@@WndSks yes 98 and ME improved by supporting WDM drivers, but with drivers we're talking about the kernel space here not user space compat layers. The 9x kernel is very different from NT kernel. E.g. NT doesn't have MS-DOS kernel resident in memory at all, while 9x does and actually requires and often falls back on it. There's more to it than I can seriously get into on a YT comment.

The noise part is also true if you use and android phone and just download an audio scope and make headphone probes (the poor-man's / teenager's first scope) if you use it while charging you will see a lot more noise... however it's unwise to use such a set up to probe mains as the resistor you use is all the protection your phone gets, and headphone wire isn't rated for mains so there's some safety concerns not just for the safty of the device but also its user. But paying attention to the noise factor on those setups is how I immediately recognized the same issue when I graduated to USB scopes.

Most scopes out there are only 8bit, even fancy ones that cost over $10 000 The problem with this scope is the lack of a proper analog front end to scale and shift the signal to utilise as much range on the ADC as possible. Thats why other scopes show a much better signal.
@paulkolodner24455 жыл бұрын

Saying you could use a scope at up to half the sampling frequency really isn't true, if that's what you mean. You really need more than 2 samples per cycle you actually see a sin wave in the time domain.
@cgibbard5 жыл бұрын
If you have a signal having no frequencies at or above B hertz, then it can be perfectly reconstructed from 2B samples per second. (This is called the Nyquist-Shannon theorem.) Whether the software will actually interpolate the signal appropriately or you just get a mess of dots on your screen is another thing though.
@alansimons1415 жыл бұрын
Go look at the Tektronix or Keysight website. All their scopes are rated for lower fmax than half their sampling frequency. Yes, signals can be "reconstructed" according to nyquist, but that's different than looking at samples on a scope in the time domain.
@Heizenberg.5 жыл бұрын
If the sampling frequency is Fs then all frequencies up to (not including) Fs/2 can be measured. Input frequencies above Fs/2 will show as an alias to another frequency. Say Fs=100 S/s, 50 Hz will show as 0 Hz, 60 Hz will show as 40 Hz etc... So theoretically speaking, if Fs is 48 MHz, then for frequency measurement only, f_in_max< 24 MHz. So if you have a high frequency noise, this may show up as fake low frequency component, thus decent scopes will filter those sneaky freqs above Fs/2 using "anti-aliasing" filter... Measuring shape is a another story... 🤞
