The Chilling Unsolved Mystery of Ghasts in minecraft
The Minecraft Lore of Ghasts, arguably the nether most annoying mob, these flying marshmellows are a weird but a nice fit to the Minecraft aesthetic. But they're nothing too out of the ordinary. Or are they?

Minecraft Lore is very mysterious and this video is nothing short of that, Minecraft lore channels such as Wifies, RetroGaming now and much more cover many different topics. however noone has covered the unsolved mystery of ghasts in minecraft. Does the lore of minecraft go as deep as we think it does??

What if the humans that was in the ghast was already dead, and their lingering souls was the only thing that is powering it? A collective of souls in pain, wanting only to return to the overworld where they believe their friends would find a way to help them since it's probably around this time that studies in resurrecting the dead was still being made. However unbeknownst to these people that time has long gone and their only wish now is for their souls to be freed from the cage that is that ghast.

Ghasts have to be native to the nether. All other nether native mobs are immune to fire and so are ghasts. I believe the wording on the uneasy alliance achievement are more referring to the player. Bringing it home means bringing it to _your_ home not the ghasts. Same with the word rescue the ghast clearly doesn’t like being in the nether due to it constantly crying so taking them to the overworld would obviously be something a ghast would want. Ghasts and striders also look very similar and are probably related debunking the theory that they have to be native to the overworld as striders are very much not adapted to the overworld with their coloration and the fact that they need high temperatures to survive.

Something I forgot to clear up in the video is that when its talking about the ghasts “home” it might be talking about bringing the ghast to the players home. However, the reason I thought it was the home of the ghasts is because it says “rescue the ghast.” I should’ve cleared this up in the video that’s my bad.

my theory : since you watched retrogaming's video, you know the theory of the ancient race of builders that once ruled the over then conquered the nether before being chased to the end , my theory is that the ghasts were creatures in the over world before being captured and enslaved to work in the nether , the ghasts were reluctant to follow the cruel builders but they were surgically enhanced to protect the builders from the dangers of the nether while also being farmed for their ghast tears but after the builders went extinct the machinery wore down and the ghasts are free to attack the player ,who reminds them of their torture, they cry and scream at the player to take them home ,but once that happens they are just killed again.

This one is probably the best one so far
@twitzmixx8374
@twitzmixx8374 2 жыл бұрын
so you mean, it's us who captured ghast and enslaved them, basically our ancestors. they used ghast to protect theirselves in the nether, they did that by attaching a machinery or some sort inside the ghast so that they wouldn't attack them and instead protect them. as time passes, our ancestors got extinct, and the machinery inside ghasts worn down. they are now free from slavery. but still can't get back to the overworld as they can't do that themselves. and so as the new generation of players, basically us, entered the nether, ghast see us and reminds them all those things that were did to them. by our ancestors. that's why they're angry at players. the achievement just adds more sense to it. since ghasts can't return to overworld by themselves, they need thesame creatures who bring them there to bring them back in their home. us, humans or players. it's reason why ghast are very angry once they see a player, and cries all the time. I have another theory, basically thesame to this one, but ghast aren't ghast. ghast are thesame creatures as us. but as time passes in nether, they transformed into ghast and gain an ability to throw fireballs. that's why their named ghast, just little different from the word 'ghost'.

Something tells me they are one of the few mobs in the nether that are actually biologicaly alive. I’ve always gotten the feeling that that was the case with them. They were like a fleshy play on spirits. As for why it’s crying, from what I’ve read I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be used to attract prey.

I would also like to add that the advancement that is made by bringing a ghast to the overworld to later kill it could simply be using the words “bring back home” in reference to the player’s home rather than our pale air balloon friend’s.

There’s a baby version of a ghast and it’s translucent. I just think they’re souls of the damned. Souls are in humans and like you said, humans come from the overworld. One thing you didn't mention, the advancement description that says to bring it safely home could also refer to your home. As in bring it safely back to your home. The tears are also not completely translucent, they have a somewhat greyish/blue color. Looking at something like WD-40 oil, the tears could actually be oil. Which would fit in with them being mechanical.

I think the simplest explanation is true. They are weeping ghost maybe villagers (humans) or players in Hell. The ghast machine graphic is probably just something they came up with cuz in-game there are no indication of Ghasts being machines. Plus a floating ghost just makes better sense than a possessed machine.

I honestly think ghasts are related biologically to the strider as both of them are just cubes with big faces on them, this is supported by the fact that in early models for the strider there are plenty that look very similar to the ghast so there is clearly some relation between the two. And also as a bit of speculation on my part I think the reason for the ghost like appearance and their abundance in the soulsand valley is because they reap the trapped spirits inside of the sand as power which is what gives their tears their healing property's I also think they might have gotten their ghost like appearance to camoflauge with the lost souls in the valley.
@gardenerguy2.065
@gardenerguy2.065 Жыл бұрын
Striders and Ghasts being related makes a lot of sense. Like you said, they are both cubes with faces on them. But more importantly, they both make sad faces. Perhaps their common ancestor split between eating warped fungi and feeding off soul power. That could be why Ghast look like ghosts, but are not classified as undead mobs.

When my brothers and I were younger, we loved theorizing about the Nether. My favorite theory we all believed was that each Nether mob was a dead Overworld mob. It’s probably pretty easy to see why given we all compare the Nether to Hell. We had a few things we considered confirmed in our theory. Magma cubes were dead slimes, Gasts were dead creepers, Wither skeletons were, of course, dead skeletons, et cetera. We decided that zombie pigmen were dead villagers for whatever reason, and my personal favorite, that Blazes were other dead players.

Well I have a theory about a few of the mobs in the nether, that being they might represent the 9 circles of hell. Piglins represent greed by selfishly wanting any gold they find, blaze represent violence by trapping them in an eternal prison behind bars, ghasts represent anger, being forced to now live in a firey chaotic place. The others I still have no idea.

Here is my theory: Ghasts are native to the nether, especially soul sand valleys. Ghasts are an undead mob that is somehow related to soul sand, whether they are souls themselves or supervise the soul sand, they especially want you to go into the soul sand as you might just have the same type of soul found in soul sand. They are named ghasts because of their constant crying and their somewhat ghost resemblance.
@helipad4050

i think the ghast was a manufactured guard for the nether fortresses (made in the overworld to prepare for the nether), much like how there are guardians for the ocean monuments, iron golems for villages, and now the warden for the stronghold (kind of). all of those their goals remain, there is a structure left for them to protect, but for the ghast almost all of the fortresses are damn near destroyed, leaving them with nothing. when the builders fled back to the overworld and later the end they left the ghast behind, and with such a massive computer you'd wonder if they had a consciousness, the purpose of the massive computer was probably to help it identify threats and how to combat them. however seeing as they are in the nether and constantly around souls and soul energy it would make sense if it had obsorbed some of it allowing them to feel or think, making them sad and lonely wanting to be free from the nether.

my thought about this will make it sorta fit in with matpats Minecraft theories theor. so for the people that didnt die trying to survive in the nether decided to leave their nether base(but stay in the nether instead of trying to find more dimensions) and using the quartz that they can find in the area they make a outer shell to protect the inside of a machine that they made that can make them fly around and shoot fire balls at other people or creatures they find to be dangerous and i guess to explore the nether better, they forgot to make it where they can exit the machine, so because they couldnt exit the ghast their souls became fused with the ghast machine

My theory is: that ghasts are humans but have died in the nether and whoever dies in the nether the surrounding block over the spot to the person who haved died turns into souls sand and if you look closer you see faces that have their mouths looks similar to a ghast when their shoot a fireball and so my theory is that the ghasts are humans who died a become ghasts beacause in the nether all life there is corrupted and evil, so that's my theory

My theory is that ghast are just ghosts. They used to be humans, but when they died the were banished to hell. I think they are basically just spirits of people that went to hell because they did something bad. And they are crying because they want to go back to the over world, and they are angry that they are in hell so they take out their anger on players. Or maybe it's that when you die in nether, you go back to the over world. Maybe they are trying to show a sign, to tell us not to come to the nether?

Shoutout to Spds for the information, I built a lab to experiment on ghast, to see if a human was inside or not, turns out, i have theorized that they may be machines because of the redstone, i may and you may find microchips inside New information: this may be man made machines: theoraticly this may have a dispenser inside containing fireballs and the lubricant cam be water, why water? The skin may be watertight so any water wont evaporate, this brongs us to the ghast tear, the redstone can be up its head to a delay that when the player is spotted the redstone detects and it fires the fireball. This may contain humans inside that is possessed by a demon controlling the ghast to eliminate the player, that brings us the this days theory

I noticed the use of the word "rescue", and thought something similar- Perhaps ghasts are ghosts of some sort, the souls of the damned forced to suffer in the Nether, minecraft's "hell", for eternity, unless a player killed them.

My idea is that the nether is radioactive. So in order for the ghast to operate properly it has to funnel nether radiation into a chamber that can later be shot out. This obviously hurts cause they’re spitting fire basically so that’s why they scream. The main reason I had this idea is cause when you enter a basalt delta you hear a Geiger counter showing that there is radioactive elements in the area.

I think ghasts are like, machines operated and given sentience by soul. Similar to how the wither functions and soul being a part of mc dungeons. Maybe they didn't start out with sentience but over time maybe something happened and the ghasts began realizing who they were, what they were. Because of it, they were banished to the nether. A bunch of souls trapped in a machine as one, crying as one. I mean they are pretty loud so.. Further backing up the machine thing, the tears we see when ghasts drop them are solid material since..well you can literally hold it in your hand. Maybe these tears are just the collective tears of who knows how many souls crying, trapped in the ghast, enough to physically manifest a single tear. In fact maybe sometimes they don't drop a tear because the ones that do drop tears underwent more suffering for longer than others when you kill them

maybe at one point ghast are like a machine with a human brain built to go venture into the nether, as the times goes on, the machines became advanced the human brain inside the ghast can also create facial features, like crying and sorts. and when the time they became trapped they cant bear it. trapped in a very long time in nether, they have but regressed further, leaving one and only wish from their former selves: freedom. as for them attacking a player, means a way to communicate, telling like "im attacking you so kill me", or theyre killing you so you wont turn like them, although not a ghast, but wandering in the nether trapped inside.

This theory seems right because in the wiki it says the wither doesn't attack ghasts which is probably because they are just machines and don't have souls. Ghasts also only attack players even if it angers another mob and that mob tries to kill it. This suggests that the humans did something to them that made them hate humans. Also I think the theory that humans were inside the ghast is true because the ghast drops a tear which can't come from a machine.

Ima just comment what another KZbinr, Wifies, thought: Ghasts are machines with the souls of the Ancient Builders trapped inside for soul energy. A ghast tear is one single soul you can hold in your hand. Somehow, the soul energy from the ghast tear does the opposite of the energy from the mobs from the Wither group. For some reason, instead of taking health, the ghast tear gives health. The two recipes using ghast tears, both pink for some reason, heal. They are the regeneration potion and the end crystal. This means that wither is the opposite of regeneration instead of poison, which is what I thought. I just wanted to put what I think is true here because it’s my favorite ghast theory.

my personal theory is that the Ghast is possibly an evolution of a creature in the Nether that used to live in the lava oceans, but evolved to live in the skies due to lack of competition (my personal evidence for this is that Ghasts appear to have multiple sets of gills). adding on to this, i believe that the Ghasts are responsible for the glowstone clusters found throughout the nether, and that they're nests that they use to hold their offspring until it hatches; this leads to the possibility that Ghasts are very territorial, so the reason why they scream and shoot fireballs (the fireballs possibly being made of the same material they use to make their nests, just weaponized) at the player is so they'll back off and leave their nests alone. finally, the wails and cries they make are probably just vocalizations used for communication, they sound loud enough to be able to travel long distances from one ghast to another.

Idk if this is true or not but form what I’ve heard ghasts are floating severed heads from what was once powerful creatures that once lived on the over world but was banished to the the nether for some reason causing them to feel emotional and shoot fire balls everywhere and and destroying everything inside until herobran the first bad seed to be created in Minecraft decided to decapitate there heads from there body’s which made them feel sad and angry knowing that they could never ever go back home and they where stuck like that for the rest of there life until the sweet release of death. Those tentacles were once nerves and veins they connected their head to their bodies which explains a lot why they always cry and are always angry and emotional because they’re constantly and torment and pain. They have no hearts but they still remember home along with how they end the way they are now. There’s not that much knowing about these creatures nor why there were banished but one thing I do know it’s possible that they where once people or guardians of the overworld that where created to protect The villagers and the players. It is possible that herobrian could’ve manipulated these creature caused them to end up getting banished to create a mob a monster to terrify make the nether dangerous but all those creatures want is just to see the light to see the sun one last time and parish in peace

My take on the theory: Ghasts are Blaze Rod powered machines. Ghast's Appearance: The Ghasts are pale because, first off, there's no sun in the Nether. With no sunlight, their skin never tans, never darkens. The only dark spots are most likely vessels that carry combustion fuel, as noted by later theory parts. Their machine appearance in the Mobestiary is most likely canon, as noted. Their eyes are worthless and have no pupils, so the second best guess is that they use echolocation, which is why they're constantly crying, so they don't bump into anything during their flight. You can hear Ghasts from 80 blocks away, which means they can only see and travel within 80 blocks between echolocation, which explains their slow flight. The size and shape of Ghasts comes from not only them growing faster than they can decay, but them having no reason to hide. They're expected to be found when their original creators return, so they're big, loud, and eye-catching. The Ghast's Flight: Ghasts are one of the few flying mobs in minecraft that don't have wings, second being either a creative mode player or a Shulker. Shulkers? They stay in one place? No. They hover inside their shells, and shoot projectiles that cause a levitation effect. It's theorized by many that the Ender Cities were built by the original denizens of the Overworld, which I'll use. This levitation magic possessed by the Shulkers was likely used by the Enders as well, so if they made a flying creature without wings, they'd give it control over levitation which allows them to fly slowly through the air. Bring in the Ghast, a similarly cube-shaped creature (If not by Minecraft design, then to match the Shulkers) that floats as well. They're almost like a distant cousin of the Shulkers, basically. Fireballs: Living in a fiery world full of hot stone and fungus, the Ghasts probably have few food sources. Pigmen fight back, as well as hoglins, and endermen. Endermen fight back because a Ghast always faces and stares at its foe- a sign of intended violence to line-of-sight teleporters, the Endermen. With Wither skeletons being nothing but decaying bones, Ghasts have one option left- Blazes. Blaze rods function as furnace fuel, which means they have oxygen and carbon, as well as other unrelated chemicals. Ghasts are mechanical, and need to burn fuel to survive. Coal from Wither Skeletons is inefficient, you can't use mushroom wood as furnace fuel, nether wart is most likely not nutritious and poisonous on its own, and they can drown in lava. Not burn, drown. They hunt Blazes for sustenance. The Blazes rarely appear floating around fortresses because they're constantly hunted by Ghasts, so they need to reside in a place with cover- Fences. If Ghasts existed before Blazes, that's a different story, but most likely Blazes exist as both guardians of the strongholds and food for the Ghasts. You never see them attack a ghast or vice versa, so most likely they pay tribute to the Ghasts for safety, which is why Blaze rods are mostly dropped 1-2 at a time, and sometimes none at all, even though they have 4 intact rods swirling around them. And why does 'return to sender' instantly kill them? Ghasts don't fight each other- they're not designed to withstand a weapon they'll never face. Home: The Ghast being made by the Ancient Enders is, in my opinion, the most likely reason why it considers the Overworld as its home. If the Enders made the Ghast before they were banished to the End, they'd want to keep it safe somewhere so they can retrieve it when they return home. Them making the Ghast fireproof is most likely an accident, which they used to safely house it in the Nether. The most natural way for Ghasts to spawn is that they preproduce by splitting- When a Ghast gets twice its original size through natural resource collection, they split into two smaller Ghasts which float off in opposite directions. This gives them a natural reproduction method, since it'd be impossible for them to be built in the Nether with technology only known by the Enders. Their tentacles probably function to extract resources from Lava, the only renewable resource that isn't protected in the Nether, and can contain the same resources vital to Ghast reproduction. Their bodies being made of loosely collected minerals would also explain why they only leave behind coal (A failure to process Wither Skeleton bones) and ghast tears (I'll cover that later) rather than meat or machinery. It simply breaks down once it's destabilized. What the hell are Ghast Tears?: Simple. Their regeneration effect is their secret to reproduction- Without a system of creating new biomass, the Ghast species will go extinct since they can't gather nutrients to support their fleshy parts. The unnatural production of Ghast Tears is constant consumption and recreation of the regeneration serum, which is why ghast tears are more uncommon as a drop. They regenerate flesh faster than it can disintegrate from malnutrition. This would also put them in constant hunger pain- they sound sad because they're forced to feel their body slowly rotting away, only to be rebuilt before they can fully disintegrate and die. The death sound the Ghasts make when they die sounds more like relief than pain. A sigh of relief that their suffering is over, that someone has finally ended their misery. TLDR: Screw you, read the whole thing instead of skipping forward.

I have two theories from just this video 1: Ghast rhymes with ghost and they both have almost the same look, they both fly, and they're both white; this means that ghasts can be the mobs you've killed in the overworld sent to the nether. Another reason this might be right is because of the achievement of bringing it home and then killing it. Ghast were the mobs you've killed and are the ghosts of them, so now to put them eternally to sleep by bringing them back to the overworld and killing them, if you kill them in the nether they'll just resapwn as a ghast, but in the overworld, after you kill them as a ghast. Now what? The reason they fire fireballs at you is because they're angry at you for killing them and they're sad that they died. 2: Ghast were actually made by villagers to protect them like iron golems, but they became out of control and banished them to the nether which makes them sad. Their sadness has built up over the years of being trapped which also made them angry, so if they saw another human or player they'd try killing them.

Minecraft is home to many mysteries but the ghast is indeed a very bone chilling one. If your theory is true, if ghasts are truely husks of machinery with trapped humans inside it would make sense if they had souls right?. As a minecraft dungeon player I can in fact say that ghasts provides a soul (Without modifiers). This means that there is indeed some type of life in them. My theory is that the ghasts are supose to be killed in the overworld to release the soul of the ghast. Matpat from gametheory had a very interesting video explaining what he believes souls are and what part they play. Well if his theory is to be believed then it would make sense that the ghast was made by humans themselves. Let's say humans experiment with souls as well as machinery like for example the with and with skeletons. Well what if they tried to make some sort of defence system involving souls and machinery, in that case you would get something like the ghast. A mad and heartbroken soul trapped in a husk of a body fitted with powerful weponds and abilities such as flight and lava fire resistance, something very useful in the nether. As an end note, ghast spawns very frequently in the soulsand valleys.
