I felt the same way when they said that they wanted to create a feminist version. The original is a feminist show - it just doesn't have the characters exclaiming feminist ideals every other scene. It's done with subtlety whilst also looking at other issues. I got through two episodes before realising they couldn't recapture the essence of the original show because they had no idea what the original show was about.

I agree. I watched the entire first season and every single time there was a feminist scene, I felt like I was a child scolded. And it was like every five minutes too. Because of that, I barely paid attention to half of each episode and even to this day I can't tell you what any one demon or warlock was in the entire first season. Not like I can with the original Charmed.

Everyone wanted the Chris, and Wyatt spin off. In the 8 season of charmed they added Billy,and Kristy just so they can do a spin off around them. Which was stupid when they could have just made a spin off around Chris and Wyatt.

I'm rewatching OG Charmed and the thing that strikes me is that Shannon, Alyssa and Holly feel like sisters, they spark off each other, they argue. As someone with 3 sisters, I can see the bonds and the occasional antagonism because sisters argue. I will admit I haven't seen much of the new Charmed but the bits I have seen show the sisters as stiff with zero chemistry. Also the supporting cast overshadows them at every step.

Also, Shannon and Holly were very close friends in their personal life and you can actually see their bond on the screen (later with Rose, which Holly is still close to). The fact, that the Grams and the mother were put in during all 8 seasons made it wholesome as well. It felt like a real family. The new show is just a hot mess.

I gave this Charmed "reboot" the two episode test which I do with hour long shows. I have to say, it completely failed. The only sort of likable-ish character was the eldest, Macy and even that is pushing it. There is no relationship (that seems natural anyway) between the 3 M sisters: it has a very anti-men message which isn't healthy, bad CGI and crappy demons (in my opinion), and it just bothered me how "woke" and "hip" it tried to be. It was so painful to get through. I'm not against the idea of a remake of Charmed completely, if done right. Like plenty have mentioned before me, a prequel to the OG Charmed with the grandmother would have been awesome. Or a Charmed next gen show that continued with their kids. Instead we got this rushed crap, not really being good, and it's just an overall disappointment. The first episode by itself was rushed, I liked Phoebe discovering the book on her own. Instead these new "woke" witches get their witchly duties just handed to them. There is no satisfaction in that. This "reboot" is a shameless fake and has no place existing. It doesn't have interesting characters, a good story to tell, and the acting is very stiff. I'm not impressed at all. Again, this is all just my opinion.

I agree under the misandry part. There was so much man hating in the first two episodes, it anoyed me. The first season of the original Charmed the topic of men abusing women for power was very present in the form of (male) Warlocks, who had no powers of their own, taking the powers of (female) Witches. It was a great matter for real world problems and still was fantastic enough to offer entertainment and escapism. But it still didn't feel like *men vs women* for most of the time the best results happened, when men and women worked together like the Charmed ones and Andy/Darryl/Leo/Cole, or Chris and his aunts, or Kyle and Paige, and so on...

Modern feminism doesn't understand yeaterdays feminism. In the original Charmed show, they had strong female characters with individual problems who overcame weaknesses and mastered their lives in the end. There was also a tone of happiness and enjoying life even though life was hard for the sisters. The new show tried to tell the audiance how feminist it was with fist to the face. There were constant discussions about feminism or feminist topics so that even the stupidest audiance could understand that this is a feminist show. At the same time the tone was top dark. There was drama after drama and tragic following tragic. Who would want to identify with the sisters, when their lives are so miserable?

I also watched some other videos on the OG charmed versus the reboot and they talked about how the middle child on the reboot is an activist and feminist, but they obviously didn't watch the original because so was Phoebe in a way, remember the Lady Godiva episode in magic school where she rode nude on the horse. Agree 1000% What sealed the deal for me was THEY REBOOTED THE ACTUAL POWER OF 3! The power of 3 in this is just ONE MOVE! It is ONE POWER!!! It's not like an ingredient in a spell that takes all 3 of them.. Instead it's ONE CGI effect! It is a terrible lightning blue orb that connects to all three sisters and they say the power of 3 in latin and shoot it at the enemy! OMG who wrote this! The power of 3 was sometimes represented as XYZ spell needs all 3 sisters to work and thus it was a power of 3 spell, OR it was a giant spell where they said the power of 3 will set us free.. THIS IS ONE SPELL AND ONE POWER --- Always blue electricity orbs... So they took the MAIN element and made it a BORING CGI EFFECT! I'm on season 3 watching the train wreck just because, They really tried to revamp it season 2 and No they still fail. The SOCIAL JUSTICE stuff is like a PARODY Of real life, The way they talk about men and just throw it out there doesn't feel like an empowering thing.. it's sounds like a bad joke that a terrible person would say to annoy people out of no where lol. You NEED to review the other seasons, They buried bad press and now the new gen that has never seen charmed rushes to there defense, I'm having trouble finding the TRUE reviews, They used to be everywhere but the smart ones stopped watching so no more reviews.. I love how the OG Charmed allowed its characters to have flaws without needing to fix it. I do keep up with the new one, but it’s still got that MCU Charmed Ones vibes without having the characters talk like people.

The Charmed reboot does feel fast and has the benefit of having a planned out universe, but so far doesn't feel like anything more than pandering. I like the idea of focusing on a different witch family tree since if would make sense for there to be are more witches but I hate the fact that it feels like a just trying to replace the original series. Would have been fun to see this tie to the original series.

I barely made it through the first episode of the reboot. This was the episode: "HEY WHAMENS ESPECIALLY LATINX WHAMENS GOOD MEN BAD THESE WHAMENS POWERFUL K MEN BAD WE VERY PROGRESSIVE K IF U DONT LIKE OUR SHOW U HATE WOMEN AND ARE MUCH RAYCISMS also THIS CHARACTER IS GAY AND MEN VERY BAD ALSO ORANGE MAN REALLY BAD ME TOO" I laughed a lot through the episode. It was so bad and forced. Looking back on that episode in a post me too era, in a post heard vs Depp era, where we know women lie about this stuff (I know. I did it. Ruined a man's life so I didn't have to take responsibilities) and people question things first and demand proof, looking back, then cringe level in the first episode is too much to bear. I can't handle it. It should be banished into the forgotten realms of history and never spoken of again. And the funny thing is, Hollywood is still trying to push this crap, but nobody is tolerating it. They call it out. See the movie "Brown Snow and the six average height people and one dwarf" movie.

Like how it was a place that the demons wanted to turn to the evil place; also how it was built on top of the Nexus in the story. This could have been amazing with the Latinx element, but this was so sparse and thinly spread you could see the “default magic” underneath; there was no explanation for it either, they just hoped no one would notice. You can’t just say a few things in Spanish and pop a couple of elements in to make them Brujas without providing context or anything. They wrote the entire show was written like it was going to be cancelled immediately after. I honestly think the writers didn’t expect to come back for a season 2. They end season one with Macy going into a literal god mode and then following it up with a “gee whiz, guess one person really can’t have all that power.” Everything was so rushed and shoehorned in it feels like season 2 is going to be filler. They also seemed to want to hard with the serious/gritty angle but between the actors and the writing it fell flat and felt disingenuous. The writing staff wanted to be Sabrina (which is also bad for reasons I’m not getting into), Supernatural (campy horror/urban fantasy), or The Magicians (whimsical/urban fantasy). It spent too much time trying to manufacture popular elements from other shows it crashed and burned. I think this is why some people had hoped for something campier like Supernatural (or the original Charmed).

I'm so glad someone else feels as I do about the reboot. I really wish they would have slowed everything down. Agreed the only character that has any kind of thought or acting skills is the new white lighter. I'm also going to give the second season a go, but don't have high Hope's for it. I loved the story concepts or the plot concepts but they put in to much to fast. And this reboot will never compete with the original, I've seen the original so many times, all time favorite for me. I watched the second season the first episode of the second season they destroyed the Book of shadows so to me I don’t think it’s charmed anymore without the book of shadows and they relocate to Seattle where they discover a safe space command center for witches they should have just gotten Constance M Burge to create another show and I also think they should have gone through every charmed episode I can name one episode where they could have taken the charmed storyline and created a new tv series the episode I think they could have created another series was called the eyes have it with the Gypsies they should have done that

I swear I don’t even see or know this “reboot” very much on Mariah Carey energy 😂. I did not watch it bcuz I knew it wasn’t gonna be true to the OG fanbase. Had they went in the essentially and canonically responsible route and picked up a continuation, maybe starting with Phoebe having her fourth child, and Phoebe’s 3 GIRLS learning of their Charmed status within the magical realm (of course as a slow burn as the series progressed), then I would’ve been sopping up the entire series like grilled cheese wading in tomato soup. Like how wonderful would it have been to see the next generation of Halliwells grow and become the next protectors of the realms? And to see Prue just about reincarnated through Piper’s granddaughter? I would’ve been in tears.

I haven't got round to watching the reboot yet. When I first heard there was going to be a new series I was excited for it to be a continuation of the original. I wanted to see Phoebe, Paige and Piper as mum's to teenage/adult kids, who maybe have kids of their own too. or even the three sisters taking the roll of Grams and guiding the new generations! But then I heard they weren't involved in the series at all so didn't pay much attention to the reboot. I will watch it soon though before I comment and rate it.

Also the original was in the 90s- 00s so it’s obviously gonna be way different since the effects are more advanced and stuff so it may seem like they’re powers are being rushed. Listen, 1st season was the typical I'm in love with tall, dark, and handsome but his father is the villain formula. And near the end nevermind the book of shadows we got these magical artifacts from xiaolin showdown and some random fighting moves we learned from who knows where. Listen.. listen.. while I love how new and different it is.. these things that I mentioned were somethings that I wished didnt happen or they would have changed.. to be more original for the former and to make more sense or make it make sense for the latter.. Also idk why but imo the only likeable person was Macy. Maggie cries over literally everything it gets annoying at some point and mel.. thought she was going through some great character development to shed off that stubborn, thinks she knows better attitude of hers but nope. I was rooting for ya mel but in season 2 when you screwed up Ray's exchange with the black market dudes I lost all hope for ya....

They were walking on egg shells fearing cancellation which is why it accelerated.The special and visual effect are far better with using computers programs to do this .Mel is way more confident than Piper and Maggie never nags .Charmed was only charmed with Prue in it after that it wasn't .

It’s rushed the relationships feel forced no real building of anything... it happens way to fast like first episode we are sisters and all happy .... the acting is not great it’s not shadow hunters bad but not far off.

Whatever dude just appreciate that someone cares enough to bring charmed back. The magic graphics in the original charmed was crap but the acting was fantastic and the family values and history with the book is all that matters. I have a lot of issues with the reboot but I watched all of it because I literally don’t care I just love charmed.

I have watched all of season 1 twice and season 2 and just because it has diversity is not a free pass for being poorly written, unoriginal and weak over all
