Stephanie, FYI, there is a device called a Flotron. We used i t in our swimming pool to prevent algae growth. It floats on the water, powered by a solar panel attached to a copper or brass coil suspended under water. It ionizes the water, a form of water purification . We did not have to use chlorine. It was about 12" in diameter. You could set in the top tier possibly . Love your vlogs

This one made me laugh and cry. The bit about the size of your box made me cackle out loud. Thank you for that!! I know you turning your backside to the fire is an odd reason to cry, but it made me think of a friend from childhood we lost recently. One cold night when I was about ten, my sister and I were at our friend's house having our own little preteen goddess workshop with she and her Mum. Her Mum said one sure fire way you knew a real down to earth woman was if she was smart enough to back her bum up to a warm fire, versus facing the fire and delicately holding up her hands to the flames. I've never hesitated to back my bum up to a fire since. Thank you for bringing up the warm memories.

@SMG Yes, they are. The formal garden has the circle inside and the square on the outside. Although both of them will have the opening to walk through, that kind of breaks open the circle and the square.

I think the square would be better. More formal looking. Also, thinking that two concrete benches on either side of the fountain might look nice instead of sitting on the narrow fountain edge.

Concrete benches would be better than perching awkwardly on a super slim edge. 💪As someone who must periodically clean 🍃leaves & debris🍂out of my🏊‍♀️pool , not convinced the lavendar is a wise choice. It would be very pretty, but also has great potential to add to cleaning labor.

Beloved Stephanie, I don’t say very much ever, however I would like you to know that I get it about the chandeliers and fabric and everything you are doing at Chateau La La land - it is my happy place. I first met you through Mike who is also an absolute darling. Thank you for all your creative efforts and ability to to speak for an entire 20 minutes without saying um or like, I really appreciate it. I consume all your content and cannot get enough... no pressure though, just keep doing you, you are enough, I just want you to know your efforts are not wasted on those that prefer to remain silent (most of the time) on social media and the like. I especially like the chateau on Sundays when you talk about your passions and history. Another aspect that I admire very much is your mother Isabelle and her perspective, keeping it generational is key.

Have you considered stone benches on each short side around the fountain to punctuate the lavender hedge - I think it would be more attractive and more comfortable seating than just the edge of the fountain. I would also suggest stone curbing along the box hedge, and perhaps even the lavender, to prevent gravel from migrating into the bed(s), as well as to define the bed and hold mulch in place. Will also enhance view from above. Obviously more money. Dan's design is superbly well-proportioned! Do not cut the corners - the square is metaphysically significant with the octagon of the fountain.

Find a wood or metal bowl - there must be something suitable kicking around there - and drill a hole in it for the wiring to disguise the electrics in the chandelier. Fix to ceiling then paint it. You could even drill through a ceramic bowl actually.

Chandelier: Please do not use fabric to hide the "rig" near the ceiling. Fire hazard! Selmar could fashion a wooden "cone" with the wide end at the ceiling, tapering down to the brass fitting. It could be painted the same color of cream as the walls/wallpaper and embellished with gold paint. I think that would look lovely!

There's Power Planter Auger - Ultimate Garden Starter Pack, The Maxbit Garden Hole Digging Drill Bits with Extension. Also maybe in the future you can use Drip Irrigation System to your garden since you have a deep well it's actually very easy to install. Chandelier look amazing!!

If theres already live wires in the ceiling for a light fitting ,my question is why use the middle piece to connect chandelier should be able to connect chandelier, wires directly too ceiling wires use two butt connectors and tape off with electrical tape then you can conceal with light fitting cover over. eliminating the soldering the extra middle piece
@ricado372
@ricado372 4 жыл бұрын
Not only that, he didn't connect the earth wire. The whole thing looked awful and the internal soldered connections were never designed to be wiggled around like that. Doing that could easily have left a high resistant joint., which they are now planning to wrap some decoration around.

The chandelier is hanging by two soldered wires seems unsafe. My chandeliers have hooks screwed into ceiling beams, so they hang there. Not by their wiring. I would recommend the extra hook. The chandelier can't fall while electrical work is being attached. I made them for my daughter's wedding. The electrician wired them so they were easily hoisted high in the air above the guests. The chains had extensions with easy ways to secure them to the beams, and there was no worry about the wiring. He wired them as appliances. A cord at the mezzanine level could be plugged in at the chandeliers, zip tied to beams over venue. The Japanese zig zag stagger hedge in the Japanese garden here. There is a French garden channel on KZbin.
@kaydonahue
@kaydonahue 4 жыл бұрын
Studied how the chandeliers were wired. The chandeliers started as two three foot mirrors with 480 lead crystals hanging from each with three candle flame light bulbs hanging between the mirrors and crystals. I hung the crystals like earrings around the outside of the circle, and got all the parts from an architectural antiques dealership. No electrician would wire it for me. The man who sold me the parts, looked like my uncle, an architect/artist genius. He came to my house, and both of my kids came home, and agreed he was a duplicate of my uncle. He linked three chains around the outside equal distance, to a central very long chain to extend 20 ft from chandelier. Then he wired everything instantly, like my uncle could work, the genius was in his hands. He wired the three bulbs like a lamp. I had planned to remove all 960 of the crystals for the 700 mile trip to the venue like earrings. He said not necessary. He made tubes of towels between the crystals and mirrors, putting them facing up in the backseat of a giant 8 year old Tundra I bought for the trip. My daughter wanted no alcohol at her wedding, having lost her most beloved childhood friend who was driving 80mph in a 20mph zone, drunk out of his mind. I bought a truckload of Topo Chico, Mexican sparkling water. My son showed up at 10:30pm. I drove across Texas all night while my son slept. The Tundra was so amazing. At the venue, they hoisted the chandeliers up with a telescoping lift, and plugged them in within ten minutes. They were stunning, and lit up perfectly. Found out the man who wired the chandeliers was also a architect/artist, who lived on the same street as my uncle before he died. In awe of the miracles witnessed to make my daughter's request for two huge chandeliers for her wedding, I am now in awe of the miracles of six grandchildrens, since my children waited til mid to late 30s to marry. Stephanie et al, you marvelous love of life, and laughter, food, family, and friends, is inspiring. Best of Best to All!

I just sold my moms estate in South Carolina. The problem over the years was that a lot of people touched the wiring. To close the sale I had to go through the whole house, from top to bottom, fixing everything people have touched. I was shocked to see a dangerous situation. So I would agree, ask an electrician, hopefully a volunteer, to go through the switches, fuses, plug ins, junction boxes, to make sure there will be no future sparks. But the lighting fixtures makes the space. I am a big coward when it comes to electricity, I know nothing. Keep up the good work.

@@TheBusinessAdvisorPodcast Poor or old electrical wiring which has been McGyvered over the years can be insidious. My son has told me of many stories where upon entering walls to find a singular problem, he has found that there had been fire and burnt wire still connected within the walls. Even in homes built around the 60's and 70's, he found unsafe alterations to operate newer, multiple appliances which were potentially unsafe. Caution is necessary and only a qualified, scrupulous electrician can guarantee safety and quality. My aunt just sold an absolutely gorgeous century old home. Prior to selling, ALL the electrical had to be replaced at great cost to her. Also, the cosmetic destruction and restoring costs were unbelievable but absolutely necessary. I agree with the comments of others re the chandelier wiring. I really think Stephanie needs to get a qualified electrician to install it safely

So excited to see the courtyard completed! Helpful hint about the weeds, boiling water will kill the weeds in the gravel without chemicals or pulling!

Adding salt to the boiling water makes it an even more powerful weed killer.

Stephanie you should have Selmar build a wooden box to hide the wires or turn a wooden decorative base to hide them. Much better than fabric that will collect dust.

Good info on no dig. Box grows notoriously slow, even with water and fert. Lonicera or privet will grow faster if you want the space filling with the same effect. Esp. lonicera, very diverse spp with different leaf sizes and colours available. Have to keep up on pruning with lonicera though. If you guys have a big box tree anywhere you can air layer branches off it for free large bushes in 6 months. They back bud so even long branches will fill in in time. Worth considering air layering existing plants in your grounds for future requirements. Even huge 20ft trees made from free branches if you need them :) For optimum growth and longevity, you guys have plants there with different water and fert requirements. Box lavender need dry, aliums need a bit more water etc... Look at selectively amending the soil for each. The same rainfall will keep different soils at different humidity and gas composition. This can be used to give different plants their individual optimum conditions in the same place. Similarly, for acidification of roses, you can selectively apply powdered sulphur under bark mulch depending what you have there. Lavender and roses sound good but most of the time they require different pHs to thrive. Plants will normally give you what you need quickly with no time wasted digging and replacing the dead if you give them what they need from the outset lolz 😆

Just love you ALL and its always fun watching this workshop but have to say the one last year was a bit more fun 😆............ Great to see all the work done here as well. Its an inspiration to watch the energy of everyone coming together and colliding. The collaboration is honestly hands down the best in the world. I think we all must need a cute Musketeer handyman in our lives like the one you have!!! ☺

To hide the electric part of the chandelier, you could use a piece of PVC pipe painted or anything else to match the gold of the chandelier. It looks stunning btw.
