The Cherokee language is sacred to our people and unfortunately, it's endangered. Learn about a special book, created to recognize our first-language speakers, that is having a greater impact than ever imagined.

Make Cherokee language learning mandatory in ALL schools within the Cherokee Nation. Compensate the teachers at a 20-50% premium compared to standard teacher rates. The language will last forever.

Osiyo duna diniyoli! Halito Chata! I do not live on a reservation. However I have Cherokee and Cherokee Freedman ancestry. Also have family ties to the Choctaw. Chata Siv Hoke! My families were separated by slavery, Revolutionary War and Indian Removal. I've been learning and speaking both Cherokee and Choctaw for a while now. My wife has ancestry to the Oklahoma Cherokee res also. Our children are more Cherokee than we are. So I speak Cherokee to our children. So they know it when they hear it. Stiyo! Donada gohvi!

A language is a work of art. It should never become extinct.

Humanity has such a rich cultural inheritance, when a culture or part of a culture such as language disappears, the all of Humanity suffers. However, I truly believe Unequa will never let the Cherokee disapear, as long as we listen to Unequa, we can keep the Beauty that Unequa has given to the Cherokee.
