Every time I listen to a Deep Purple cut, I play it twice, once to hear the track and a second time to just listen to Maestro Paice to enjoy the ferocity and energy of a consummate artist. Ritchie, Jon, Gillan, Coverdale, Hughsie and Morsie all have their strengths but the explosively expressive engine of rock will always be Ian Paice.

I love this man. I could listen to him talk about music and his approach to it all day. I'm a black metal guitarist but it's so enlightening and inspiring to hear his perspective. Plus I love DP of course. Glad we still have a few of the true old guard rock and roll forefathers around and kicking. One of the all time greats.

Thankyou Ian. Your comments about not planning the "BURN" drum structures was so insightful. As an old ex- drummer of pensionable age I was struck by memories of playing live years ago and needing to try things spontaneously, in line and to compliment the playing of other guys around me. It was something felt rather then thought about, as you say, in the moment. Thankyou once again. Coming from a great master drummer like yourself it validated something I tried to workout in my own life many years ago. carry on your drumtribe input.

I will die with the idea that with "Fireball" you become the FATHER of innumerable possible drummers of Power Metal, Speed Metal, Symphonic Metal, Proggresive Metal, some of Thrash Metal and Heavy Metal, etc., etc. ., etc., 🤗. I propose you for "Living Human Monument" or "Human Art Reserve" .👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Greetings from Chile🇨🇱.MASTER!!!!.

What a mine of information (not to mention musical talent and inspiration) this man is. The idea of having "And the address" to bookend Deep Purple's studio career was a brilliant one (had Whoosh been the band's final album). If a new album is indeed recorded (fingers of both hands and toes of both feet crossed) could perhaps the band consider an instrumental medley with bits covering all the eras of the band?

Ian, thank you so much for being so candid and honest, so many people are full of shit, especially when it comes to their hearing and how to play songs, I've been drumming since 1971 and I wish I had been somewhat kinder to my ears, I think one thing drummers can do is ensure and fight to set the kit slightly behind the amps, and have good monitors. You guys are still the loudest band I ever saw, on the Perfect Strangers tour you did a show in New Haven, Ct at the coliseum, the place had structural issues and the lower level parking area had been closed off for years because it buckled, that's why they were nets way above the people if you recall seeing them, you guys had cement chips coming down and my tinnitus started that night. As to the gent who wanted to know how to play Burn, play it from your gut man, and your heart, it's one of those songs that fills roll through the verse melodically. I CAN'T STAND DRUMMERS ON KZbin THAT COPY PEOPLE EXACTLY, BIG DEAL, show me what YOU can invent, the verse in Burn is indeed the hardest part and you can over think it, just play it straight keeping time and gradually increase the fills, I make a pattern so the first is just snare/tom work, the 2nd is flams, 3rd is around the kit and 4th is like the snare build up Ian did that follows the "wave of her hAAAANNNNDDDdddd". Did you ever notice that when you see a great band live they don't do a song exactly as it is on the album? Improvise

There's always an interesting contrast to be drawn between those musicians who insist on recreating their parts note for note, including those who want to copy them, and those who just like to wing it, as long as it works. I guess Purple has been dominated by the latter approach, and it's part of the great appeal of the band for me. I'm the same way. I can't understand the desire to fret over every detail, as though nothing else will do.
@guillermo35644 жыл бұрын
@delorangeade right on. it's all about playing what feels good and everyone having a good time. Improv makes a live show a special event. People that want to hear everything "just like the record" have no sense of adventure.
