The BIOGRAPH CD boxset by Bob Dylan is considered to be the very first CD boxset (Oct. '85), and it kicked off the arms race of popular artists releasing CD boxsets. I remember the LED ZEPPELIN boxset with the crop circle on its cover. Also, CROSSROADS by Eric Clapton. The Doors movie directed by Oliver Stone came out in the early nineties, and by then The Doors were popular again, but think they released a greatest hits 2-CD set, not a boxset. Pink Floyd's SHINE ON boxset came out in the early nineties as well. Man, now I feel the need to start collecting CD boxsets. LOL

@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews A lot of popular music from the '60s and '70s was reintroduced to a whole new audience of younger music listeners (like me) in the early nineties because of the CD format, in particular greatest hits CDs and especially because of CD boxsets. For example, I bought Bob Marley's LEGEND, THE BEST OF BOB MARLEY in college in the early nineties, and listened to that disc until it was scratched to death.

Those Beatles Capitol boxes are absolutely the best. The US releases on Capitol were mixed slightly differently for the American market and, to my ears, sound better then the UK mixes which tend to sound rather "dead." The Capitol boxes are my go-to Beatles recordings.

Oh man, my all time favorite singer Judy Garland! Love her, I think her best performance is The Man That Got Away from A Star Is Born. And if you have only one country singer in a music collection, you gotta go with Patsy Cline, wonderful voice. I have a CD set from the STAX artists, do you have that one Kenny?

The cool thing about box sets is that they often contain unreleased and multiple takes of popular songs, and those booklets can't be beat. Over the years I have been able to find some excellent box sets from various sources. A gold mine was an established record shop that was going out of business in the late 90's and were practically giving away merchandise for pennies. I won't list them all but my most prized box sets are the STAX singles1959 to 1968 and 1968 to1971 which are 2 separate sets with 9 CD's each. Malaco's "The Last Soul Company" has 6 CD's. Hitsville USA (Motown) has 2 different box sets with 4 CD's each...1959 to 1971 and 1972 to 1992. Barry White...Sam Cooke...Chicago...Earth, Wind and Fire..Crusaders..Temptations Anthology...B.B.King, and many others. What I always find so fascinating is the number of old blues and R n B songs that were sampled. I pointed out to some 90's rap lovers that Chub Rock's " Just the Two of Us" was Albert King's "Cold Feet" from the 60's. Every chance I get to point out a sample I rub it in!!😀😀

I am surprised you do not have anything from Elvis Presley. The guy was an extraordinary singer with no equal ever. His voice could evoke an emotional response in even someone like me. I am sure he could step into the shoes of an opera singer or a jazz singer with ease. He was some kind of a freak as far as talent goes.

you reminded me i need to get some patsy cline in my collection. she only made 3 albums before she died in the crash so its pretty easy to get all her stuff. her 2nd album "showcase" has a vinylmeplease ryan k smith remaster vinyl version.

Really enjoyed the video, what CD player do you use and how does the sound compare with your vinyl playback

My main CD player is a sony XA9000ES SACD/CD player along with a Luxman DA-06 DAC. My main turntable is a Rega P8 turntable with a apheta 3 cartridge. I believe that vinyl playback the overwhelming majority of the time is superior to CD...but that is only my personal opinion.
