The key difference between the SCP foundation and the GOC is the SCP Foundation CONTAINS anomalies. The GOC tries to DESTROY anomalies. And as we see with this SCP, trying to destroy an anomaly can just make the situation WORSE
@mobiusflammel9372
@mobiusflammel9372 2 ай бұрын
We also see that containment is not necessarily a long-term or reliable strategy either though. A significant number of anomalies have proven to be either beyond the foundation’s ability to contain reliably or at all. Which lends more credence to the idea that they need a more permanent solution, which may not be destruction in all or most cases but containment alone isn’t going to work forever.

Tbf, knowing the SCP foundation, this could very well be akin to propaganda. Morale for an organization where death by supernatural monsters is probably pretty common is likely often low, so you'll occasionally need something to cheer you up. Something like a higher purpose, like keeping the world save via containing SCPs which cause more harm when attacked, is probably what keeps these people going.

Best example of showing what could possibly happen had an SCP be terminated? absolutely. Best introduction to the GOC? Extremely debateable. More coherent and that expands into the perspective of the GOC would be the hub page for it, or a formal introduction to them via a video, rather than an incident log that many people overused as an example of the GOC being an "all incompetent ruthless chaotic monsters" which is far from the case in almost all articles they've been in.

This SCP touches on a theme that so many articles forget: that the "P" in "SCP Foundation" stands for "Protect". It's not just about protecting people from anomalies; sometimes it's about protecting the anomalies themselves. Not everything we can't understand is evil, and as much as some canons like to pretend otherwise, the Foundation knows that. Also, I give a huge endorsement for Volgun's video on SCP-1678, "UnLondon". It's a personal favorite of mine and the one I got introduced to his channel through.

Honestly, I kinda like the variety of having multiple good and bad stories in the foundation. Makes it feel more human in a way, where more often than not there’s just as likely a situation where one person’s hubris results in catastrophic repercussion and the death of many undeserving people, or because one person had the will to continuously fight back against an anomaly one on one, usually sacrificing themselves in order to protect not only the foundation, but the world itself. And then sometimes there’s just a monster Garfield that tries to attack Bill Murray. It’s fun

It's easy to remember the statue or the hard to destroy reptile, or the other horrifying monsters they contain. But they also have things like this chair, like the 2D woman, like the sentient computer program that is literally the best teacher in existence. For every nightmare inducing horror they have on that site, there is something adorable, pitiable or just plain friendly but odd. My favourite, but I can't remember the number, is a massive clockwork machine. It has four settings. Course, Rough, 1 to 1 and Fine. Run something through it and you get what you asked for. A scientist ran a chess set with all the pieces set up through 1 to 1 and started playing a game with the machine. That's adorable. The machine was winning. That's funny.

Close. The chair was part of a set, and the GOC agents used an incinerator to successfully destroy all of them other than SCP 1609. However, at that point, the incinerator malfunctioned, and one of the agents had the bright idea to try a woodchipper instead, rather than wait for the incinerator to get fixed.
@MarqFJA87
@MarqFJA87 Ай бұрын
@@dustinrausch5008 Yeah, there was also a note at the end from GOC high command that proclaims this fiasco as an example of why their agents *must* obey the SOP handed to them from on high, and not to cut corners when dealing with anomalies. Incinerator broke down before you could destroy the wooden anomaly? Then they should've secured some other way to quickly and efficiently burn said anomaly, even if a far more convenient but far more risky method of destruction (e.g. a woodchipper) is available on hand. It goes to show that the GOC, for all their flaws, aren't entirely stupid as a whole.

In addition to this, the wiki also has a report by the GOC on this thing. Apparently, this chair was part of a set, and the GOC successfully destroyed all of the others with an incinerator. However, when they got to SCP-1609, the incinerator broke, and an agent decided to get impatient/lazy and figured that a woodchipper would work just as well. The GOC also sees this SCP as a lesson. From their perspective, though, it's of the importance of actually getting the job done right. EDIT: Decided to find this info again for anyone who wanted to see it. It's under GOC Supplemental Threat Entities, and they refer to the chair as KTE-0937-Velveteen.

This SCP is the perfect example of why, when it comes to the various organizations in the SCP universe, the Foundation is the one you can always look at and say “Hey, at the very least they won’t make the problem worse.” Is the Foundation always the best choice for an SCP? No, not always, as some SCP’s do not react well to being experimented on or researched, etc, but at the end of the day the Foundation is at least never the _Worst_ choice.

If this SCP had been contained by the SCP foundation before they GOC got to it, they would probably have just put it in a facility far enough away from civillisation that it would only have teleported to people inside the facility. The GOC did have a reason to destroy the chair. While it didn't pose a physical threat, it did threaten to expose civilians to the supernatural. You said it yourself: If the chair can just teleport away whenever it feels like it, can you really consider it contained? I'm guessing it was more comfortable wandering around before it was traumatized. There is also the matter of how scary the chair looks. If you were tired and suddenly that chair teleported behind you, you might be a bit distressed. The GOC figured that they could solve the problem permanently in an afternoon with a woodchipper. Obviously, they didn't anticipate that it would survive the attempt to destroy it. Nor did they realize that it was sentient and capable of hostility. The GOC prefers to destroy the supernatural rather than study or contain it. This is what happens when their policy goes wrong. On the other hand, the Foundation will risk the lives of D-class, researchers, and security to try to contain and research anomalies that could escape containment and threaten innocents. They may very well be able to destroy many dangerous SCPs, but they are philosophically opposed to doing so unless absolutely necessary. This SCP highlights the different philosophies and the dangers of reckless destruction.

0:42 "What the fuck is that chair?!" You'd probably react poorly to the sudden appearance of the helpful chair. I wonder if other civilians might lash out at the haunted demon chair. The chair would probably just teleport away prior to its traumatic destruction, but I could easily see it going poorly. Gentle containment was a better strategy in hindsight.

... How did they even convince this thing to stay in one place in the first place? It seems like this thing could have and would be teleporting around likely following around a target or switching from target to target. What I'd like to know however is the why. Why stick around? Why move around? I could see why it would move around if it had some promise of repair/preservation. If it wants to be used or otherwise made useful in some way, it seems that it would be just as useful if they turned a small park into a break room that must always be used.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Foundation had a different goal when dealing with anomalies? Right now they try to Secure Contain and Protect the world from anomalies. But what if they instead tried to integrate them into society? SCP 4999 is a little tragic but I still like it. The Three Moons Initiative is not an SCP but a group of interest in the SCP universe. SCP 5999 This is Where I Died, very creepy but a really good read/listen.

Hey Alicia! I’ve really been enjoying your SCP content, and I was wondering if you would react to the SCP: Sedition series by Tats Topvideos? It’s a series on exploring the SCPs in a more in-depth and natural way, think less science report and more live field interviews. It’s really well acted and animated, and has probably one of the best depictions of SCP-035 I’ve ever seen! It is a series though and has other videos concerning other SCPs, from SCP-682 to SCP-079. Even if you just react to one of them it would really be an amazing experience, and I hope you will enjoy it.

Since you're getting into SCP content, might I suggest The Mender by Volt Jolt? It's a little pixel animation here on KZbin and I really like it, as it has a genuinely happy ending, a rarity in the SCP universe.

@Alicia now that you know about the GOC its time you learn about thd Chaos Insurgency, Church of the Broken God, Are We Cool Yet, and other groups of interest.

I just found out that Alicia had 0 knowledge about all the Group of Interest because none of the video she watched is introducing other groups of people that is also dealing with SCP. The only group she knew is SCP Foundation. Why??? Almost all the Group of Interest are fun to learn, such as GOC,Manna Charitable foundation, Church of the Broken God,Prometheus Lab,MC&D Ltd, Serpent's Hand and Dr.Wondertainment.

GOC defence would you like a arg style analog horror trope to be running around the world killing people then contain that monster and have the potential to escape and do it again like let say shy guy or peanut or even that bell
