I am very lucky and blessed to have been utterly broken by self and left with no other choice than to give my life to a Higher Power. Having said that, my small self still leads me around by the nose sometimes. It is right now actually and I really wanna be free. I’m obsessing!!! Bluh. He’s right. It isn’t real. But still has power over me sometimes.

It's been a little over 26 years after that experience. Still affirming that God is inside of ourselves, and not where we were taught He was. My life today is more contemplative than anything else. Not everyday is perfect, but knowing the Source is always there is comforting. My ego still exist which at times makes me feel disconnected from the Higher Authority, and knowing this always brings me back to the solution, that being God Himself. What is still painful is the point that I can't bring anyone to the point of crossing over the threshold to Union with God. This is the Dark Night of the Soul experience for me. All my teachings had to be cast aside so that I could experience God's Love and having a pure relationship with Him. The Fire still burns in a healing way. What poisons I encounter in today's social and political sense causes me sadness is destructive toward my meditation. The world has too many egos that battle each other. This makes God unhappy, at least that's what I hear in meditation. Serenity prayer and St. Francis prayer are life savers toward the greater good. I just accept that everyone has to fall in life in order to surrender to the Great Reality in each of us.

Ray Holstein I think that no one can teach secret of falling in God or true self, only reality or God himself can lead there. It is not easy to find and alow this fall in Love.
@rayholstein7108
@rayholstein7108 7 жыл бұрын
In somewhat of a paradox and humorous way, it felt the experience I went through was by accident. A drowning man will reach for the last straw. Humor the last straw, was God Himself. At that point I felt that God did not exist, and prayer didn't seem to work in my turmoil. It was truly the darkest point in my life, and I hate to admit that suicide seemed to be the only option. The burning flame turned out for me, to be a purging of my idea of God, a transference and cleansing of my soul. That experience was mystical at it's core. Growing through journey of mystical persuasion of His Love, is sometimes a lonely encounter, and we who have been there, may find it difficult to find others who might have had the same experience. Nonetheless, we are not alone in God's infinite Love and Union. Writings by St. John of the Cross, and St. Theresa of Avila, Thomas Merton, and a host of others, including Richard Rohr help in battling the dreaded aloneness one can feel when experiencing the mystical path. Ironically, even certain songs brings me into contemplation. Lyrics like: "You've got to walk that lonesome valley. You've got to walk it by yourself". Another song lyric: "I fell into to a burning Ring of Fire....". These experiences are truly an "Amazing Grace". Have a great and gracious journey Agris. Oh, by the way, I totally agree with you that no one can teach these ideas. They have to be experienced on a personal level of looking at our entire life and attempting correct our wrongs, and forgiving our resentments toward others.

Falling there is so well said, it is only our destruction of ego do we fall into Grace. A mystic doesn't live in God's pain, they live in His Love. Sometimes feeling alienated from the estranged world, but with a different view of a Loving Life connected to all. Thank You Father Rohr for this insight and confirmation of God's Wisdom.

Fr Rohr gave my Roger Bacon HS senior retreat at his New Jerusalem Community in Cincinnati, Ohio in the Spring of 1974. At the time, I was not aware who he was or that he was going to be anyone significant and I can't say the retreat really did any thing for me other than satisfy the criteria that I did my senior retreat. There was another option at a now non-existant venue known as Marydale in Northern Kentucky but the New Jerusalem retreat was more appealing. (word on the street is that the Catholic Church had to sell Marydale in order to pay off the scandalous sexual abuse civil suits) Now, I am able to better appreciate his philosophies and, therefore, his genius. The current rendition of the Catholic Church is an absolute mess yet, Fr. Rohr is one of the very few bright spots. I listen to many of his talks on KZbin but this is my favorite. I no longer attend Mass and he does give creedance to this here when he speaks of inner experience. I had discovered inner experience on my own so it blew my mind to hear him support my independent spiritual emancipation. "Religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell; spiritually is for those who have been there" , James Hollis PhD, Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life" Gotham Books.

I don't want a "big life". Look. I had the big religious experience in my 29th year. "we are all one." High cognitive impact, as different pieces of knowledge in me, which had been hitherto separated, were integrated. Lasted about three and a half days. Definitely felt as though I had been taken in hand by god, and at the end of it, there was an explosion of pleasure behind my eyes that I had never known before, and have never felt, since. It changed my life. But now, age 46, after years of study and observation, I realize that this is a biological, emotional, psychological, and cognitive experience. Not a supernatural one. I am a Christian atheist, now. The clergy does not have the answers. They are not gatekeepers. Perhaps most of them don't even have a personal experience like my own to lean upon. They have no authority. The fact is, water seeks its level. You can have this experience if you seek it sincerely and with effort. But these words won't get you there. I think this fellow knows that undeveloped people instinctively, reflexively seek to make themselves "bigger", and so, he tries to attach their reflex to grow bigger to this experience. People seek to play a role in a larger narrative. But in the end, narrative, and its influence, is a distraction. To escape from narrative, and roles in other peoples' stories and to live your own truth by becoming your own authority is the truth that will set you free.

@@johntate5722 Living. Living is a spiritual practice. It doesn't take any words, much less fancy ones. It doesn't take any effort. There is nothing to be done. Everything is unfolding like a flower, according to its plan. There are not two, separate realities. There is only one. You are not divided into two parts, physical and "spiritual". There are categories, but that's a function of cognition, not spirituality. Language, also, is not holy or magical. It's a trap. We slip it on and suddenly we can live in the narrative past or narrative future, but it's a trick of the light. Language creates the sense of time, and cognition continually taxonomizes and categorizes things because that's evolution's legacy on us. We evolved to breed animals and plants, so we prune, perfect, etc, all the time, even if (especially if) it isn't necessary or helpful. We lead with our biological programming and emotions, and then language and the intellect come along and backfill the mind with narratives that justify or rationalize the pre-existing, irrational dispositions we have.

@@johntate5722 I'm just agreeing with Nietzsche, here. There is no such thing as Nihilism in the wild. No one actually believes in nothing. It's a ridiculous fear. However, just because a person finds a solution or answer that, to them, is clearly better than the others, it doesn't mean their solution is the right fit for others. Super simple, intellectually. Super hard for those who clutch at power. Or maybe that's not right. Maybe they clutch at order and feel insecurity in the face of having to be the final authority. It looks like people are actually the only ones who can authorize themselves to think more and more for themselves on their own authority. Nature seems to have us lock ourselves down by default. Life seems to be in part about finding where we are bound and loosing the bonds. Language doesn't help.

I think that people need to find their earthly happinesses before going onto Rohr's bigger picture. There is a tendency in Christianity to downplay things like learning how to do well at work, how to attract a mate, how to do well in the world. These things are the nitty gritty of life and people who bypass all this and die to these mundane things miss out on a lot of what it is to be human. When you have built up an integrated earthly sense of self, then maybe look at the bigger picture of our place in the wider world.

Especially if you use critical thinking as directed by the word of God to perfect yourself as commanded. What he trying to do is get christians to not have ANY MORAL DIRECTION. I feel he is under demonic forces. He is the 'seducing spirits' we were warned about. The danger of what he is propagating is unimaginable. He has already DESTROYED my niece. Her head is so messed up, she doesn't know the truth of God anymore. I've only heard of his 'retreats'....running naked men jumping over fire burning their genitalia...he called it a 'rite of passage'....perverted/filth/twisted/demented. I don't know about this as I read it somewhere else. What I DO KNOW is this is not good. Satan tries to block the truth of God....surely you will not die. Keep you from the TRUTH OF GOD....homosexuality is OK with God??? This alone is the greatest perversion of God's word....God created them male and female for a REASON....Christians should love and pray for homosexuals as many have been abused and need healing and understanding and love and compassion......not acceptance...WITH LOVE

Letting go is a dimension of salvation, but it is not the whole thing - salvation is real struggle and real hard work to eradicate our vices and implant virtues (a struggle that lasts all our lives - it is a fire fight to the end) - we cannot do that by ourselves but we need the grace of Christ assisting us - and that grace is found in persistent prayer, self denial, and Sacrament - to purely drift and do nothing but let go is to drift down stream to eternal perdition - that priest is a false prophet.
