Used to listen to Capital from 539 to 194 and 95.8, my favourite was always Roger Scott. Loved the programme, especially Cruising on a Friday. Really miss him and his music. Thank you Roger.

Roger was a must listen to DJ when I was living in London during the1970's, he introduced me to Bruce Springsteen, for which I can never thank him enough. Indeed Roger sat behind me at Wembley in 1980 at Bruce's River tour show. A fitting tribute, thank you.

Roger Scott was one of my favourites, as were Dave Cash and Kenny Everett. All of the now gone, but I have never forgotten the joy these guys and their music and knowledge brought into my life.

Absolutely brilliant. Waited for years to see this. Roger was and is still 2nd to nobody. A Musical Giant. Great to see Dave Edmunds & Nick Lowe on here. Thanks.

Thank you putting this online. 30+ years later is still hurts that life is too short. To be a great DJ, like Roger, you have to have a passion and a personality that the listers feel. Boy we did, thank you. Such a super unique voice. For me radio stopped on that dreadful day.

One of my most treasured off-air recordings is about an hour of a 1978 Roger Scott afternoon show on Capital Radio - he starts with the hall of fame countdown playing songs by Neil Sedaka and the Platters etc and then goes on to the Hitline part of the show with chart songs of those days. I guess because he'd worked in American radio, Roger was just so much more slick than almost everyone at that time, or since, and his voice was made for the FM music radio genre. His ability to integrate talk and seamlessly link different music was a joy. When you compare the style of show that he did with what came afterward I think it's valid to feel that we lost something wonderful. RIP Roger.

I had the immense pleasure of talking to RS on the phone as an entrant to a Capital Radio competition about The Police for which I won a book which I still have. I was deeply miffed that none of my work colleagues heard it despite the radio being on at the time. Because of this very brief contact I received the news of Roger’s death with shock and sadness.

I was honoured and blessed to attend that actual event. It was emotional then and it still is now. I was late to Roger Scott fandom as I didn’t live in London, but it didn’t stop me being enthused by his radio programmes, which in turn cost me a fortune in buying music both old and new. There was something about his presentation skills, enthusiasm and knowledge that stood him apart from the rest. I still have a few recordings from Saturday afternoons and Sunday nights and, of course, an off air recording of this celebration. No doubt, the input of Phil Swern helped the choice of fantastic tracks but I am sure Roger would be telling Phil what he wanted to play. Roger wasn’t “just” a dj but someone who gave interest and enthusiasm to the rest of us mere mortals for music that wasn’t just for enjoyment but could affect you and send tingles down your spine remembering what it was like the first time you were introduced to these artists and songs. Radio isn’t about a standardised playlist but is about engaging with the audience, creating an atmosphere and helping the listener get through the day/night and to take our minds off the rest of world around us. Bland radio presentation is not good enough and Roger knew that and did something about it. Station managers and presenters today could do a lot worse than to listen to and learn from what Roger did. He is a great lamented loss to the family of broadcasters and listeners who feel like we are listening to our own respected friends that we invite into our homes every day. I thank you so much for sharing this video and keeping your father’s memory alive.

Great to find this, I so remember Roger Scott from my school years. The phone-in countdown every day was essential listening, my school band even got a mention prior to performing at the school band night. The mention was definitely better than the actual event that night. I remember Roger doing the Classic Albums series, i still browse the accompanying book at regular intervals - i don't suppose you've got a copy of the Hotel California episode? Always my favourite. So thanks for the great memories, you should be so proud of your Dad, all the happiness & memories he brought to so many people.

My Favorite Capital DJ and probably of all time. His great respect for Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys was unmistaken and always appreciated his interviews and historical insights about the band in his show Crusin' on a Friday afternoon and the tremendous lead up to Knebworth 1980. He was a large part of my musical journey during those young years in the late 1970's and early 1980's while I was still based in UK, in my life long love affair with the Boys (Beach). I left for the USA in August 1983 and unfortunately could not listen to Capital or hear Roger's familiar unmistakable voice that had carried me through much of my Teenage Years. Who could forget perhaps his most famous jingle - "Have a little piece of heaven with Roger Scott from 3 to 7, typically hearing the show from about 5.30pm until 7.00pm after getting home from school. In the mid 80's got to hear a syndicated show featuring Roger Scott while travelling to San Francisco CA. It was like a bolt of lighting with that oh so familiar voice connecting with me once again. In 1989 I had a job working in Pasadena CA on the desk of a News Bureau which basically was to scan and read newspapers primarily from the UK for articles of interest that could be used for the US audience. I was very shocked and saddened to read the obits in the Daily Telegraph about the passing of Roger in 1989. Its funny that is had such a big impact on me. Sadly he was the only Capital Radio DJ that I had never met (Having met favs Graham Dene and Mike Allen while in the UK) Hi legacy and musical impact on my life will never be forgotten.

Woww!!! It is a precious record, Mark on vocals in Feel like going home. Mark has a pretty emotional speech, talking about making The Notting Hillbillies album and specially the last song Feel like going home. This song has a very special meaning because Mark wanted Roger to have a listen to it, but sadly passed away before the track was finished and recorded. Thank you for sharing!!!

Being from Ireland, I think only longwave Radios would have picked up Capital from London back in the 80s, and most of us didn't have them then, we got all BBC Radio stations though of course. I wasn't aware of Roger Scott until 1996 when I came across a CD of an interview he did with Def Leppard in 1987. I'm catching up with more of his work now. I think he would have done great on internet radio today were he still around. Great Musical taste and i think he had that speaking voice that was perfect for a DJ, very relaxing to the listener. Were he recording Podcasts right now (which I think he would) they'd be hugely popular.
