Going back to school after overcoming ovarian cancer at the age of 40 (BRCA mutation). I decided to treat it holistically (aside from surgery). One of the hardest things was to know what to eat, and what to avoid and when etc. As nutrition was a huge part of my healing, I’m now studying nutritional science with the goal of helping other patients with cancer with their nutrition, whatever treatment modalities they choose. My biochemistry entry module brought me here. Thanks for the animations! I’m a visual learner so they’re so helpful ☺️

I have a question: If our brain cells can't grow that well, how does our brain grow? (Our brain always grows when we watch your videos, they're both informative and are super funny!)
@lukalv7890 Жыл бұрын
Think of your brain like a tree that's growing. When you're a baby, you have lots of tiny branches, which are like the brain cells. As you get older, your tree doesn't necessarily get a lot more branches, but the branches it has grow bigger and stronger. Here's how it works: Connection Strengthening: Your brain cells, called neurons, don't just grow; they get better at talking to each other. They make these little connections, sort of like bridges, that let them send messages super fast. These bridges are really important for when you're learning and remembering things. Insulation Wrapping: There are special coverings called myelin that wrap around the parts of your brain cells that send messages. It's like the insulation on a wire - it helps the messages go really fast. This wrapping keeps getting added as you grow up, which is part of why you can think and do things quicker when you're older than when you were a little kid. Helper Cells: There are also other types of cells in your brain that help out, kind of like a garden helper for your tree. They don't send messages but help the ones that do stay healthy and work right. Branching Out: The parts of the brain cells that pick up messages, called dendrites, grow out and reach for messages from other brain cells. It's like the branches of your tree reaching out for sunlight. Brain Building: Your brain gets really good at making things work better together. It sorts out which paths for messages are the best and makes sure they're super smooth, kind of like trimming the tree to make sure it grows strong and healthy. So even though you don't get lots of new brain cells as you grow up, the ones you have get way better at working together, and your brain builds lots of new pathways for your thoughts to travel on. That's how you can learn to do all sorts of cool things as you get bigger!
