My mom got married as a 14 year old. Her husband was a senior, so 18 I believe. She had a really hard time breaking free from him. Thankfully she didn’t have any kids and could split from him cleanly. He was a horrible, awful person but my mom is the strongest person I know.

I remember a girl from my psychology class during college. She was heavily pregnant but still attending classes. One time, we had a game in class where we pick a piece of paper from the glass bowl and read the question and answer it in front of the class. She got the question of 'If you can turn back time, what event you want to change from your past? ' then she answered when she got married. She told us she's adopted and her adopted parents forced her to marry. She begged them not to but they never felt pity on her. That's when she realized her adopted parents never love her. In a shaky voice and teary eyes, she told us that if she could turn back time she will escape and do everything in her power not to be married. I feel so sorry for her. That is when I realized how she was always look sad and quiet. She just got married and got pregnant right away.

My parents had a shotgun wedding, my mom was 17, they were happily married until my dad's death in 2015. I think it depends on culture. American culture is too Luke warm and you're treated like infants until you're 30 so of course a 15 year old woman from America shouldn't get married. Even though that was the norm all over the world until about 60 years ago. And I'm saying 15 year old woman because in nature there is adult and child no middle. If she gets pregnant she's biologically a woman and no longer a girl.

Because there are societies within the US it is accepted by their entire culture, even children, as a way of life and I feel we have no right to interfere. However, I do believe that there should be restrictions on why. It makes sense if it is there cultural but as in instances such as this, there is no cultural or even religious reason why a marriage makes sense. It was simply a child predator and should have been prevented. Now, is there room for error? Yes. Absolutely. And we should work hard to make sure it happens as little times as possible...or never.
@mugofbrown6234
@mugofbrown6234 3 жыл бұрын
@@volzaac Regardless of "culture" child marriage needs to be outlawed. There's being respectful to a religious belief but the need to protect children should always be paramount. There can't be one rule for children in a secular society and one rule for children in a "religious" or "culturally different" one. Child marriage just stinks of child abuse.

I remember i was helping this 15yo pregnant girl with some paper work and I asked for the baby fathers DOB... This man was in his 40s. Apparently, this young girl had just arrived from Mexico at 13/14yo. The father of her baby was her dad's boss and her parents had a written letter how they are aware and give the responsibility to the 40yo sicko. It sickened me. Parents are supposed to protect you and these parents just gave her away. I'm sure to benefit themselves in some way.

I disagree, people shouldn't be allowed to marry at the age of 18 or 19(key word "teen") because they're either in high school or just freshly out, they are barely starting their lives as adults. The earliest age someone should marry is at the age of 20 but if it where up to me people should marry at the age of 24-30 because by then the individuals are already fully formed adults with their own lives in order. Answer me this, would you marry someone who is unemployed, bad with money, immature and has no real skills? That most people at 18-23, don't marry a mess, marry the final product 24-30

Only responsible people who actually care about the child have any rights to say anything in this. Blood does not matter. Also the last word is always the person's who owns that life(does not matter the age). They know deep inside that they are uncomfortable with this/it is unnatural but children unfortunately sometimes desperately trying to please others(especially adults) around them for approval. This is why adult should know better and should show a good example instead to further protect them(as what their duty is) instead of trying to use them. It is so disappointing and disgusting. One of the worst kinds of betrayals.

A lot of these kids are forced against their will to get married to men much older than them, (mostly young girls), and forced to stay married and do things they don't want to do. Isn't that kidnapping and false imprisonment?

I think they should add a warning before they go for marriage They should add a warning "Are you sure that you want your partner with you right now to be married with you? If you want to Are you sure? Are you prepared for challenges and hard obstacles? Then if you think you are Then let's proceed to the discussion"

I mean there kindof is when the wedding happens, its not exactly a warning but more or less covering the bases making sure you understand what you're getting into, most people just don't take the whole, "in sickness and in health, for better and for worse" part that seriously
@XenosImplyer

@@XenosImplyer yes it might pressure the wedding But mostly when your taking a wedding It also means when you have married to someone that means you will take any obstacles and any problems with them and even live your life with them But the reason why their should be more of a proper warnings is the fact that They ignored sometimes the promises on marriages Its oky to pressure someone tho Atleast it's not too much I was thinking more like this warning "Listen carefully sir and mam Are you both sure that you talked about this?, Are you willing to take any obstacles with them and to be with each other for the rest of your life? If you are then let's proceed with the discussion" It might be strict and mean tho when you think of it the warning is just trying to protect you and to give you a 2nd chance to think about it more than ever

Sounds like marriage is used as legal protection for the man involved when they abuse a young girl. We should just call it what it is and not allow them to marry to avoid being called a predator.

My grandmother got married when she was 15 to a man who was 34 years old, later having my dad at age 17, his siblings probably a bit later. Neither her nor my grandfather had any say in this since, in Iran, the family goes up to another family and sets the two up, at least from my understanding of what was going on at the time. My grandma split up with him after she moved to America, I’m pretty sure. My dad told me that, since she had never dated prior to the marriage, and never really had that time to herself, she never really matured enough, which is why he distanced himself from her because they always get into fights.

I almost got married as a minor, I have been with my bf since I was 14 now I am 17. However we thought I was pregnant when I was 14, and in California when you turn 16 if you have parents consent you can get married so that was our plan. Looking back it’s insane and shouldn’t even be possible. To think I wanted something just because it’s allowed, and also the fact that it poses as a danger to many is so disturbing to me

That was the whole reason I started smoking, because it was allowed. I needed something that made me feel like an adult and something to help me self-medicate. If smoking wasn't legal, I never would have tried it.

There was an episode on Criminal Minds of a small town community that helped offenders and their families get back on their feet... We need communities like that the homeless and the child bride's/grooms so they have a place to escape to and start over, where they can all have a home to live in, a job to work at, schooling for their children and themselves, be able to learn farming, to drive, to do all of life's basics needs and survive, they need to be able to seek therapy for what they've been through and just get help to make things better for them and their families.

Want to combat this atrocity? Teach children that the point of dating is to find a spouse. Teach children that if you don't want to become a parent then don't do the things that'll make you a parent. Teach the truth about the hardships of being a single parent. Educate them in unconditional love and respect. Give them "the reasons why or why not". It works!

As a child who was groomed myself, I fully agree with the 18 and up policy. It was very difficult as a single mom. I worked menial jobs often two at once while getting a degree. And even after my degree, life still didn’t get any better. Only once I married my now husband. Society isn’t set up for minors and women. Just rich old white men with land. That’s it.

The Husband was abusive and locks her into her room so she can't escape, she took her own life. My mother often recounts on how beautiful Nina was, so young ~ not even 17. Dowry talks....
