Im on an island with my opinion but I legitimately think the Chargers have a chance to win 9 games this year. Now yes I know they have less players than before but ... Defense may not get its best results until end of October. 36:56 I think Brett just figured out an age old question that has been plaguing Bills and Jets fans for the past Decade. Which is ... Why didn't Rex Ryan work out as as Head Coach or long time DC? And the answer was simple all along. His schemes were WAY too complicated. When Brett Broke down the Ravens fire zone scheme and talked about Mike McDonald he mentioned how all Mike did was read Rex Ryan old playbook and simplify Ryan's schemes because they had like 6 different names for one blitz based on alignment. I think this is why Rex Ryan's schemes only worked under veterans who were already familiar with his scheme but not with newcomers and rookies.
@lucrative64773 ай бұрын
You completely missed the point. Making a scheme more simple is a good thing. Having a complicated scheme to understand is a bad thing. Rex Ryan never lasted because he’s long been exposed for being awful. He had an all time great group of talent on his defenses, that got beat by rebuilding patriots teams with actual good schemes.
@t4d0W3 ай бұрын
I mean being a HC also needs more skillsets than just being a DC. If communicating a complicated scheme is difficult enough and needing specific players to make it work, imagine keeping the defensive play caller role *WHILE* having to run the weekly gameplan to explain to the staff and players. And I doubt his ability to delegate the right staff to communicate well was great either. Besides there are plenty of great DC minds (see Dennis Allen) who aren't exactly stand outs as HC roles.

The main counter-argument is that the range is given not to point to an average but to give a big picture idea of where a team might go. @@danielacker2351You say these things about the Chargers but you haven't looked at their schedule 🤣🤣 The reason there's so much optimism that they can be a playoff team is because they're playing on a fourth place schedule, No Thursday night games, No big major travel issues lol. One score losses usually flip every single year, So with Harbaugh it's easy to predict a couple of those one score losses from last year turn into wins. It has nothing to do with hyping up the team, the roster, the players or anything like that. It's looking at the coaching, The quarterback and the schedule, that's all🤣🤦🤡

Think you guys are slightly underestimating the passing game. Instead of 23 passes per game, I think it’s going to check in at 27 to 30 passes a game. No way Harbaugh will let Roman misuse Herbert that bad.

Bolts since 76. My concern is that teams load up the box and our current level of receivers don't create separation. 3rd and long, sucks. The other concern, is college coaching on defense. Hope Minter can adjust during the game. Pro offense is way different than college. I'm hopeful as usual.

I feel like every year there is a team that wrongfully gets hyped up by the media, and ends up being a dumpster. 2 years ago it was Denver. I feel like every person I talked to knew they would suck, and they did. The media hyped them so much tho. Last year it was the bears. Half the media was calling fields a mvp candidate before the season. This year it is the chargers. They simply do not deserve this hype. They are a bottom 10 team. Plain and simple. Just a lack of talent. At their ceiling they are the 2022 giants, and I wouldn’t have bet on them making it that far either.
@timcal21363 ай бұрын
2 things, 1: nobody is saying they are going to be a top team or even a playoff contender this year, even Brett and EJ. They explicitly stated that they are excited about this team’s future, not necessarily the present. 2. Bottom 10 talent by what metrics? Sure, they’re not top 10 or anything, but they have a young top 5-10 QB, a young and talented o-line (just needs to stay healthy), the best SS in the league, and the best OLB tandem in the league. There are clear holes at RB, WR, TE, and maybe CB, but all the thing i listed indicate middle-of-the-pack, not 22nd or below

I don't think Sanjay Lal likes Josh Palmer very much because Josh is challenging Sanjay's coaching techniques and considering Sanjay's success (only with Seahawks) I don't think Palmer is wrong. I say that because Sanjay came out and said Palmer had knee issues which is uncharacteristic of a coach to say. Sanjay also mentioned Palmer challenged him on some things. Then it was weird for Harbaugh to say that, he listens to the experts and those that are more knowledgeable than him in their respective fields, and the only thing that made sense as to why he was would say that is that he was referring to the Palmer/Sanjay situation. Hopefully they bring both worlds together and get the best version.

Re. Trestman: as someone named Peter, I obviously don't like the "Peter Principle" (or least the name of it), but Trestman is an offensive genius who hasn't been able to hack it as a HC. Having someone like advise Gregg Roman is ideal. Very underrated hire.

I been a chargers fan since the early air coryell days. And there's definitely a big change in the organization. The chargers have what they never had and that is a toughness attitude. The team has gone from finesse to physicality. And its going to be awesome seeing that transition on the field. 💪💪💪💪⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

I flew 2500 miles to simply WATCH the 1993 Charger/SF Superbowl. EVERY year we get the same same same talk. Sooo much potential. Maybe they are right, I hope so, cause I need a Super Bowl before I die....Sadly see the facility/food/weight room/etc ranked near last and F sort of says not much has changed.

The offensive line is going to be better at pass blocking than run blocking so the offense better have more yards through the air than on the ground if they want to win the most games.
@jabarwright43333 ай бұрын
I just looked at the depth chart of the Chargers and they pretty much just became a different variation of the Ravens. The biggest difference is that Justin Herbert is a better passer than Lamar Jackson. The run game is identical to what Greg Roman was working with and I could honestly see Hayden Hurst getting at least 6 or 7 touchdowns this season.

I have more confidence in the O lines pass blocking ability than their run blocking ability.
@ryansuter4424Ай бұрын
Picking Ladd McConkey with the 34th pick rather than another OL man either shows you that Chargers want a productive passing game or that they are willing to please the fan base at the expense of making their offensive line even better.
@ryansuter44243 ай бұрын
This teams success is going to hinge more on the upswing of their defense than the upswing of their offense. That said the offense can contribute to the defensive upswing by being able to run the ball effectively.

I wonder what this team looks like defensively. I have a very clear view of what the offense will be based off the personnel and Harbaugh’s previous stops. I think there are very little question marks in the back seven.

Chargers draft: Good draft. Could have been better if they took a starting caliber Interior OL or DL as well as a DB with their 2nd pick. Ladd as a player was a great pick (if healthy) but there were other positions of need that needed to be filled in the 2nd round over Wr.

I’m going to miss Gerald Everett but his 6 to 7 million a year contract is expensive for the team especially when they got Hayden Hurst for 1.1 million this year.

Keenan was tough to stomach. It later came out that they did approach him to take a pay cut to stay with the team given the moves the team needed to make and he said he wouldn't take that pay cut. He earned every dollar he was entitled to so I can't blame the guy but I think it just is what it is.
@ryansuter4424Ай бұрын
They were smart to get rid of the WR’s over the DE’s. Productive WR are easier to replace than DE’s.
@ryansuter4424Ай бұрын
Fantasy wise realize that the Chargers kept 7 WR on their initial roster. They plan on passing and spreading it out. But if the running game is not that effective and Herbert is asked to pass a good amount he will probably end up throwing the bulk of his passes to 1 tight end and 2 other receivers that he trusts the most even if other receivers are open as well.

keenan leaving was incredibly difficult my god. it was truly like a death in the family mike will and ekeler leaving were more expected, and i personally expected bosa to get the boot (him slamming his helmet just for staley to hand it back to him to slam it again stands out in my mind) also while it's nice that alt is a generational talent and all that, the weakness i was most concerned about was interior OL and they picked up a strong-side tackle... pipkins doesn't have the pedigree of alt but he was still entirely serviceable. i still would've preferred they went WR (nabers) round 1 and C round 2 (JPJ) but I'm still buying in with ladd

Out of all the Chargers position groups WR is the most stacked! The reason is that college and NFL WR talent is plentiful which again is why I did not like picking up a WR in the second round and using the 1st pick last year on a WR.

@ryansuter44243 ай бұрын
If Chargers were really serious about running the ball a lot they should have used the second pick on a OL. This offense should be well balanced! If you believe in the transparency then the theme is that they want the run game to help the passing and vice versa! Why pick up Ladd if you don’t plan on throwing enough to at least have a balanced offensive attack.
