, or intercede. An example of this is Saul trying to get Samuel back to get him to entreat God to guarantee success over his enemies. This was viewed as witchcraft and idolatry before Christ came in the flesh, and it still is viewed as witchcraft and idolatry. No matter how we wish to spin it. We do not communicate with the dead, and the dead do not communicate with us. The Lord does not permit it. There is no place such as purgatory. Unless you consider that purgatory is the moment of rest at our death, when we await the coming of the Lord, when all shall be raised, both dead and living, and those who are considered righteous would then receive a new body, as described by Paul. If not, then purgatory does not exist. And there are not sins that a person can be cleansed of in death. The cleansing happens as we live. Consider what David said when he ended his fast for his son with Bathsheba, after he died [2 Samuel 12:22-23]: “While the baby was still alive, I fasted, and I cried. I thought, ‘Who knows? Maybe the Lord will feel sorry for me and let the baby live.' But now that the baby is dead, why should I fast? I can’t bring him back to life. Someday I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me.” While we are living, we are called to hope in Him for our life, but if we die in sin, we are separated from Him. Being that I've claimed there is no place as purgatory above, I wish to add that in God's eye, all sins are offensive and worthy of death. There is not a single sin that receives a light tap on the wrist. This is an example of how our understanding is not to be leant on, for we categorize good and evil in tiers, and assign various levels of punishment to them. But the Lord has but one punishment for evil/sin: death. And the only way to escape said punishment, is through repentance, and acceptance of the Lord's discipline in this life. For once we pass away, there is no making up for our sins.

Verses saying that nothing in creation can separate us from God all refer to external things, like planets or angels. This doesn’t mean that one cannot seperate themselves from God, or end the engagement themselves, or later come back and be rectified. How do you even know if you were truly saved, in this viewpoint? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Holy Orders Matthew 10:1 - Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. Grew up Protestant, converted to the Catholic Church about 9 years ago now. Here's my response to the first objection you raised: In Catholic theology, the Church is the Body of Christ. It is made up of the baptized who have been adopted into Christ. There is only one body of Christ. The Church on earth is the same Church as the Church in heaven. Saints in heaven are not "dead", they are more alive than we are now because they are face to face with God. So just as I may ask members of the Church on Earth to pray for me, I can certainly ask for members of the Church in heaven to pray for me as well. We're all in the Body of Christ. The argument that once a Christian dies and is with God he/she has absolutely no knowledge of people on Earth seems extremely odd and counter to the entire mission of Christ ---which is to save humankind from our sins and bring us into His divine life. Reason alone would seem to suggest that, until the end of this world, the saints in heaven would probably delight in praying for those of us on Earth still running the race. I think your interpretation of Hebrews 11 and 12 is way off the mark. The imagery is clearly of the Earthly Church running a race in a stadium and the saints of the past in the stands cheering us on. A plain reading of the text paints that picture. This "museum" interpretation is completely read into the text. There is absolutely no "museum" imagery in the text at all. Secondly, if you look at the verb tenses, it is clear that those who are in the "hall of faith" are presently surrounding us. Furthermore, museums didn't exist when Hebrews was written, but coliseums and olympic games did. Lastly, I don't think races occur in museums, do you? In the Rich Man and Lazarus parable, the rich man still has knowledge of what's going on on Earth. At the very least, he has knowledge of his family and five brothers are still in danger of internal condemnation. In 2 Maccabees 12, which was in the Bible until the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, there is an episode in which the Jewish army surveys the battlefield after combat with the Greeks and discovers that some of their fallen soldiers have pagan medallions underneath their clothing. They immediately stop and offer prayers for them (even though they are dead). Even if you don't accept this book as part of the Canon, it shows that prior to the rise of Christianity, the Jews practiced praying for the dead. A tradition that would continue in early Christianity. As early as 200 AD, there are inscriptions in the Catacombs asking various Saints for their prayers. The practice of asking for a Saint's intercession goes back to the very beginning of Christianity. It would be hard to imagine that within the first 100 years of the early Church such a heretical doctrine would become the norm. Finally, in 1 Corinthians 15:29, St. Paul makes reference to an early Christian practice of Baptizing someone for the dead. He does not condemn this practice, but for whatever reason the practice didn't continue for very long. Never the less, this brief mention shows that even St. Paul believed that we can do things on earth that effect those who have passed away to the next life. If you're a Catholic....do research. Our Church was founded by Christ 2000 years ago. There are extremely good reasons for all Catholic teaching. All of it is backed by Scripture, history, reason, and the Tradition passed down by the Church Fathers and great theologians of the Church.

I have no problem if people who are Catholic. However, many teachings that Catholics teach simply do not extend back to the early church as they claim. For example, transubstantiation was clearly NOT taught by several early church fathers and none of them held this view. However, I am okay if Christians want to believe in transubstantiation if they want as long as they don’t force me to believe in that to be a Christian.

InspiringPhilosophy debunked the pagan holiday claims. It was originally an Easter hare, not a rabbit. Eggs developed out of peasants eating them after Lent. The gods that you claim Easter is named after stopped being worshipped way before the name changed. The other possibility is Eoster, but the only reference to this goddess comes from St Bede, and most historians think he was mistaken. Easter was originally called “Pascha”, but was later changed due to the German month Easter was on, Eastermonath. As for Christmas, it’s not pagan, hopefully you got the point with Easter. The Catholic Church is the original Church. You can find Catholic teachings way before Constantine, and even the Apostolic Fatherz, men who knew the Apostles, wrote about Catholic doctrines

Here's a difference of definitions matters. Catholics, Orthodox and really the entire Church for 1600 years viewed salvation as a process(do a Greek study of the words saved and salvation). The overall process of saved, justified, sanctified and glorified fit under Salvation. Only during the last 500 years did it become Salvation as a single moment

Sacraments are not works of mercy but rather the spiritual manifesting in the realest connection with God; that is baptism, marriage, communion, confession. It’s something transcendent and necessary. Remember: faith without works is dead. The sacraments is definitely mot a free pass to heaven.

Do you see that faith was cooperating with his works, and that by means of works faith was brought to fulfillment? And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says: "Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice." And so he was called the friend of God. Justin Martyr wrote before 165ad the description of how early christians worshiped and it is the description of the mass we catholics celebrate every day. He even describes the Eucharist saying “we do not receive these things as common bread or common drink;...so we also HAVE BEEN TAUGHT that the food consecrated by the word of prayer which comes from him (God), from which our flesh and blood are nourished by transformation, is the flesh and blood of that incarnate Jesus.” The Catholic church didn’t make these up for no reason. They were taught by the apostles. The Church has protected these teachings.

Clement of Rome, who was taught directly by Peter and Paul; wrote about the Preeminence of Rome, and Apostolic Succession. Ignatius of Antioch, who was taught by John; mentions Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and mentions the Catholic Church. He says it isn’t a Church without clergy, or a Eucharist without clergy. He also wrote that Rome holds the presidency. Irenaeus, the first to name the four Gospels on record, wrote about Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Apostolic Succession, Tradition, etc. They also wrote about Sunday worship. And losing salvation. Read early works like the Didache or Wpistle of Barnabas, or ProtoEvangellium of James, or Odes of Solomon; written during the Apostolic times. They all say very Catholic things.

Ignatius of Antioch (taught directly by the Apostle John): See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there, let the multitude of the people also be; even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. ((Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Chapter 8). Ignatius, also called Theophorus, to the Church that has found mercy in the greatness of the Most High Father and in Jesus Christ, his only son; to the Church beloved and enlightened after the love of Jesus Christ, our God, by the will of him that has willed everything which is; to the Church which also holds the presidency in the place of the country of the Romans, worthy of God, worthy of honor, worthy of blessing, worthy of praise, worthy of success, worthy of sanctification, and because you hold the presidency of love, named after Christ and named after the Father; here therefore do I salute in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father. Introduction (Letter to the Romans). Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it (Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Chapter 8). Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ, which has come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God. . . . They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the Flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes (Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Chapter 6). In like manner let everyone respect the deacons as they would respect Jesus Christ, and just as they respect the bishop as a type of the Father, and the presbyters [priests] as the council of God and college of Apostles. Without these, it cannot be called a church (Letter to the Trallians, Chapter 2). Those indeed, who belong to God and to Jesus Christ-they are with the bishop. And those who repent and come to the unity of the Church-they too shall be of God. . . . Do not err my brethren: if anyone follow a schismatic, he will not inherit the Kingdom of God. . . . Take care, then, to use one Eucharist, so that whatever you do, you do according to God: for there is one flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one cup in the union of His Blood; one altar as there is one bishop with the presbytery and my fellow servants, the deacons (Letter to the Philadelphians, Chapter 3). To be deep in history is to cease being Protestant

I disagree also with some Protestants regarding SOLA SCRIPTURE (Scripture/Bible Alone)... Remember the Individual Written Holy Scriptures (not compiled or Bible/Book yet) of the N.T. were completed around 110 A.D. after the Gospel of John and the Revelation were translated into Greek Language and distributed in the Early 7 Churches of God in Asia Minor of the 1st Cent. A.D. ... CHRISTIANITY started around 30 or 33 A.D. after the Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Christ Jesus back to Heaven without the "WRITTEN WORD of God" (Individual Collections of the Holy Scriptures)... The Earliest Epistles/Letters of Paul, and Peter were around 60 - 65 A.D., before they were Martyrdom around 65 - 67 A.D., respectively. The Gospel of Mark and Matthew started only after the 2nd Temple was destroyed by the Roman Empire around 70 A.D. ... Therefore, NO Written Gospels for around 40 Years of Christianity... St. Paul clearly said, "HOLD FIRMLY with both the SPOKEN/ORAL and WRITTEN TRADITIONS" (ref. 2 Thessa. 2:15)... What I am against with the R.C.C. is putting the SPOKEN/ORAL TRADITION including Pope's Doctrines/dogmas above/beyond/exceed the WRITTEN TRADITION... St. Paul clearly warned us all, "DO NOT GO BEYOND/EXCEED WHAT IS WRITTEN."... (ref. 1 Corin. 4:6)... or else... God's CURSE (Anathema/Eternal Damnation/ Condemnation) to those who do." (ref. Galatians 1:8)... As long as the SPOKEN/ORAL Tradition does not go beyond/exceed what is WRITTEN (Holy Scriptures), then that is fine for Christians to practice from Generation to Generation up till now... however, if it does, the WRITTEN Tradition must overrule, supersede, and stop/cease the Christain practice... that is GOD's WILL be done... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen.

I remember my mom shouting, "YOU MURDERED YOUR BABIES?!!! I remember also speaking with my sister's aunt, and she is also a devout catholic... she was incredibly kind but it seemed she felt we needed to work off our sins and go to church in order to be saved and participate in the eucharist and baptisms and things of that nature. Hi Allen, you were one of the first Christian KZbinrs I watched since I became a believer. I always supported you, as you are very well-spoken. I may not be the most knowledgeable person here. However, by God's grace, I did my own research into church history and learned about the early Ante-Nicene Church Fathers along. Many writings I've read from the early Christian church sound like what the Catholic Church is today, especially with church authority, church unity, the Eucharist, etc... I never knew about church history or even the protestant reformation. Perhaps, we are the ones who are wrong. Perhaps we should return to original Christianity rather than the new versions of Christianity that teach newer doctrines today. I had many objections, but after prayer, researching, and reading the bible, I don't see how I can stay here. I would encourage everyone to continue to seek God and search for the fullness of truth. There are many misconceptions about Catholics that many of us are taught by people who are against the Catholic church. At the very least, listen to Catholic defenses against these accusations rather than only hearing from one side. That seems fair to avoid being biased. I know it might seem scary/challenging/uncomfortable, but it's worth studying since we broke off from the catholic church after all. Here are some questions we should ask: -Did God only leave us with the bible, or a bible and a Church? -Did God let His Church go corrupt? Was it ever his church in the first place? -What happened to Christianity after the apostles died? -Are newer denominations currently trying to reinvent the wheel when the Catholic Church already figured it out? -Are we 21st-century Christians going to say we know more about true Christianity than the early Church fathers (Clement of Rome, Polycarp, Irenaeus, Ignatius of Antioch, Athanasius, etc) did? -If we trust the early church to give us the canon, or even the doctrine of the Trinity, why can't we trust them for anything else? -Why are protestant denominations disputing over elementary teachings that we were told to move on from a long time ago in the book of Hebrews. (Hebrews 6:1)? -Is it possible that God already revealed some revelations of scripture to his faithful servants long ago before we got here? If so, how is their interpretation different from our personal interpretations today? In what ways are they similar? And when searching for the answers, we must be sure to hear from BOTH sides. I believe God loves all of us and He wants us to grow in knowledge and wisdom. He wants us to seek him: Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 7:7-8, Hebrews 11:6. These verses show that God wants us to seek him! So let's get our backpacks and binoculars and start hiking. I know most of us are already comfortable with our own church that we have been brought up in, but perhaps it's time to start asking deep questions about our faith to truly know why we believe what we have been told. Good theology matters. Bad theology can hurt us in the end. Jesus truly loves us, so if there is a possibility that the version of Christianity we have been taught today isn't the same as the original, we have the right to know. If we have been taught by teachers who came before us and passed down new teachings to us and now we are taught to hate the catholic church, we at least owe it to ourselves to find out if we have been led astray or not. God bless you all and may He bring us into more truth, knowledge, and understanding

’m going to DESTROY Allen Parr’s arguments: 1. Praying to the dead James 5:16 "Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful". This is actually used by Catholic for prayers of certain people being more powerful. You see that the prayers of the righteous are powerful, but Jesus clearly says that there are greatest and least in the Kingdom. Therefore, those that are more righteous, have more powerful prayers. God is more likely to give more graces based off of their prayers. Them being more righteous is precisely the reason we ask for their prayers. For example, in Job; Job’s friends are told to ask Job to pray for them, and only then would God relent. Moses prays for the people of Israel, and then God does not destroy them. The people of Israel could not bring rain, but Elijah, was able too. Abraham prayed for Pharaoh, and God saved Pharaoh’s house. After the people had leprosy, Moses prayed for them: Numbers 21:7-8 And the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you; pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. [8] And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” Elijah prayed for the life of the child of the widow woman, who was righteous herself, giving Elijah food. Elisha also prayed and the Lord heard him in the same way. This is very clear in the Scriptures. Secondly, you misinterpret Hebrews. Hebrews 11:32 mentions righteous people who were already dead: “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets,” Then it mentions Martyrs: Hebrews 11:35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Hebrews 12:1-2 finally says: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Does this merely say that we can look to the holy loves of the people of the past to encourage us, like you say? No. It says to “throw off everything that hinders” onto them. Pray tell how we do that just by “looking at their lives”. It is in the context of them cheering from the stands of a chariot race, that is the symbolism. People, some that are dead, cheering you on. Meaning they see your life. Next, they are described as a “cloud”, turning your attention to heaven, obviously, Next, Revelation 5:8 says: “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.” First of all, the twenty four elders are Christians in heaven. All Biblical scholars basically agree. They are clothed in white, have crowns, etc. You don’t engage with this verse, and try to skip past it. Secondly, they “carry the prayers” of the Saints, to God. Meaning they clearly know of the prayers, and bring them to God. Does this not sound like intercession? In fact, you don’t understand this in the first century Jewish context. The Jews went to the graves of the Tzadikim (righteous ones), and then prayed there. They believed that the Tzadkim would intercede for them to God. And that they “carried their prayers” to God, symbolically meaning intercession. So, if you understand the Jewish term, then you understand why this verse means what it does. The Talmud and Mishnah both speak of this. Another Revelation verse talks about angels doing this in the form of incense. Some Rabbis believed that you could pray directly to the dead, some thought they only carried the prayers, etc. But Apostolic Tradition says that we can pray directly to them. We don’t believe in Scripture Alone, and hold also to the Teaching and Preaching of the Apostles, passed down through the Church, in the form of Apostolic Tradition, which is also the Word of God. Also, this is not “necromancy”, necromancy is seeking hidden knowledge through supernatural means, apart from God. However, the flow of information is in the reverse, in this practice. And it is all done through God, so it can’t be apart from God.

2. Praying for the dead/Purgatory First of all, 2 Maccabees has been Scripture for centuries, until Martin Luther removed 7 Books from the Bible Canon, because they didn’t agree with his own personal interpretation of Scripture. You don’t deny that it clearly teaches praying for the dead. Secondly, you misunderstand Purgatory. Only the saved go to Purgatory, to be purified, before entering heaven. To be purified specifically of Temporal Punishment. Or the effects of sin on the sinner and the world, that must have punishment and purification, before entering heaven, which you must be perfectly cleansed to enter. The Bible clearly says that Christians still must suffer for sin, and that God chastises us. Paul mentions the things that are lacking in the afflictions of Christ. That would be temporal punishment, or the effects of sin. This is why, for example, Tobit says almsgiving forgives sin, or the Temporal Punishment. Christ’s Sacrifice remits Eternal Punishment. And, Temporal Punishment can only be remitted through and because of Christ, by Uniting yourself to his Cross. It is satanic not to take up your Cross, and follow Him. Is it not clear that some Christians still die with unhealthy and worldly attachments, and need purification before entering heaven? My main point however, is that Purgatory does not change your eternal destination. If you go to Purgatory, you are saved, you just need the “Final Purification”, before entering heaven. Therefore, you are judged before this, and you aren’t “crossing the chasm”, you are already going to heaven. So your point is nought. The New Testament does in fact mention this as well. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13 the work of each will come to light, for the Day* will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire [itself] will test the quality of each one’s work.f 14 If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. 15 But if someone’s work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved,* but only as through fire.
@kyrptonite18256 ай бұрын
3. Transubstantiation This has to be the worst of your responses. The bread and wine become the Body and Blood, so of course, Jesus isn’t literally taking off His Flesh, and feeding it to them. But He does say, “This is My Body”, in the very verse you qoute. And “This is My Blood”. In John 6, Jesus says you must Eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood. Then, people ask “how can this be?”. He even loses disciples in John 6:66. The only time this is recorded happening. Nobody thought that Jesus was speaking literally when saying He was a Gate. However, they all think so here. And notice, that Jesus never corrects them. In fact, when He is alone with the Apostles, whom He normally explained these things too, he never says He was speaking metaphorically. The Romans unalived Christians calling them cannibals for this. You act the same as these men. This is not that. As one, cannibalism removes a part of the substance. Jesus isn’t having holes put into him during this, up in heaven. They eat dead flesh, the Eucharist is Living. And they do it for physical nourishment, but this is Spiritual Nourishment.
@kyrptonite18256 ай бұрын
4. Mortal and Venial Sin First, you misunderstand James. “What James means when he says that whoever fails on one point of the law is guilty of breaking all of it is not that all humans are equally guilty if they sin once-then there would be no difference in the levels of punishment people would receive, yet Jesus says there will be (Lk 12:47-48; cf. Mt 10:15, 11:22-24). What James means is that anyone who breaks one point of the law is guilty of breaking the law itself, of breaking it as an entity. To give an analogy, anyone who breaks one part of a plate is guilty of breaking the plate. He may not have broken every part of it-smashed it into pieces-but he is guilty of breaking the plate as a whole. In the same way, a person who breaks one law has broken the law as a whole; he has become a lawbreaker, which is James’s point, as is clear from the next verse: “For he who said, `Do not commit adultery,’ said also, `Do not kill.’ If you do not commit adultery but do kill, you have become a transgressor of the law” (Jas 2:11). This means all of us need mercy and therefore need to be merciful (Jas 2:12-13).” Mortal and Venial sin are cleary taught in the Bible: 1 John 5:17: “All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.” Yet all sins don’t lose salvation: “We all stumble in many ways” (Jas 3:2). Paul himself lists types of sins that cause you to “not Inherit the Kingdom of God”.

Don't worry, as a catholic I really enjoy your videos. And the way you expose your points are very nicely done. Nevertheless all your points have already been answered many times. Short answer : either Jesus told the truth when he promised the Paraclet would teach and enlight the Church with all that Jesus didn't explain. Either Jesus lied and the Church can be corrupted. But then you encounter a big problem as the Bible, and specially the New Testament, can't be taken as the Word of God as it took 5 centuries for the Church to select the legit books that compose the New Testament. To sum up, there is no rational way to believe the Bible is telling the truth if you claim the authority under which it has been elaborated can be corrupted. Why would it be corrupted for its teachings, but would be infaillible when it comes for the Bible? 2) Amongst the argument you oppose to the catholic faith there is a false fact. There is no way the catholic faith would believe a saint is more efficient than an other. A Saint is just a member of the big spiritual family called the Church, an exemple to follow, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father, a close friend. Saints are the branches of the vine. You assume the part of the Gospel about Lazarus is hell. Nothing in the text says the selfish condition of the rich man is eternal. Specially as the rich man is starting to show compassion towards his brothers. 3) Amongst the false understandings you expose about your the catholic faith the mortal sin is very very sad. Even if you first recall what is a mortal sin : not only it requires a serious matter, but it's a sin you commit with the FULL and FREE will to sin, fully knowing it's a mortal sin and you have no repent before your death, you end by reducing the mortal sin to a formal and serious act with no consideration for freedom and consciousness of the sinner. Let's take masturbation for instance. It is indeed a matter where a mortal sin can be committed. But the act in itself is not enough. If the freedom of the sinner is reduced (addiction, anxiety), or doesn't he have any knowledge that it is a mortality sin, there is no mortal sin. So in any doubt go to confession. Not only Jesus himself did forgive sins through a personal encounter, but "whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." 4) when Jesus asks the sinner not to sin anymore, he indeed asks for a human cooperation with His Grace.

The Rosary in the title… The Rosary is literally made to Contemplate the Mysteries of the Faith while praying. Like the Resurrection, the Crucifixion, etc. On the certain liturgical days for them (even Jews had a liturgical reading system). Vain repititions are different from repetitions in general. Jesus gave us the Our Father, and the Cherubim say the same words repeatedly. What a gain repetition is, what the first century pagans were doing, was believing that empty rituals, would “force” a “god” into hearing a prayer, by annoying them. God doesn’t mind you saying “I love you”, hundreds of times. However, the point Jesus is making, is that you actually have to mean the words you pray, and not just throw words out, not meaning it. They seem to forget this.

Let him bring in the priests of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him.” Matrimony Matthew 19:4-6 - “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. @randycarson98126 ай бұрын
*Point #1: Praying to the Saints* Catholics recognize that there is only one Body of Christ and that all believers are members of that Body. We ask those who have already run the race and won the prize (cf. 1 Cor 9:24) to pray for us who are still working out our salvation with “fear and trembling”. (cf. Phil 2:12) The saints are alive, not dead. (Mk 12:26-27) The saints are aware of our prayers and needs. (cf. Lk 15:10, Heb 12:1, Rev 5:8) The saints are righteous, and their prayers are effective. (cf. Rev 21:27, Jam 5:16) Scripture is silent on the question of asking saints to pray for us which is NOT necromancy. Therefore, we are free to do so. Since not all prayer is worship, asking the saints to pray for us is not worship.

The main problem here is that Mr. Parr has no more authority to interpret and teach Scripture than anyone else who can open a Bible. Agreed. Nobody has that authority, but understanding and interpretation come from the Lord to those who ask it of Him. It is not reserved only for the pope and catholic bishops and priests or Protestant pastors and seminarians. And His Word remains the most sure witness of His Will revealed to us, above and beyond the commentaries of men. It shall outlive the lives and verbose tomes of men. Any opinions and conclusions, written, spoken, and otherwise must be weighed against, and founded in, the whole of His counsel. If any interpretation, opinion or suggestion contradicts His counsel in the slightest way, it is not of Him, and is a seed of confusion. I deplore the existence of denominational rifts in the body that must be one, but it is as a result of people leaning on their own understanding, rather than letting God interpret His word to give understanding. We are to be like Joseph, when he interpreted Pharoah’s dreams: he leaned on the Lord, and not himself.

I think there were a lot of misconceptions in this video (like saying that Protestants treat the Lord's supper as a remembrance which is not the case for the magisterial reformers, a sort of equivocation on the doctrine of the real presence and transubstantiation, the translation being used in the video is not great since, for example l, "to him" does not appear in the Greek text of 1 John 1:9, etc) that are pretty easy to respond to. It is so important to read the Bible for yourself. I can really appreciate this video because so many wonderful Christians are being mislead by one religion or another one saying or another things that have been associated with or said to be scripture that aren't scripture and it's important to address. This like any other teaching on scripture should align with what you read in the Bible.
@masonshirley40516 ай бұрын
Your suggestion is literally the reason why there are thousands of different Christian denominations. The Church existed before the Bible. The Bible is inspired, but it also needs an inspired interpreter. The concept of "everyone just read the Bible for yourself" is a modern day teaching found nowhere in history until the protestant reformation.

This is a broad generalization and I’m sure I will hear about it, but The Catholic Church is more about the church itself, the power and influence it has, than it is about Jesus. No church is perfect, but any church that claims your access to God is only through what happens ‘here’ within these walls is way off base.

@@ccsluf Correct, but in Aristotelian philosophy Substance is not physical, it is spiritual. The accidents are what is physical. So the accidents (physical) of bread and wine point to the substance(spiritual) of bread and wine, then the “Transubstantiation” happens and the accidents of bread and wine points to the substance of Christ’s flesh and blood. To me this is one of the problems with the term. Because we are materialists and to us substance means physical the language of Transubstantiation is extremely confusing. However as the doctrine was originally developed it has never been the “physical” flesh and blood of Christ.

So what was your family's excuse and yours for not reading Scripture The Church forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ. Catechism Of the Catholic Church😎😎 Pope St. Gregory I (died 604 AD) “The Emperor of heaven, the Lord of men and of angels, has sent you His epistles for your life’s advantage-and yet you neglect to read them eagerly. Study them, I beg you, and meditate daily on the words of your Creator. Learn the heart of God in the words of God, that you may sigh more eagerly for things eternal, that your soul may be kindled with greater longings for heavenly joys.” Pope Clement XI (1700 - 1720) To forbid Christians to read Sacred Scripture, especially the Gospels, is to forbid the use of light to the sons of light, and to cause them to suffer a kind of excommunication. Pope Pius VI (April 1st 1778 AD) “the faithful should be excited to the reading of the Holy Scriptures: for these are the most abundant sources which ought to be left open to every one, to draw from them purity of morals and of doctrine” Pope Pius VII (1800 - 1823) "encourage their people to read the Holy Scriptures ; for nothing can be more useful, more consoling, and more animating, because they serve to confirm the faith, to support the hope, and to influence the charity of the true Christian." Pope Leo XIII (1893) “The solicitude of the apostolic office naturally urges and even compels us…to desire that this grand source of Catholic revelation (the Bible) should be made safely and abundantly accessible to the flock of Jesus Christ” Pope Pius X (1903 - 1914) “Nothing would please us more than to see our beloved children form the habit of reading the Gospels - not merely from time to time, but every day.” Pope Benedict XV (1914 - 1922) “Our one desire for all the Church’s children is that, being saturated with the Bible, they may arrive at the all-surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ” Pope Pius XII (1943) “... This author of salvation, Christ, will men more fully know, more ardently love and more faithfully imitate in proportion as they are more assiduously urged to know and meditate the Sacred Letters, especially the New Testament ...” Pope John Paul II (1979) “catechesis must be impregnated and penetrated by the thought, the spirit and the outlook of the Bible and the Gospels through assiduous contact with the texts themselves” Pope Benedict XVI (2006) “I urge you to become familiar with the Bible, and to have it at hand so that it can be your compass pointing out the road to follow. By reading it, you will learn to know Christ.” Pope Francis (2015) “The Bible is not meant to be placed on a shelf, but to be in your hands, to read often - every day, both on your own and together with others” Gee, good thing you don’t like condescending emails, right? Anyway, I am not rebuking God’s Word, I am rebuking man’s word and, in particular, I am rebuking your word. Your fallible, man-made, non-authoritative, biased and bigoted word. You speak of the “laughable infallible teachings of the [M]agisterium,” yet you tend to also speak as if you yourself are infallible. Where Parr gets it wrong is that all of his positions assume that the Bible is the foundation of the Christian faith, which it is obviously not ( 1 Tim 3:15 - "The Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth"). Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus appeal to a "Bible" (instead, you see the first century Christians appealing to the Church). Nowhere does Jesus hand the apostles a set of books and says, "This is the authority of the faith." Instead, he established a Church built on the apostles, whereby it was that Church, through the Holy Spirit, which gave us the Bible. Don't get me wrong, the Bible is essential to our faith, but Parr's post-modernist and post-printing press concept of Christianity, which is devoid of its necessary first-century Jewish context, is flawed.

I know many Catholics who are sincere in their faith and I cannot say they're not reborn in Christ. What I found most disturbing about catholicism is the worship of Mary and praying to saints. Mary was no more holy than you or me. She was fully human, used by God to carry out His plan of salvation, which is stated by Jesus many times: believe in Him and be saved. He taught us to pray, "our Father..." not "our mother", "hail Mary", or "dear Peter, Paul, or Mary". I do not mean to be contentious in any way for I was a devout Catholic and understand your stance. You should definitely actually read about Catholicism, and become Catholic again. No Church = No way to know which Books belong in the Bible Which means you base your doctrines on something where you don’t know what is actually Scripture
@kyrptonite18256 ай бұрын
The point is that you cannot know the Canon without an Authority to specifically tell you what it is. It doesn’t matter that it wasn’t completely closed at Rome, this is where it was Promulgated. It was later finally Solemnly Defined at Trent (Catholics never needed a closed Canon, since we have Tradition). However, the point still stands that the Jews had five major traditions of the OT at the time of Jesus, and that only two (Sadducee, Samaritan), were closed. And that there’s wasn’t closed until centuries after Christ. And that early Christian writings heavily outweigh the New Testament, some even attributing Apostolic Authorship to themselves (a criteria given specifically by the Church, that isn’t itself found in Scripture), that Scripture itself doesn’t have a List of Canonical Books found within it, and that it wasn’t just Written by one man, but is multiple Books. We know the early Christians disagreed on the Canon bc of their Writings. We don’t even know the Authors for a couple NT Books. And even then, using Traditions from the Fathers, while ignoring others would be cherry-picking. So would be accepting some things in some Councils, but not others. Which wouldn’t even work, since Luther denies the DeuterOCanonicals. Even historical science cannot give us a Canon, bc modern historians would disagree with each other, and disagree on Books in the Protestant Canon. In fact, for some Books, like the DeuterOCanonicals, or others, or Books like Hebrews, there’s not really a good historical way to know if these are Scriptural. Therefore, the point is that without an Infallible Authority (the Church, to point out a Canon, if you are Protestant, you simply cannot know what is Scriptural for sure, which undermines the only infallible Protestant authority, and therefore, Protestantism itself. Historical evidence is also changing with new discoveries. That’s the point.
