Not a bad try. Good for you, sort of. My work mate did the race for the first time too. He works a proper job, full time. He also has never had a coach, has no support team and wasn't given an expensive bike to ride. He completed the harder high course and finished 39th to your 118th. He's also a true scotsman with a big red beard and drinks like a fish. Maybe Gymshark should think about sponsoring him. He's the Graham Obrea to your Chris Boardman.

This guy has done well. Sounds like your mate did really well also. Why not be happy for both of them?

@WDFT my friend is about the same age, and similar build to Fergus. He's never done a race like the celtman before, and as I said he has no coach and no support team. He has a full time job and bought his own average bike. He more or less did just 'rock up'. He didn't expect to thrash Fergus at all. We both followed Fergus and thought he was some sort of machine. Fergus did well but he hardly 'smashed it' did he. The lesson is, you don't need a huge support system to actually smash a race like this. Well done to Fergus and his team, but more well done to those who just did it.

@WDFT not 200kg+ deadlift and squat strong nowhere near. Fergus is a world class athlete
