It's kind of strange that the illustrating part is written in traditional chinese as seldom people use it now except for HK and Taiwan. On top of that, most people in mainland china cannot recognize traditional chinese characters.

I came across this usage of 就 in some dialogue, and wasn't sure of its exact meaning in this context. Perhaps you can help! She has lost her older brother and is looking for him. Q: 他 住 在 这儿 吗? A: 是 的, 我 想 我 哥哥 就 住 在这栋 楼 里 I'm guessing 就 in this context means something along the lines of "definitely". My older brother definitely lives in this building. Is that right?

Thanks so much for this explainer, I do have a question - I started a "translation project" to help me with understanding whole sentences versus individual words and I realized that in talk shows (so more casual, non-scripted conversations), I hear "就是" as something that would probably be a filler word? For example： “我有一个汉爵就是因为我以前[...]". What would really be the colloquial meaning of this type of "就是" ? Thanks for your help!

usually, ppl make these sentences as short as possible, so they sounds heavily emphasized. 我叫你别喝，你就别喝！（stop drinking right now!）

Curious, my dictionary also offers the meaning "only" for the word jiu. In that case, could I say, "wǒ jiù huì shuō yì diǎnr Zhōng wén"?

In this case you have to add 'zhi' (只, only) right after 'jiu'. It's more like a modifier to modify 'only', and when it's used ususally you want to stress that you've said something before and you're a bit annoyed to have to say it again. Like '(Told you,) I only speak little Chinese!'

Why using the traditional Chinese and not the simplified? Which is most used? I ask because there is quite a big difference between simplified "什么" and the one you used.

I think he is in Taiwan. Taiwan uses the traditional characters instead of the simplified characters. My 老师 told me to learn both, because it just depends on the situation/location for usage.

Евгений Григорьев 睡觉 is usually used for sleep, which is shuijiao. He did write 睡著 though (shuizhe or in this case shuizhao). Not sure why, could be a more prominent local thing to say this? Both refer to sleep, as far as I'm aware "睡著" is more, "sleeping" or "fall asleep" whereas "睡觉” is ”to sleep".

correction：要是你暗恋她，你就要告诉她。 就要means someone or something should do or will do something under a certain condition. for example, 有乌云就要下雨。 if there are dark clouds, it will rain. 到了十点你就要睡觉。 you should go to sleep when it's ten o'clock. 就是mean you are referring to a particular thing. for example, 这就是我那天说的那个人。 this is the very person i told you the other day.
