I seem to remember that the very first poles were max 7m, weighed about 3 ton and bent like a boomerang.
@TheSudsy3 жыл бұрын
And they were called Roach Poles, not just poles. made out of fibre glass and mainly telescopic. Like Andy remembers, you had an eye on the end or a "crook " with a bit of elastic in. If they were 7 meters, only 6 was usuable as you needed the last section as a counterbalance.

I got a Maver 9.5m pole of eBay for £80 absolutely bargain pole, I never go far from the margins because I’m disabled got a nice strong elastic on it, happy days on the commercial lakes. 😍👍🏻

Enjoyed the challenge. In answer to your question are they like the old poles. I purchased a Garbolino Carbon pole about 1978/1979. I think they started producing them in 1977. It came as a 10 metre pole but I had a extra 1/2 bottom section which took the pole up to nearly 11 metres. It cost just under £400 which was a lot of money back then and was heavy. Probably nearly as heavy as a 16 metre pole today. It was not floppy like the poles you fished with and only came with 2 fine tips. No internal elastic back then. I think at the time it was difficult to buy a glass fibre pole much longer than 7 metres and they were heavy and floppy. I believe Garbolino were one of the very first companies to make carbon fibre poles. I bloke I use to fish with had a aluminium pole with a glass tip (it was not a tank ariel) but made as a roach pole. It was really stiff but only 6 or 7 metres long. It was the only one I had ever seen and to this day have never seen another. I think he bought it in France.

Another great video Gents, I love long-lining to hand. My local canal is 10' deep from a yard out so is perfect with 5 or 6mtr whip with a flick tip. My favourite is a 6 mtr LEDA Merit which is so light I can fish it one-handed and it's super stiff. I bought the last two they had in stock four years ago for £16.95 each : Brilliant value. I e-mailed LEDA about them but they're discontinued which is a shame.

I had a m8 that run a fishing shop and he come back from sale of show and tell from the different companies and he would not shut up about the telescopic pole`s telling me i must put in a order for one as they will be the way of fishing, so i put in a order for a 12 meter one, when it arrived i took it to our local pond at the weekend and pulled fish in all day from 10am till 6pm i had so many of the other`s fishing coming upto me asking me about it as they noticed how much i was catching, i come back a month later to same pond and all the people i spoke to about it all had there telescopic pools and catching all day, when they brought out these pole`s it changed the game of fishing so much.

I’m sure these are used in Japan on featureless lakes, they also have large pole rest which holds the pole high up in the air which allows the fish to hook itself. Great video and fun as always from these two top guys 👍
@dprid3 жыл бұрын
My first 12.5m pole (Shakespeare Master GLX Titanium) cost me over £500 back in the mid-eighties and was twice the diameter of what they're using. And it was so heavy I had to hold it old-school like they joke as I simply didn't have the bodyweight or the strength to hold it otherwise! It was a bit more rigid mind.
